Quite excited by this. Villa are a proper club. He'll have to win games and win them well if he hopes to survive

Me too. Quite like Villa. Good move for him. Hopefully they'll give him time and money. Top half this season would be a good start.

Posted in the other thread - They have lost 5 league games in a row and it’s not an easy start: Brighton and Crystal Palace who are both doing well, followed by games against Man City, Leicester and Liverpool.

Top half finish would be a good achievement this season. Great way to prove himself in the Premier league.
Villa are a big club, good financial backing and ambitious. Can see him attracting some decent players in the future.

Would be quite sad if he flops and will follow the Villa games now with some interest.
Anfield will be rocking on the 11th December when we play Villa.

Really didn't think he'd go in middle of season, strange decision for me...he'd have had many opportunities in summer to change clubs with the number of sackings there are nowdays.

If he doesn't make top half with Villa this season it's a failure.

Even with the “better” season they had last season, they “only” finished 11th. Given their poor start and if you consider ”Big 6” + Leicester and West Ham will finish in the front 8 spots, it’s quite a big ask to finish in top half imo. Hopefully ~12-14 + clear style of play + good game and player management.

It's a fairly logical move for him, though it'll be interesting to see if some kind of investment is on the horizon. As much as a middling Premiership Club is sort of the next stepping stone, if Stevie has any aspirations of managing us one day, they're in a bit of a shit place at the minute and he has nearly two months of working with what he's got and trying to make them punch above their weight a bit, before being handed money to spend in a notoriously difficult January market.

Origi?
Oxlade-Chamberlain?
Keita?

He can have them at a reasonable price.

I hope he does well. It will ultimately benefit us.

Obviously, though, the club is gonna go into administration and the training ground and Villa Park are gonna get hit by simultaneous asteroids now that Dreamy has predicted success.

Nonsense. The top 6-8 spots are all but decided already... Top half is a very tough ask for a team that are where they currently are.

I'd imagine if they're playing half decent football and can enjoy the last month of the season without needing to worry about the drop, all concerned will see that as a good start.

The general consensus was that Villa had spent the Grealish money pretty well, however something has clearly gone awry. Gerrard needs to get them tightened up the back and extract the best from Bailey, Ings and Buendia. If he does so he'll stand a decent chance of a top half finish. Some Villa fans I know are fearful of relegation, so fan expectations don't appear sky-high. Hopefully the owners give him enough time to stamp his influence all over the club.

Like many I thought the Rangers job was too big a step Gerrard's early career, but he won them the first title in decades, and taught me to never doubt the man who has yet to fail at anything. Villa will be decent test for him against better managers and better players, but only a fool would write him off at this stage. It's not without risk for both parties, but I suspect that Villa have done well to secure him.

From a podcast I have been listening to the main thing that has gone awry is the fact the three players who were bought with the Grealish money have spent a total of 30 minutes on the pitch together due to injuries.

Not nonsense though is it?

THe only places decided are the top 3 and Norwich. Football is a results business......Look at Howe with Bournemouth, played good stuff got relegated.

Think of it this way, do you really think they would've sacked Smith if they thought he was capable of getting them top half?

They haven't appointed Stevie for the club to linger about where they are now, they want top half.
