Yeah, I think its all gone wrong for Rafa in the last two seasons.
Last season was a disaster with Liverpool and he clearly couldn't get the support he needed from anywhere - players, board or even the fans. Then he went and followed one of the best managers in football to an absolutely no win situation; difficult to see him coming close to emulating last season for Inter so he's on a hiding to nothing. What's worse that "manager" has gone and taken Rafa's dream role at Real. Current signs are that he's going to bring them success as well. Add the fact that Rafa seems to genuinely dislike the "special one" and it's not been a good two years for him.

true, true. the sobering thought is that we've got rid of a 50 year old class act who's had a tough couple of years but will almost certainly come again, in favour of a 63 year old fucking no-mark. is there an argument that managers are just as susceptible to difficult circumstances as players, and maybe clubs should be supportive of them as they are to out of form players?

good post peter. as usual.

You cannot bench a manager, which is a bit of a problem.
Maybe the future of football is having a squad of managers who you rotate every few months depending on who's on form. Reserve Managers could be stood on the touchline, wearing high-vis bibs, practising their scowls, disapproving looks and their hand gestures.
