Klopp's Reaction

We were very lucky to not be down 5-0 at half time of that game.
We were played off the park and our 'big names' were mostly invisible, or busy jogging around to ensure they got enough steps in their daily fitness routines.

My question is what kind of reaction can we expect from Klopp in his line up against Wolves?
What will make you happy?
What will concern you?

For me, I will be happy to see Gomez & Tsimi as our FBs. Our starting FBs need to be dropped.
Will be happy to see Matip starting again alongside VvD

In Midfield - Thiago has to start. He may be the key to our season, which says how shaky the ground we stand on as what are the odds he stays healthy?

Front 3 - I'll be disappointed if our front 3 isn't the front 3 that finished the game tonight. Salah - despite the 20+ chances he's created - is just not deserving to start currently. Bobby should only be a bench option going forward.

There won't be one, we'll play a high line and repeatedly get caught, while Trent will get the freedom to stroll around the pitch like some big time Charlie lazy cunt. Meanwhile Klopp will grin on the sidelines and make ineffectual changes on 70.

If you think Gomez deserves to start in any position in a red shirt the next match after that absolute shitshow of a half, you need help.

He was absolutely abysmal under any metric you’d care to measure.

He had a terrible half, after being imo, one of our better - if not best (not saying much) - defender since the season's start.
If you think TAA deserves to be starting in any position in a red shirt the next match after the absolute shit show of a start to a season, you need help.
So who's starting for him? Milner? You need help. Ramsay? Ok, I can go with this - but Gomez is our only opton currently.

But you can say you want TAA to start and that will make you happy ...

Absolutely this.

Klopp: "Until Thiago entered the pitch, I cannot remember one counter-pressing situation. Everything was obvious. Why it happened, I cannot answer now. It's a really tough one to take, but I have to take it."

I've been working so missed the game, glad I didn't rush home for this like I was planning. I would just start Bajcetic cos he can't be worse but I also didn't see who was shit I just know we lost 4-1

Drop Salah and Trent.
I agree with what you say, but here's the thing. Salah's problem is in part his form, but the larger part of it is something I have been saying for sometime now.
Defenders have sussed him out, The know as long as he is given little space (sick a man on him) and stop him from getting the curler away from the edge of the box that 70%-80% of his game gone

Play that kid Mbaya who played in the pre season tour, he might make a few mistakes, but at least we won't see him strolling around after getting skinned for the umpteenth time.

Brilliant. After 5 yrs at long last someone has worked out how to stop Salah.

We can't drop Trent, we have no credible alternative.

I agree. Kinda. I know Gomez won’t go forward as well as Trent can, but he can defend better. Bearing in mind Trent isn’t great at either right now, I’d bang Gomez at RB. It stops teams constantly targeting Trent too as they know his defensive stuff needs work.

This squad is not good enough.

Whether that's mentally, physically, emotionally, mixture of all 3 I don't fucking know.

These players aren't going to be competing for anything this season other than an outside shot of top 4.

Maybe the exertion of last season has taken it out of them. Dunno.
This squad with Klopp as manager can still get it right and hit top four. A trophy? I doubt it.

Everyone says we need to drop Trent but we don't have appropriate cover.

Can someone draw up a formation that doesn't involve a right back? Trent, Gomez, and Milner all need some time to sit with their thoughts.

We need to go to basics
1. @Brizzle takes back matchday threads
2. @Dreambeliever cannot post, better he joins under another name, this might hoodwink the jinxy demons
3. Admit we messed up not getting Adama Traore

Honestly, I am serious about the 1st two points but we way too open and the players are not fast enough to close any one down on the counter. As Klopp said, its time the team reinvented itself.
Go compact, avoid the high line, and may be look at a 442 or a 4-5-1 formation

Already got a trophy and there’s still retaining the milk cup and the FA cup.

Looks like the PL and CL would be harder to win though but we have time.

It’s just the first CL game so there’s a small chance we salvage something to get through the group stages with the injured crew coming back.

Also, slim chance but the top team are dropping points in the PL.

The counter being almost all our progressive, attacking play in the first half stemmed from Trent and Elliot feeding to Diaz

I'd drop Trent, Milner, Salah. And state clearly in the press conference they are not inured. I don't even know how we'd line up without them but honestly you can't keep rewarding that level of performance and expect the rest of the team to keep trying.

We are shocking at the minute but make no mistake that's been coming.

Yer all a bunch of Fannies. We’ll come good when our key players are fit Thiago and Matip have been big loses.

Its not been good enough but the world isn’t falling in either.

We’ll still go close if not win the CL. League was decided the minute Haaland signed, anyone who didn’t see that was bonkers.

Alright then. Put your money where your mouth is. Show us your betting slip.

Admire your optimism however my Optimism Counter is dropping like a stone, 70% before the season began, 50% after our PL start and plummeting to 25% after this game. Before this match it looked rectifiable but a good team (and that is all that Napoli are) has made the issues look far worse than they have appeared in the PL.

I liked Klopps reaction and think he'll reinvent us for the Wolves game. Not sure what he'll cook up but I think this Napoli game will be the one that changes our approach and gets us going again.
We wont see a shitshow like that were the team doesnt seem to function.

I'd play our best team available but with Klopps change of approach. Whether thats a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-2-2, maybe the last one to get Salah more central and more involved.
We're a completely different team with Thiago starting.

Alisson
Trent Matip Virgil Robbo
Elliott Fabinho Thiago
Salah Firmino Diaz

Klopp is one of the best managers in the World. He'll get it right once again but I think this season will be a transition in terms of going from the last successful team we had to the next. That is pretty clear at this point.
Where we end up in the table or cups comps will depend on how Klopp reinvents us.
No doubt it will be very interesting to see and follow during the next months.

The World cup break will actually be good for our team.

Fuck's sake - he's been gone for months & when he comes back he talks positive sense. Stevie's wardrobe clearly has a beneficial impact - I'm thinking of spending 6 months in there myself.

It’d be Wengeresque not to become more pragmatic now. If the lack of pressing is destroying the high line and we can’t improve the pressing then the high line has to go for now.

I don't want to see JoGo play for us while Matip is fit.

I never rated him and last night he's been found out (again).

He doesn't seem to know how to play in our high line system.
