TORRES DE FORCE: The striker is now on United's wishlist

SIR ALEX FERGUSON is planning an audacious raid on Liverpool for Kop striking hero Fernando Torres.

Armed with the £80 million windfall from Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid, the Manchester United boss is determined to make his own impact in a transfer market which is becoming bloated with money from the big clubs.

Liverpool hitman Torres is the shock target, as Sir Alex knows that a bid of around £40m would have to be seriously considered by United’s title rivals who have severe cash problems.

If Ferguson could pull off the coup, it would be a slap in the face for Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who was involved in a war of words with the Scot during the second half of the season.

Liverpool, who paid £20m to bring Torres from Atletico Madrid, would fight tooth and nail to hang on to the Spaniard but a British transfer record offer would give the Anfield boardroom serious food for thought.

In the meantime, Ferguson will pursue what could turn out to be more realistic targets – Lyon’s French striker Karim Benzema, Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o, Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero, Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery and Valencia’s David Silva.

A £20m deal to take Wigan’s wide right sided player Antonio Valencia to Old Trafford will be finalised in the next few days.

United believe they will lose Carlos Tevez to neighbours Manchester City but are more confident of fighting off the interest in unsettled defender Nemanja Vidic, who is being monitored by Barcelona and AC Milan.

He's there's if they fund the new stadium 😉

Actually fuck it, a stadium funded with their dirty money, I'd rather not.

Jog on, Slur.

Leaving aside all the hatred, Slur jibes, and press hysteria, Torres would be absolutely perfect in United's side. He's the exact sort of player they need.

Didn't Ferguson say he didn't want him when he was at Atletico cos he didn't think he'd score enoguh goals?

Wanker.

Ha ha... If we sold Torres to Utd, I think WW3 might erupt. Benitez would leave, thats for sure.

hahahaha.

What paper's this from? I'm guessing the Mail or the Express? They generally print the worst articles, beating the redtops at producing completely fictitious stories.

He would indeed be perfect for them and Ferguson reportedly dithered over him for a long time.

I f'cking love it. 8)

I distinctly remembered it was torres rather than fergie that passed on manu as he felt he wasn't ready for the challenge of playing abroad yet. fergie even sent torres a manu shirt with 'torres' on the back.

I wouldn't be surprised if you and Ryan were both right. Ferguson was sniffing around Nando for a very long time. It could quite easily have been Ferguson who said "no" on one occasion and Nando who did so on another.

Say what you want about Fergie, but he pulls out the stops to get a player. He often does little things like that, along with bigger gestures, like seeing RVN in hospital with no intentions of buying him for at least a year.

I hope Rafa does similar, or if he doesnt, that he takes a few lessons from his counterpart.

Fernando torres will join Manchester united on the 1st july for 40 million and will wear the number seven shirt previously weared by ronaldo

some twat has written than on wikipedia.

Sports journalism is at all time low. How anyone gives any credence to what these fuckers write anymore is beyond me.

Yeah, he sometimes taps players up. However, dont forget we are the only club (unless another has passed under my radar) to have ever been found guilty of tapping a player up. We do it too.

What I'm talking about is the shirt being sent, the hospital visit, a video clip of Utd highlights winning trophies again & again being sent. They're legal, & they get the top players buying into his view of the club & the ethos he enscribes there when they get there too.

We may hate him, but he's fucking good at what he does.

Is this by the same John Richardson who was born in Merseyside and has been covering Liverpool for decades? Bizarre even by hacks' standards.

Here's a scarier thought...

What if there's a slight hint of truth to it, no matter how ridiculous ?

I dare not think...
