5.00pm Croatia v Italy

7.45pm Spain v Ireland

"Irish Patriotism - Believing Glen Whelan can outplay Modric, Iniesta and Pirlo in the space of a week" Amen.

We can't score three in a game Wiz !

A draw might be a value bet though, I said a couple of weeks ago Spain are primed to flop at this tournament and I still believe it. I wouldn't be surprised if Croatia beat them next and Italy and Croatia go through.

I think we will get a goal from a set piece and hang on for dear life for the rest of the game.
The result will not out us through but Spain out eventually

What's Molly saying about Ireland v Spain? How's her record so far?

Anyway, Italy to win 2-0 and Spain to win 24-0

Northern Ireland have softened the Spanish up for the Republic. The Spanish will be haunted by our past glories against them and may even through complete geographical ignorance believe they're playing the same team who spanked their arses in Belfast.

It could happen, it could easily happen.

Reliving past glories Count. The 1982 World Cup victory in Spain against Spain is one of my formative football watching memories. I'd say the majority of that team was catholic too. Never will we see the likes again...🙁

I remember that too Doc. !982 was my favourite footy tournament partly because of the great Brazilian team and also partly because of Northern Ireland's exploits. Gerry Armstrong's goal against Spain and the youthful zest of Norman Whiteside

Could one of the mods edit the title, in keeping with the previous Euro 2012 match-day threads please ?

Yeah it was a great tournament. I remember the what seemed like astoundingly great world cup balls which made it onto our kickabouts shortly after, and when everybody wanted to be Zico (no offence to Gerry like!)

I think we were on a ferry sailing from Rosslare Co. Wexford to France and that match was on. The ferry had a load of Spanish supporters on it who went deadly silent when Gerry Armstrong scored, while the rest of the ferry cheered.

I don't remember it though as I was a nipper at the time.

As for tonight's match, I'm hoping that there was enough Polish people in Belfast the last time the Spanish were there to confuse them as to where they're playing tonight!

It's taken a little dent recently, but I'm assured by her handler/father that it's all in preparation for the knock-out phase.

I was 9. More than the goal I remember the relentless pressure that followed, Mal Donaghy getting a red, and the Spaniards seeming like the cheatiest divers I'd ever seen- they did that rolling over and over when they were tackled. I'd never seen that before that WC.
