Is a £1 coin better than two 50p pieces ?

Well, is it ?

Is it better to have one superstar or two very good players ?

That was Rafa's policy and look where it got us in the end..

The spine of a succesfull team needs to carry Top Quality/World Class players in order to be succesful and you need that 'Superstar' to take you that step further... imho

History proves that.. Liverpool in the late 80's with John Barnes..
Utd/ England (arguably) with Beckham
Utd/ Real with Ronaldo
Barca with Messi
Liverpool with Gerrard (in his prime)
Chelsea with Drogba

Torres in his prime for Liverpool everyday of the week... He was immense.. everything he touched back then turned to gold...

Now ??? I'd take Suarez & Carroll
That's a terrible example really cause Carroll was awful.
But if you said Suarez or Sturridge Coutinho for instance I'd take the latter.

The question is too general so the answer can only be "depends".

Depends on the players in question, the squad, the situation of the club and so forth and so forth.

Or.... Goldies are for keeping in a tin for a special occasion...

Silver is for change for the bus.

Currently we'd be better off with one superstar in attack as opposed to two very good attackers. However would we be better off with one very good attacker and one very good goalkeeper/defender/midfielder? Thats a harder question.

It's more like having a pound coin, and swapping it for two other coins without knowing their currency or denomination beforehand.

You need both to win the league. Manure have very good players, but it's rvp that's gotten them out of trouble from time to time.

What about our situation then Keni ?

If this is about Suarez then again it would depend on how we strengthen but yeah, providing the players are the right players in the right positions the team overall could benefit.

The problem as always is making sure that they are the right players - easier said than done.

The issue we have is we don't have the cash or are in a position to splurge on players the calibre of Suarez. The squad needs improving in too many areas first. Once that's in place, only then could we be in a position to spend the money on one world class player per season.

I don't want to lose Suarez but can see the argument for using the cash we get for him to strengthen the squad first.

Yeah but we don't have enough match winners in the team as it is. I'd rather suarez stay than use the money to strengthen the squad. But he's going anyway so lets just hope the money is spent wisely. But i'd rather buy a match winner than 2 good players.

Beckham? While a very, very good player, he was never the most imprtant player in any Man United team he was in. He definitely doesn't belong in the list with the other when it comes to importance to the club.

One player that scores 30 goals or 2 that get 15 each. Not putting all your eggs in one basket is a good idea.

4 Coutinhos for 1 Andy Carroll, we could get 2 new Luis Suarez' with the funds from selling the old one. Or we could end up with 2 Downings. Fuck me, imagine 2 of them fuckers! We just gotta hope it's spent wisely, and I do have faith that we will. We're gonna be a force to be reckoned with next season.............in the Under 21s! Think we've got quite a few options across the front 3 now,Sturridge, Borini, the new lad from Celta, Raheem, Coutts, I refuse to put Downing as an option coz he's a useless twat, much rather Ibe get a shirt before him. I'd like us to spend the majority of the funds on a beast of a Midfielder.

If it's 50p that have potential to become 1 pound (or 80p) in the next few years, definitely choose that. If it's 2 players who are 50p at their peak, choose the superstar.

Its a bit like RVP (2011/13: 30 goals 14 assists) - Carzola, Giroud, Podolski (2012/13: 34 goals 27 assists in total). And who's to say RVP wouldn't have got injured etc.

Like so many mentioned, it really depends on how the money is re-invested into the team.

Doesn't all 3 players add up to more than how much they got for rvp?
