Dominic King from the Fail saying we're after him.

This deserves its own thread now. Not because I know the first thing about Digne, but there's a chance we might be getting a left back who can defend.

Never heard of the fella or seen him play but i'm pretty sure he can't be worse than Moreno at defending.

It's been mentioned for over a month now, the Echo reported it in June, so hopefully there's no smoke:

And finally, some potential movement in the proposed deal for Paris St-Germain left back Lucas Digne.

Meanwhile, reports in France believe the club are in 'advanced talks' with the defender, who would ideally prefer to stay in the French capital - although a lack of game-time has forced him to consider a move to Anfield.

Roma are also monitoring Digne’s situation, which could force Brendan Rodgers to put in an early bid.

And now, his agent, Mikkel Beck, has admitted Digne could leave Paris this summer.

"There are strong chances that Digne moves this summer," he said. "Lucas has several clubs interested in him. I’m working with Lucas and his family to find the best solution."

He looks very good. Left back doesn't strike me as a major priority this summer, especially if Gomez is going to be given some games there, but I guess it's worth keeping an eye out for quality.

Maxwell kept him out of the team at times. Does Zlatan have it in his contract that he and Maxwell must play together? They've been at about 4 clubs together. Ajax, Inter, Barca and now PSG.

I haven't seen too much of Digne. I don't overly rate Moreno at all so I would be happy if we could trade up.

James Pearce said yesterday there would be no more transfers in, after Benteke. So I'm more inclined to believe him than that whopper from the daily fail.
And, Gomez can defend.

Normally when one of the Liverpool journos report something, they all do, so it's a little strange King has the story but Bascombe/Barrett/Joyce don't.

It's encouraging if true though.

It could just be a rehash, it was being widely reported a month ago.

Dominic King probably still has as good a set of contacts as Pearce, and he's not as pliable as Pearce is in terms of club propaganda. Pearce is probably the most 'on-message' Echo reporter the club has ever had.

Digne is a great talent that made the wrong career move from Lille to PSG.
Has all the attributes to be a excellent left back. He's a typical signing for us with loads of potential but hasnt been able to fulfill it.

Getting him and selling Enrique would be great.
A loan with an option to buy could be the way to go.

I'd be amazed if we get Digne -

However, if we sell Enrique and Moreno for 10 mill and replace them with Gomez and Digne? EXCELLENT BUSINESS.

Do you think we should go into the season with Gomez as our second option for left back?
I see him more as a cover for both sides really and maybe a few games centrally in the league cup etc.
Ilori will get loanded out. Wisdom will probably get sold and that leaves Flanno who will be back later this year.

I don't want to see Gomez moved around too much. He needs time on the pitch and the chance to settle down quietly. That means left back, I guess, unless Rodgers wants to really show faith and give him a chance straight off alongside Skrtel. That's probably premature, but we don't want to accumulate promising young CBs and let the first choices get older and older. Managers never fancy going from that situation to one where they have to try a new pair of young CBs. Illori has already been messed about. At some stage we need to pair a young CB with a senior CB, let one coach the other and then bring in the second young CB. Otherwise we'll always be bypassing the youngsters and buying expensive ready-made replacements.

[article=http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/455269/Paris-St-Germain-warning-Liverpool-Lucas-Digne]"First, it is he who very clearly asked to leave", Blanc told L'Equipe.

"For now, he is with us, he is very professional, he trains very well and has prepared excellently. He has shown the results in friendlies.

"This is firstly a very good thing for him and possibly for us, should he stay with us this season."[/article]

We need the competition for places though. I hope we sign him and look forward to a Digne dong battle for left back next season.

Problem with that is that I can't think of one of our experienced CBs who I'd want to coach an up and comer. Kolo maybe but he's never going to be a first choice.

He's certainly not dignenerating much interest or many headlines.
