Whats the deal with all the hype about Balotelli.
I mean hes obviously a young player with Talent but the press seem to be talking him up like hes messi and ronaldo in one.
Now ive only seen him play a few times and hes never really done anything of note when I have other than be a bit shit, a bit petulant and get subbed or sent off. Hes scored some goals of course (roughly one in three) and played at big clubs, and Jose Mourinho said he WILL be the best player in the world one day. Buuuuut what exactly am I missing?
Is he as good as they are making out? Do i just keep catching him on a bad day?
On Radio 5 the other day (pre England game) they were saying 'He will either get a hat trick or get sent off' and i was thinking 'He'll probably do what he always does when I watch him' which is very little of any note.
Hes scored 2 goals in 12 games for Italy and yet the press will be expecting him to get a hat trick again against Germany.

There was VERY similar hype to this over Rooney as a teenager and although i sill think Rooney is massively overrated and nowhere near the upper echelon of players you can see from his endeavor and effort why he commands positive column inches, even on a shit day Rooney works hard. What does Mario do?
If he played at Fulham I dont think anyone would notice him.
Anyone?
 
Listen i know hes a character and i understand the press loving him for that. Im talking about the player. Not the boy.
 
Hes got the raw materials to be a great striker. Pace, power, good technique , an innate self confidence.

If he want such a clown he would be great
 
I'm with Oncey, what's the deal. he's shown some promise, but attitude is everything, and he's nowhere near the World's best. While we're on the subject, is Gareth bale similarly over hyped.
 
I can see it to be honest.

I can see all the other things you've pointed out as well mind, so what we'll end up with is still a question.

The way he i.e. kept Terry at bay physically before trying an audacious over-head kick is just one aspect of his game. He is such a strong lad with great technique too. His first touch at times is out of this world and he's got the shooting power of Zico by the looks of it. Very fast too.

I like him a lot. He's his own worst enemy mind.

Balotelli skill on display, how did he keep that ball in play?
 
He has the potential to be a smashing player - cannon of a shot, very strong despite his slender build, extremely skillful, decent dribbler and is pacier than most defenders. His own worst enemy? Himself ... If, as most of us who like him say, he can stay sane on the pitch - he has a chance to be great. I don't know if he'll do it --

That being said, I love his antics - like pointing to the corner he was shooting at before beating Hart ...
 
I think the raw elements are there to be a true world beater.

It will never happen though, he's a 12 year old inside a grown genius footballers body.

With Kuyts work rate & effort he would indeed be one of the best players in the world, but that will never happen, sadly.

Same thing with spearing, give him Barton's skill, physical attributes & talent & he'd be an incredible player.
 
Hes saying Barton is boss but a twat (like mario), and if he had sex with spearing, a player who works hard and is all effort (like kuyt), the result would be sensual
 
The fact that he has never missed a penalty goes to show the bucket loads of confidence he has in himself

Im simply bemused by the press he gets regarding his talent. I dont think hes as good as Suarez or Van Persie or Ozil or Drogba or Soldado or Ibrahimovic or dozens more players but in the press eyes he seems to be as good as Ronaldo. Hes fucking miles behind Ronaldo.
I must be missing something.
 
He does have fantastic natural ability and great skill, but he's thick and overall thinks he's better than he is. This is always an issue as he doesn't seem to try because he just thinks he has to turn up

none of those players is 21 and scored 2 great goals in the semi-finals of the euro championships.

Mario Balotelli is the dogs bollocks. He has loads of ability and his antics are just a tolerable side show. If he concentrates more on his football, his potenttial is limitless.
 
He's not that good Roland.

He's strong, got a great touch and is a great finisher.

He quick'ish but not that pacey, not much of a dribbler and has a way to go in terms of bringing others into play.

Fat Ronaldo on the other hand - he had everything.
