He’s not done yet, not even close to done, but still as his LFC career is entering its final stage, perhaps we can start looking at the big picture with Mo. He has given by far the best years of his career to LFC and was key to everything good that happened during the Klopp years and is now becoming a shining bridge into Slot’s new era. Where does he stand among the players you’ve followed?

For me, purely in terms of drive, mentality and meticulous professionalism he deserves to be compared to the absolute best in any sport – Cristiano Ronaldo, Kobe Bryant, Pete Sampras – that kind of elite company. Of course he’s physically gifted with his speed and quick feet, but a huge % of his success comes from his mentality and work ethic. At every stage of his LFC career he had lots of skeptics and time and again he’s been proving them wrong: a Chelsea reject that returned and made Premier League his playground, a world-class player from a country that has not produced one before him, a winger who became a goalscorer and them reinvented his game as a playmaker, a speedster who produced his best statistical season at age 32. An ultra-ambitious character who nevertheless stayed loyal, an Egyptian who culturally found his home in Liverpool.

He is almost too good to be loved, most fans here probably have a different favourite player from the same era, but then you could say that ultimately this has been the era of Mo. He is not done, but we can start appreciating the greatness before us.
