Ings, 22, is available on a free transfer in the summer and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the England U21 forward.
Burnley are unwilling to sell Ings, who has scored seven Premier League goals this season, in the current transfer window as they regard him as crucial to hopes of retaining their top flight status.
But Liverpool are prepared to strike a deal for Ings now and then allow him to remain at Turf Moor for remainder of the season in order to ensure they beat off competition for his signature.
Tottenham Hotspur also hold a strong interest in Ings, while Real Sociedad are also firmly in the chase for him with coach David Moyes having watched Burnley’s Boxing Day defeat at home to Liverpool.
If Ings were to leave at the end of the season Burnley would be due compensation of around £3m from any English club because he is under 24 years of age.
Foreign clubs would pay less and so Sociedad can make Ings a huge personal offer.

Liverpool want to sign Danny Ings before the transfer window closes – Tony Barrett, The Times

LFC could finalise a deal before Monday providing they allow the striker to remain on loan at Burnley [Andy Hunter]

I've wanted us to sign him for ages. Really spatially aware, tactically alert, a good eye for goal, and a sponge-like ability to absorb coaching. For fecks sake get it done.

Why not give them Borini for the rest of the season.
Or Lambard.
Or Balotelli.

We have a shocking record signing Brits. God help us if he is expected to be our striking panacea for this season. He is worth a gamble, but we shouldn't gamble our season on him alone.

He’s got talent, but this is just more of the same for me. Borini, Lambert, Aspas, etc – middle of the road strikers. Ings may be better than that, but we don’t need marginally better, we need world class. Some bloke from Burnley for 3 million quid is not world class.

Where’s the fucking ambition?

Ings is better than Lambert, Borini and contributes more than Balotelli.
7 goals in 19 games for Burnley is impressive.

I agree with Ryan about the ambition but the 3 strikers mentioned probably wont be here next season.

Talent and potential is all well and good, but we need top quality aswell.
That said, I like Ings and think he'll be a good signing.

He's a former Southampton youth player so you can see why we're interested....

Looks like good value but it has to be as well as a really ambitious signing like Dybala or Lacazette if we want to avoid this year's problems. And even then, with Origi coming in, it's not entirely clear we'd need him as further backup.

I'm hoping next season it's Sturridge plus new superstar (Lacazette?) with Origi and Ings as back up.

Would he score 7goals in 19 sub appearances here? Because that's where he'd be going if we signed him, on the bench.

Our other 3 strikers have 3 goals between them in 16 starts and 23 sub apperances.
I'd hazard a guess Ings will more than match that...

Ings and another wouldn't be bad, but given we play with one out and out striker, it's unlikely unless we flog the other three and buy a versatile attacker who can play across the frontline. As said, most would rather see us pay for out and out proven "class".

Unlike Lambert or Balotelli, he's only going to go up (probably dramatically) in value, and at the very least will provide markedly better cover than Borini, Balo, or Lambert. Yes, he's not necessarily the long term solution, but he might give us enough to creep into a CL space.

Id take him over, say, Borini for the rest of the season, but what's the actual point in signing him and then loaning him back? Isn't he quite old too?

Swap him for Lickie Ramblurt right now - straight swap.

Ings will immediately be worth twice that if we feel the need to sell in the summer & will be a better option.

Someone should the point out to Ballotelli that he'd be behind a kid signed from Burnley for buttons and that he should fuck off retry soon.

Yep!! Glad someone said it. Wept, do we need a new fucking manager!

That's true. At the start of the season I hoped we'd get a proper replacement for Suarez AND also get Ings. At least we're doing something, but we simply can't settle for this.

I think part of the Problem with signing players and faliure to land our main targets is due to having Rodgers in charge.. He is not a high profile manager and never really is going to attract high profile signings..

Until he starts to make a name for himself that is... hopefully that will become the case sooner rather than later..

No it's not, it's to do with money, location and the fact we are not guaranteed champions league football.

We haven't got any main targets because we haven't got the budget.

If Rodgers were in charge of Utd/Chelsea/City offering inflated sums and wages, he'd get his man alright.
