I love the little motherfucker. I cant lie. I love heart and he has it in spades.
He's been in the top three in our player of the season thing the last three seasons, he was Gerrard and Johnsons player of the year last year, he's getting some love out there from other fans and he's establishing himself as a vital part of our team.
All this from one of the most hated players in our history a few years ago.
Symptomatic probably of the fact we sold Xabi and at 19 he was expected to replace him.
Every year he has got better and at 24 JUST TWENTY FOUR!!! He's playing now at a really high and consistent level.

@24 - Alonso was making his debut for us.

@24 - Roy Keane had only played ONE season at United.

@24 - Claude Makalele was at Marseille, then he went to Vigo before going to Madrid at 27.

@24 - Frank Lampard played his FIRST season at Chelsea

@24 - Nigel De Jong was at hamburg

@24 - Scott Parker was at Charlton

@24 - Zidane hadnt left Marseille

@24 - Redondo hadnt left Tenerife

Etc etc.
He's at the age NOW where you would think about buying him and hes played 179 games for us.

Good on yer Wonderman.
You perfected it.
PS-Watch this clip, it makes a MOCKERY of those who suggest he cant pass. If this was an Alonso clip youd ALL be fapping.

Lucas Leiva - Liverpool Tribute 2011 HD

Good call, but not surprising Lucas is one of my favourite players atm.

BTW Alonso was 22... 😉

I used to hate Lucas.

Now I quite like him. Well done to the lad, keep it up, and as always there's room for improvement.

Well said. He's a sound player and never deserved the horrible abuse he got - not cos he was great back then, but cos he was a young lad trying his best for LFC.

Yup sorry I though Alonso signed in 2005 (I was thinking Istanbul) but of course he signed in 2004/5
He was 23.

Yuck I'm the age now that Alonso was when he signed for us. And Torres too, I think.

I'm exactly the same age as Karim Benzema.

FML as the kids say.

FMLMF!!!

Do ya know what sickens me hole. Lucas is having a great game...he makes one mistake (possibly the first one in about 60 mins).....and gobshites start shouting what a crap player he is.

He'll always be a scapegoat for people like this, no matter how well he does.

Personally i think hes doing very well lately, one of my first names on the teamsheet. But ultimately whether hes good enough to take us to the level we need to be at is still up for debate in my opinion.
I mentioned that yesterday mate. Its pretty shameful.
He's a belting player I reckon and still improving.

The weird thing is that he always has a man of the match type performance against the Chelsea's and Man Utd's (obviously because those teams get a lot of the ball and he has a lot of work to do) and then he is seen a lot less against say Norwich or Blackburn and everyone gets on his case. His job as a shield is always going to be more under the microscope against the big teams as he is vital to our success in those games whereas against the lesser teams he has less to do but gets it in the neck when the players in front of him dont do their job.

Ive had a pop at him in the past but anyone who doesnt think he is a good player doing a good job in nearly every single game now is either blind or ridiculously biased.

OMG, I've logged into Rawk....

You're banned !

Well, you started it.....

Tacklers Team Tackles Success rate 2011
Lucas Leiva Liverpool 56 75%
Faurlin QPR 52 75%
Parker Tottenham 47 70%
Cabaye Newcastle 43 65%
Mulumbu WBA 40 62%

What I do admire is that he's toughed it out despite copping a lot of criticism.

At his age, he would still have many suitors from various leagues in Europe ... for most this would be an easy way out.

But he's stuck around and he's improving and playing with more responsibility.

Let's not forget he came here as a young attacking midfielder and was asked to play a completely different role from the onset. He's had to reinvent his whole game to make the progress that he has ....

Well said Oncy. He's not stopped improving over the past two Seasons.

Looks better by the game and even looked like a Brazilian TWICE against the Chavs.

lucas yellowed
I saw something recently about how if a teams DM gets a yellow in the first half hour of a game, 70% of the time they lose the game.

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

WTF just happened to my post?! Lucas is a cunt!!

It's odd, though, given his attributes that he started off as an attacking midfielder. He's not that good at anything related to attacking really.

His best attributes really are his positioning and anticipation, rather than skill and flair. And he is quite slow.

Yeah once out on the right touch-line ? That was superb but the commentators didn't even mention it, had it been Rooney or Aquero, Silva etc. then they'd have creamed themselves.

Someone made a gif of it on RAWK.

He's fucking unstoppable isn't he?

We've seen the back of Alonso, Mascher, Brendan, and Meireless and yet Lucas is still here, doing what he does, and doing it well.
