Lallana style

When he plays like that, he's one of my favorite players at LFC to watch. Intelligent, fearless, tireless, full of invention. Even last season he tended to overplay and slow the game down; now he doesn't waste a touch. It's incredible how a player's playing style can change so quickly, even for somebody who is already in his prime years – I guess it's a testament to what can be done with good coaching when the player fully buys into the coach's ideas.

Lallana was one of the first LFC players to fully adapt to Klopp's style and he's become quite a key player and LFC's main hub of creativity other than Coutinho. I've always loved to watch teams with not one but two playmakers – like Real Madrid with Figo and Zidane in their prime or Milan with Rui Costa and Kaka. When you can squeeze two playmakers into the team, it becomes much harder for the defensively-minded opposition to stifle your creative game than when you have just one. That's why we struggled against Man U until Lallana came on.

Other than the 2 assists, I really love that floated pass for Mane at 0:47 – even though it was cut off by defender's desperate lunge, it was the absolutely the most dangerous (and technically the hardest) pass to play in this situation. It also reminded me of Firmino's floaty assist for Mane in the previous game. Klopp is being pigeonholed as "heavy-metal football" coach, everybody talks about pressing and work-rate – which is all good and true, but when these players have the ball, they are starting to play like fucking Barcelona, ruthless and stylish at the same time.

Perhaps klopp has just told him to play his game?

Under Rodgers possession was key, so he probably had the mentality to not waste possession. Now he has a coach who will let him do all the flicks and turns he wants

It's a fucking joy to see someone play with that freedom

Surprised the fuck out of me, never imagined him playing in a midfield role. Long may it continue.

Me to Modo - I always thought he was too weak for that (and to be honest it was his fuck up that let to the first Arsenal goal in the first game this season) - but he has improved by many degrees !!!

Yeah, wasn't a great start.
I used to think that he needed to win us more games, but I'm fine with him as is.

I just wasn't convinced Lallana was going to become a proper Liverpool player. Another talented player who couldn't produce when he pulled on the red shirt. This season has proved me wrong, and I'm very happy to be so. He has been excellent, and consistently excellent.

Always loved that he had amazing ball control and two great feet, but I thought he had tunnel vision and simply couldn't see what was going on around him, thus hogging the ball and slowing everything down, spinning around into blind alleys etc.
He's proven this season that this was not the case. Whatever Klopp and his team have done is simply amazing.

He was always good but he's superb under Klopp. Makes me wonder if other players we've written off in the past would be flourishing here right now.

Coutinho's even better. So, half-right.

???

It's a not a case of Coutinho vs Lallana. You can obviously like both players. I think it was Modo who would constantly put down Lallana in an effort to elevate Coutinho but I don't think anyone else thought or posted that way or vise versa.

Apologies if I misinterpreted your post but that logic annoys me.

P.S. I would like to ad that I'm delighted for Lallana. Never understood the abuse he got from certain sections on here. It was borderline pathetic at times.
He is benefiting from playing in a deeper role as he has space to run into. Similar to his time at Southampton. Long may it continue.

Because people were saying that he was better than Coutinho.

He's been very impressive, I hope he keeps this level up for the rest of his Liverpool career, because, despite the usual "I told you so" posts, he hasn't before.

The arrival of Mane to add more pace and goal threat in that wide right attacking role was a masterstroke and one most people advocated. And it was also obvious that Lallana's place in that position would be the one under most threat, given his lack of pace is a problem in that role. And he doesn't score enough.

Quite a few people (including me) thought Lallana's could drop back a little, and play in a more traditional midfield role - it's been mooted a few times even before Mane's arrival - but it seemed more of an option than anything long-term; I did think Klopp would want a little more height and physicality in the midfield.

But he has performed so well that if he keeps it up, he's going to be one of the most important players in the side as we progress this season.

He's even added a goal or two.

Great to see.

I think we have more possession this season compared to Rogers final season. The biggest plus is that players are no longer shooting on sight as much as before, and we are able to create chances in and around the opposition box. Lallana is a big part of this improvement and am happy to take back my preseason vote (i think it was the one with the expensive marathon running man or something along those lines.)

Lallana, Firmino and Coutinho have all improved. Massively.

Last season, there were plenty of matches where we would dominate matches and get behind teams, only to waste the opportunities with a bad pass or a bad pass selection.

I think it's mainly down to Klopp.

Can't be arsed looking up the old thread, but it's in there...somewhere.
I've been Coutinhos staunchest critic and even I'm not that thick.

I always said Lallana was more consistent so I'd pick him first.

Ability wise, on form, it's not a discussion however

Wouldn't worry about it mate. Only one of them will still be here come the summer...

That's the spirit!

Everyone seems very resigned to this already. Yeah, if he keeps up this level - or keeps improving - then he'll go sooner rather than later, but it might not be as soon as this summer.

And in any case, it wouldn't be as damaging as the loss of Suarez, or Gerrard - when he was close a few times - he's good, but he's not team-destroyingly good.

Was gonna post a thread about this little dilemma. I know there was the odd link in his early days, although nothing tangible, but he's come on well since then in terms of ability, and more importantly for me, consistency.
When he's playing at a solid 8/10 he's probably not quite Madrid or Barca level. But at his best, they'll be in for him and hard and he will go.
So what would we prefer? A half season or so more of this level of ability (or a little better perhaps) until he leaves, or years more or him not quite at his best, but more than good enough to play a solid role for us?

And yep, he's no Gerrard or Suarez. Very few are mind you.

Is this a serious question? Every single player, playing at their very best. Obviously.

Real and Barca can't buy everyone, and sometimes - as Gerrard proved - players can't be bought at all. If we're winning trophies and challenging every season, we need players at the very top of their ability, and we won't struggle to replace them should they leave.

Look guys, we managed to get another season out of Suarez when he was dead set on leaving, I've no doubt we could do so with Coutinho if needs be. And if you must sell, then selling to one of the richest clubs in world football is probably the way to go.

Can you think of anyone who was saying how brilliant he was even what he was at Southampton?
