Rumours going around that Gerrard could return to Anfield after his contract expires in LA, thoughts on this? Likelihood?

He should never return as a player, lest he taints his legacy. These things always sound like a good plan in your head, but the reality is he was struggling with the pace when he was here and seems like he's struggled with the pace (or maybe motivation) over there.

Fantastic player - one of our absolute best - but that's how we should remember him. No swan-songs please, Stevie.

Last Christmas, he was on some bbc show with Clare boulding and was fairly emphatic with insistence that he was never going to play for Liverpool again.

Also though, he's pretty much as far from a Klopp player you Can Imagine, he had some shocking performances towards the end of Rodgers reign where his legs just weren't capable of what they once were

An all time great he may be, but the last thing we need at the moment are any distractions. We are nice and settled at the moment everyone seems onside and working hard together, why have any disturbance to that.

I'd love him back for sentiment

Sentiment, yes. CM, RB, RW, RM (or the rest), no.

The problem with Gerrard is I'm not entirely sure he believes he's at the end of his career yet. He seemed to think he had far more to offer Rodgers than the evidence suggests, has he come to terms with that yet?

Having watched him stroll about in some of the MLS games I've seen you couldn't wish to see a player less suitable to Klopps style, as you say the legs have gone.

Stamina is something you can build up. I mean 45 year olds run marathons. Speed is definitely something that gradually disappears.
But if you're referring to his groin issues, then yes. The man can barely hit the ball like he used to.

This is football though. If we thought he was done (or almost) when he was here, then after another couple of years playing and training elsewhere his body is going to be further down the line. Can he really come back and contribute in a meaningful way? And I guess, if the answer to that is no, is that because he can't or because our expectations are too high now vs the player we had?

To compare to another sport, this is not like, say, Foreman coming out of retirement and training like a demon for a world title fight. Stevie's put some hard miles on the clock and he'd have to train for that title fight week in week out against arguably stronger teams than were here when he was last.

I agree it would take time. The MLS season will end in a few weeks. That is enough time for him wto get his own little pre season before a potential January move.

How amazing would it be if he came and we won the league! He deserves it for all those years he carried the team. Even if he came on for the last five minutes or so when we were winning it would be worth it. I'm with Modo on this one!

Might be a bit patronising to a man who carried us for years to give him a token medal that he wouldn't definitely feel he doesn't deserve. I think he'd have more pride than that.

I'd have him as a coach/sub role. Imagine how much players like Ejaria, Woodburn and Wilson could learn from him?

If he wants to work at the Academy while he does his badges then fine. Those kids need someone driving them on to be more competitive, and the very least he'd do is that.

Does he have it in him to do even that though? He just doesn't strike me as cut out for coaching, even at that kind of basic level.

They don't need uplifting. They need an authoritative figure (which he is), whom they'd respect (which they would), to make them focus more and take it all more seriously. He could do that. What coaching, in a substantial sense, he could do, I've no idea, but he could go in there, get them listening to him and tell them a few home truths. They need that. At the moment some of them wander off the pitch after losing poorly and they look like it doesn't matter. Walking towards a scowling Gerrard would wake a few of them up.

All I want is Gerrard's name down as an EPL winner, whatever the minimum minutes required to play to get the medal then at least let him play that.

To see him lift that trophy would be the most amazing thing.

It's fairly hard to judge who will make a good coach anyway so it's basically just guesswork.

I mean if Souness was around playing these days people would be licking their chops at the prospect of him stepping into management.

Good point. Same could be said for Roy Keane I guess when he was playing, that didnt turn out to good.

he could wear his kit under the jacket, ready to go when time came from the trophy..

He's probably got that weird American twang people who move there for a couple of years get.

So no.
