Football - Chelsea v Paris St Germain - UEFA Champions League Second Round Second Leg - Stamford Bridge, London, England - 11/3/15 PSG's Edinson Cavani looks dejected after missing a chance to score Reuters / Stefan Wermuth Livepic EDITORIAL USE ONLY.
Edinson Cavani is trying to force his way out of PSG as Liverpool continue to track his progess, according to La Parisien (via the Daily Mirror).
An anonymous source told the newspaper that Cavani is unhappy at playing out of position in the French capital and wants to move somewhere where he can continue to play down the wings.
The source said: “He’s not considering staying with PSG for another year if his role doesn’t change.
“He [understands that he] needs to play down the wing in the interests of the team, as he has for the last two years."

It's in the Echo, so it must be true 🙄

No matter how good they've been I'd always be reluctant to take a striker who is getting close to 30 and has never played in the Premiership.

The track record isn't great for those signings and the outlay can be massive unless you get a loan deal like Falcao

He could just be pretending to actually be one of the Ronaldos so he doesn't get deported.

There should be thread on unrealistic targets.

I think we had a sniff around Cavani last summer and got blown out. Not sure he's the sort of player we need though. And he'd be mega expensive.

Yeah, Cavani wont happen. Wages and fee will be massive.

His form for PSG over the last two years has been pretty poor, more pertinently. He has been shunted wide to allow Ibrahimovic to be centre stage, so there might be mitigating circumstances but he's not been particularly impressive.

Stats aside, Cavani never really looked like a top class striker in the champions league matches ive watched in the champions league.

Big wages, high fee, shite for the last while.

This sounds like it's right up our street

Yep, he's been forced out wide quite a lot.

If it was possible I'd sign him in a heartbeat tbh. He'll score goals wherever he is.
Even though he's been below par for PSG he's still got 48 goals in 89 games.
His form and performances for Napoli were fantastic.

He's one of those strikers that dont get the praise he deserves imho.
202 goals in 374 games is an impressive career so far.

I hope we don't take the other slant now and think we have to sign a big name just appease supporters. Signing someone like Cavani can be just as pointless and damaging as not broadening our horizons. The player has to right, regardless of stature.

Who is the best striker in the Dutch league?

Our last couple of signings like this worked out well.

Kuyt
Suarez

Cavani basically called us a nothing club a while back when he was commenting on the Suarez situation.

There is absolute zero chance of this happening.

And it's laughable that anyone is questioning his quality.

He has done fairly well considering PSG has been built around Ibra ... just as Ibra did very well at Barca despite everything going through Messi.

And anyone saying they wouldn't take him considering the laughing stock strikers we currently have is mad!

I want an up and comer. Not a striker past his peak who's already made it, in financial terms anyway.
I hope we're not going to start our bollocks negotiations with PSV over Depay, if we've any chance of signing him.
If we're offering Southampton 45m for Lallana and Lovren, we should be welcoming the 20m valuation of Depay with open arms.

It's Memphis Depay. He's more of a left sided forward/winger than a striker though.

No outstanding strikers this season. I think Luuk de Jong is top scorer after Depay and he was a disaster at Newcastle.

Luuk De Jong wasn't at Newcastle was he?

Siem is still there

So they had 2 De jongs?

That's just fucking greedy
They are brothers. Siem was decent enough at Ajax but I can't see Newcastle using him properly if he is ever fit enough again. They will probably just try and use him as a striker.

Worked against Swansea. Scored on his return from a collapsed lung

Surprised Newcastle didn't tell him to find another club the day after it collapsed tbh. They've got form for it (see gutierrez)
