I don’t know how much influence he had over target selection in the summer, however I think what we can all agree on is the balance within the squad is not perfect….any manager would have that same situation.
What he can absolutely be held to account on is how he uses those players to give the most balance from those players available, with a plan on how we can impose ourselves on the opposition.
In my opinion what we’re lacking most is stuff that cannot be taught, tenacity in 50/50’s, desire to work hard doing both aspects of any role, including the defensive hard yards. Strong competitive players who thrive on the contest, not just play for the show casing.
Gakpo drives me batshit, he’s not aggressive enough in the press, 50/50’s and generally getting in players faces and shutting down space. He played with more of those attributes last season up until his injury and was having the best spell at the club.
Mo, to be starting….has to do the dirty work too…be Dirk Kuyt and graft, you don’t win titles with passengers.
Isak, far far too soon to evaluate but by how he played at Newcastle was another forward who likes to stroll and then switch on only when there’s a goal to be had.
This is the antipathy of what made us so successful under Klopp.
That intensity and desire needs to improve significantly, but I’m not sure some of these lads are designed that way.

Which teams are spending the most time winning, losing, or drawing in the Premier League in 2025-26? We look at the numbers.
Only seven Premier League teams have been ahead for a lower percentage of their games than Arne Slot’s side (24.1% – 269 mins, 35 secs). Even rivals Everton have been ahead for longer (27.7% – 303 mins, 37 secs).
That might not be a surprise to many given Liverpool spent the early weeks of the season scoring late winners, but it’s surely something they will want to address, especially after leading the rankings last season for time spent ahead (45.6%) on their way to winning the Premier League title.
If you thought Liverpool’s unfamiliarity with leading this season was notable, then the fact they have been behind for a whopping 36.9% of their game time (413 mins, 4 secs) may raise those eyebrows higher still, as should the additional note that only West Ham (47%) and Wolves (57.8%) have been losing for a greater percentage of their matches.
That means even 17th-placed Burnley (36.4%) and 19th-placed Nottingham Forest (32%) have had less time in losing positions than the Reds across their first 11 games.
It also means Liverpool have been behind for 143 minutes and 29 seconds longer than they’ve been winning. That surely cannot last with the quality they have and a slightly kinder set of fixtures on the horizon, but it shows quite a drop-off for a team who were only behind for 615 minutes and one second in the whole of last season, a total they’re already three quarters of the way to just 11 games into this season.

I saw some suggestions of Gerrard to be appointed on an interim basis, I dont know of another more miserable person to be in charge of the team at this time.
