Anyone else here think we might not actually make europe.

Villa, have a game in hand and everton are on a great run both of whom could pass us and leave us with fuck all for next year.

not playing in europe would be less embarrasing than playing in the europa cup. and also not qualifying for it would mean the american buttfuckers don't get as much money from the buyers

One way or another I think we will be in Europe. Given today's results Rafa would be (partially) excused for resting players for the UEFA Cup and we lose enough league games to drop below Everton. But then we'd go and win in Europe and get in that way.

If we finish below the blueshite I'd be fucking mortified.

It would be pretty funny though. Think about it.

If you don't laugh, you'll cry. As the old saying goes.

not finishing in europe would be a blessing in disguise but that's not what I want as it would mean we wouldn't have won the uefa cup.
our squad is pathetically thin, europa would devastate it but no way would rafa play the reserves in it which is why it would be a good thing going out of the competition early.

Until the 'spade in the ground' comes to fruition and then we can bask in our glorious future.

Yep. There's a lot to commend such an event. Except we'll probably still qualify via our league position.

All we can hope is it's the bottom of the long slope we've slid down in recent years.

We might win the Europa League and will automatically qualify as winners next season, won't we ?

Also considering we're pretty skint, it's imperative we finish as high up the table as possible. Every position is a difference of a few 100K if not millions.

It's a true dilemma now for Rafa. Huge odds say we won't catch Spurs even if we win all our games. So does he partially concede by resting key players or does he go full throttle for maximum league points - not forgetting we play 3 of the bottom 4 sides?

I'd rather he gave up as much as he could on the league and gift the title to Chelsea whilst we win the UEFA Cup.

If Torres is fit we'll make europe am sure..
No point in playing him against West Ham, regardless of if he's somehow fit. Just save him now for the European games.

I was actually out drinking tonight, carefully avoiding any watering holes showing the match; and as Malaysia is Manc land its pretty hard.

I finally sat down at our final pub at the 88th minute with the game on.

I wasnt stupid of course, I knew what would happen so I quickly excused myself to pretend to take a piss.

What I really did was to walk out of the pub out of earshot of the TV.

Didnt work,sadly.

I need some more alcohol.

I would actually like Spurs to make fourth. I don't think they will strengthen that much this summer even with CL football, and hopefully that will affect City's chances of signing really big names. Thus leaving CL qualification that little bit more open next year.

It didn't seem to affect Citeh, missing out on Europe.
That's because they spent £40 billion in the summer and strengthened.

Or if you're talking about how it didn't affect them signing top quality players, well it's the same point. They can throw money at players regardless of where they finish at the moment.

I don't reckon they were all money grabbers.

Just Tevez Adebayor, Santa, maybe you're right.

I think the 'project' they're undergoing too is/was/will be a massive bargaining chip for them to try and sign players. They're clearly on the up, the sky being the limit potentially, whereas up until this week perhaps our future was extremely bleak.

As others have said in this thread, I really, really hope Spurs get 4th and not City.

I'm prepared to see the positives in not being in Europe next year

Rafa wouldn't keep his job.

I think he would keep it. Unless he walks, he'll stay, in my opinion.

What's the point in Europe if it's not the Champions League, anyway? It feels shit and second rate.

We could always go in for the Inter-Toto Cup! 🙂
It's a trophy we haven't won! (I hope!!!)

No, we never entered the Inter-Toto Cup.

Another trophy we never won, that no longer exists, is the European Cup-Winners Cup. I went to the final at Hampden Park in Glasgow in 1966 - Liverpool v Borussia Dortmund. It pissed down all through the match which was inconvenient as Hampden Park was completely open to the elements at that time. Borussia won 2-1 and even the goal we scored should have been disallowed as the ball went out before it was crossed.

I was pretty certain we hadn't even been in the Intertoto. I wish the CWC was still around as I think the concept of the competition is interesting.
