Hahaha. Nice to see something original in footy.

They try it again though & in pretty sure they'll come a cropper & end up massively outnumbered at the back.

Another interesting ploy from German football

[article=http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/must-watch-fourth-division-german-team-baffle-opposition-with-remarkable-free-kick-routine-8841735.html]German fourth division side Rot-Weiss Essen perfectly executing the trick against Wattenscheid 09 in a league match earlier this month. Essen were 2-1 down at the time but equalised in the 80-minute with this precise routine to baffle the Wattenscheid wall, and, most importantly, the goalkeeper.[/article]

far better than our short corner tricks!

Hmm. I once saw a goal disallowed (admittedly in an amateur game) for ungentlemanly conduct when the attacker shouted "mine" as a cross came into the box and a couple of defenders left it, thinking a teammate of theirs had been the one to shout. If the ref was right on that occasion, this goal shouldn't have stood IMO.

I thought calling "my ball" or "mine" is an actual defined offence, at any age we were always told to just shout our name. These gimmicky tactics are exactly the sort of thing kids come up with at 11 or 12 years old.

Nah, this was fine. Quick free kicks are allowed so this should be

That's an old rule and applies all over the pitch. If you shout anything bar your name and are within I think its 5 yards of the ball its a free against you.

So let me state categorically that this is not a rule that applies in Football. It's a myth perpetrated by shit, old referees, who somehow deemed it unfair or something.

I can guarantee you it is not a rule.

Yep, I've experienced that. Baffling. Ref's giving a free because you said 'my ball' or 'leave it'. Did it go down to the ref's discretion to award a free as its deemed ungentlemanly conduct or something? I was once booked for apparently repeating the words 'LEAVE IT' on the pitch. I had been saying DAVID but old fucker couldn't hear me.

I also got booked for asking the ref what's left? He said 'nev er mind'. I asked again and he booked me. Weird. Does he have to tell me?

Maybe it was just your shit, tinker, southerner accent?

That's what the ref said in the game in which I saw it happen. It was me who hit the fecking cross ball BTW. I was overlapping from right back and hit it first time on the run. Bastard ref.

The only 100% hard & fast rule in football is that if DB says something (anything) then Ryan will immediately disagree & vice versa. Failure to follow this sequence will lead to instant dismissal, though that punishment is purely hypothetical as the rule has never and, seemingly, will never be broken.

In this instance, as with every other, I'm right and he's wrong.

That should clear it up for you.

Well that's bending the truth now isn't it?

If you say or do anything to distract an opposing player to gain an advantage it is deemed unsporting behaviour an indirect free kick can be awarded.
Examples of such are shouting things like 'Leave it" or "My ball' to confuse the opposition who are challenging for the ball.

It's perfectly fine to say this to a teammate if the opposition are not challenging for the ball. An example of this would be if the ball was about to go over a defenders head for a goal kick who was unaware if he had an attacker behind him. In this case you can shout 'leave it' as you are communicating with a team mate and not trying to gain an advantage over an opponent in an unsporting manner.

Dreamy, I am telling you that it is categorically not a foul. There are no stipulations, no nuances around the wording, or the fucking distance (where in the name of Christ did you get 5 yards from by the way?), no variations. It is just not a foul.

Don't argue with me. Just deal with it.

The 5 yard thing was what I was told playing the Eircom league by the referee at the time, as I argued it wasn't a rule in a game and he took the time to explain the point I made above, to me after the game.

He said it falls under unsporting behaviour, which a free kick can be given for. So while there may not be a technical rule that states 'You must say your name when going for the ball', the understanding of putting your name on it instead of a generic 'My ball' or 'leave it' call is well known amongst most players and referees.

Bottom line is if the ref here's you say something while going for the ball and believes it to be of an unsporting nature he is allowed to give an indirect free kick against you.
