Cold shower at Bournemouth

I think Bournemouth played really well - high-energy, seem to be well coached defensively and unlike the Bournemouth teams we’ve easily beaten in the past they had a genuine attacking threat and outlet in Ouattara. That a bottom of the league team can field such quality in attack is a testament to the purchasing power of the Premier League (especially evident this season) - the likes of PSG, Bayern and even Real/Barca have it much easier in their leagues. Also Billing needs a shoutout - having a physical player like him in a #10 role, working as hard as he did, is genuinely unpleasant to face; he made Fabinho’s life very difficult.

Back to our team. Most of us didn’t think that 7:0 over United meant all of our problems were solved - that game showed how good we could be, that’s all. We still need a midfield overhaul in the summer, as even Klopp now admits. No one has a divine right to go to a team like this Bournemouth, with some genuine quality in the side and fighting for their life and brush them aside - this was a type of game that was always going to be hard-fought and close and you win this kind of game only if your own team is fine-tuned and knows exactly how to approach it. We started with a lot of confidence and could have easily been ahead if Van Dijk’s header wasn’t cleared off the line. Gradually Bournemouth started posing problems with their physicality and energy and this is where a well-functioning experienced team would have understood the challenge and pivoted to slowing the game down, focusing on control rather than trying to score immediately, trying to tire the opponent out gradually and wait for a decisive moment or a mistake. We needed Thiago, but instead in midfield we had Elliott and Bajcetic who both don’t have that skill developed yet - there was one moment in the 1st half when Bajcetic took control of the ball and made a nice run across the field before offloading the ball securely to the full-back; this was exactly what was needed, but it only happened once in the entire half. Even on the bench, Klopp had no options to bring the kind of player who could do what the game needed at the moment - Hendo for all his experience is not exactly a “slowing the game down” player and Keita and Arthur are no more than ghosts at this point. And up front, Nunez in particular is still some way away from learning how to be patient and small pitch generally made defending easier.

I think Klopp’s subs were all correct; Jota added more guile in tight spaces compared to Nunez and Firmino was the closest thing to a “Thiago” we could field in the middle of the pitch. Salah missing the penalty was obviously the key - I had a feeling that we’d miss the first penalty we get after such a long drought; this is what happens when you’re out of practice. After that, it was always a difficult task to score against 10 men defending in a tight space.

So what does it all mean? We didn’t use our game in hand, but we’re still very much in the hunt for top 4, regardless of the results today. This was not nearly as bad as the abject defeats at Brighton and Wolves, but it still shows how much we need to improve to get back to the top. Finish this season the best we can and get ready for an overhaul in the summer.

Bournemouth played well today and klopp called it right afterwards; we played Bournemouths game today.

We could analyse the game for all it's worth, but it's the same story most weeks now. We look ill prepared, uncomfortable and lazy. It's getting harder and harder to overlook the management here.

At least Mike Gordon's back though to fix everything

I think the lazy is something that we had even when we were winning ... we just had a 2/3 goal lead ... a better midfield alleviates the issues imo ...

Not willing to give up hope yet, all the teams below them win their game(s) in hand over them....they're still bottom. With 11 games to go and their next 3 games are Chelsea away, Spurs at home and Utd away....in fact their run in until the last day looks pretty brutal.....City Newcastle at home, Palace Wolves Brighton away.

The way Elliott got shrugged off like a rag doll by Billing and Solanke just tells you he will never make it here. Yeah he is still young but he is unlikely to get any bigger or stronger. Same for Fabio. We need to sell them when a good bid comes in and get some real men into the team.

Our prerequisites for the midfield spots should be players who are big and strong and have a good sense of balance. Thiago, Ox, Naby, Harvey all have a common trait; they have fuck all upper body strength.

No thanks. Massive cash injection. Sexy squad. Less
Games. Smash the league with ease

Europa league doesn’t mean fewer games - and Klopp will always try to win any competition we’re in. It’s just going to mean playing on Thursdays against crap sides. Nah, we got to get CL.

So if we’re not in Europe we play the same number if games as the teams that are? I’m confused. I may be on pint number six but still……,.

If we miss out on the CL, would we want 5th place though, money aside ?

Can't bear to see us play in Europa next season.
Not particularly but I’m a bit torn as we’d have to accept an 8th place finish because no body wants us competing in that joke conference shit. It’d be nice to see more of of youngsters competing for a first team, more chances for Doak/Carvalho…last chance saloon for Jones and Gomez.

So its do we want an 8th place finish over 5th & Europa.

Elliott and Bajcetic would not be starting for Crystal Palace.

Eliott, I maintain, is not good enough to be a CM. Bajcetic def has the ability to develop into a Liverpool CM, but he's not ready yet.

Oh and Darwin is a dreadful footballer. Shite decision making, poorly timed runs, average first touch and awful link up play. He's chaotic and entertaining, but often not in a good way. The front 3 needs to be Diogo/Diaz, Gakpo, Salah. Nunez can be a decent impact sub from the bench.

I agree until you went in on Darwin, we've seen how good he is......you can't blame him every time he's offside if the pass is delayed by 365 days, others need to take responsibility for that. Also Klopp has this weird fascination to blame him on the wing....sure he can do a job there but he's NOT a winger. Being played on the wing to accommodate Gakpo as the false 9 because Jota is way off it. You won't see consistency until Diaz is back.

We need to stop this shit of losing to teams below the Ev to try to get them relegated. Those cunts are never going down, we need to wise up to that, stop being cute and just batter these shit teams and get points on the board.

Ah mate, you should’ve sent this message to the players BEFORE the match! Do better next time.

I think you’re a bit harsh on a pair of teenagers - they are playing in our midfield on merit (and because their competition is shite); good for them and their development, but not so good for us in the short term. I think they both have the qualities to be proper LFC midfielders in the long-term; they are both learning really fast. How many teenage midfield prospects can you name in this league who had bigger impact than these two this season?

If there is an individual player who can be singled out for today’s defeat, it’s probably Van Dijk. Poor defending for the goal and missed a sitter at the other end. He did better to stop a few counters later, after he realized he fucked up for the goal, but I think his attitude was a bit too arrogant in the beginning and that cost us.

Hes still acting like hes prime vvd and this is a top class liverpool.
He spoke after man u about the right attitude and then his play is the opposite.
I think wed be better if he led with a chip on his shoulder ... that he had something to prove, along with the squad. Maybe he just cant reach that level anymore ...

I think he’s vulnerable to pace nowadays - his instincts tell him to do one thing, but the body cannot always catch up any more. Was very clearly illustrated for the goal. Adjustment to this and retraining your instincts is a process.

He just stopped and gave up for the goal - if he’d made a move to get in the centre he would have had a good chance of cutting out the pull back.

Really poor from him.

Mind you - he wasn’t alone.

What is it with us and away fixtures, early fixtures and games against teams in the bottom quarter?

It’s was mentioned that by home form we’d be Top 3 and by away form, 11th!!

That feels like attitude/mentality rather than ability or tactics.

Even our recent mini revival - shite at Palace and now Bournemouth l, win at Newcastle?

Only 3 away wins all season - Spurs, Newcastle & Villa, with defeats at Bournemouth, Wolves & Forest.

Given our games left - we’ll likely beat City, Arsenal, Spurs & Chelsea while losing to Leeds, West Ham, Leicester & Southampton.

Salah was atrocious. Are his fan bois “back in their box”? The whole front unit was diabolical for the first half with only Gakpo trying in the second half.

VVD could’ve won us the game but ended up losing it for us.

It was a lazy performance by all the experienced/expensive players. I’m sick to the back teeth of these wankers.

Just when I thought we had rounded the corner,it's back to this shit again. No anger and no intensity, two of the old buzzwords, mean we don't win the fight to get to play our football. That(playing our football )only happens when teams are not mostly concentrating on stopping us.

To me it's unthinkable that we don't get CL qualification. There is way more chance of us ending up in the Europa or (gulp) Dog and Duck than getting no European football at all.

How quickly the attitude changes on here after a defeat. Very poor yesterday but still in the hunt for top 4. I dont think away to Bournemouth is the place were you start two young midfielders and ask them to control the game. But thats were this squad is these days.

Virgil was poor for the ball but has been excellent of late. I dont know why people spend so much time going on about prime/age vs quality. Thiago Silva is 38 and still one of the better defenders in the league.
Virgil has plenty of years left in the tank.

If you really analyse it - Virgil missed a sitter and Mo missed a penalty - that’s the difference between a scrappy, possibly undeserved but simple 2-1 win against a team fighting to survive.

That doesn’t make those two, or the team shit - it means they need to own their mistakes and be better.

Can Tsctics play in midfield?

Is he another of Pep L’s suggestions?

Can he form a partnership with Inxensity?

I guess people would think I was drunk, but parts of my phone screen stopped working.
A common part of the planned obsolescence capitalist demon. The phone is also slower.

But, I have to say we really need to be better than this.
And this "they played a perfect game" bollocks don't wash with me. "Made it hard for us". Poor sods.
We have an incredibly more expensive squad, full of talent, but cannot really get at the poorest team in the PL? Nah.
We need more from the leadership. This was shit.

I know what you meant.

and I have fat fingers too.
