Modric breaks leg

I don't get how he'll only be out for 6 weeks if he's broken his leg.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has received an injury blow after it was confirmed that Luka Modric broke his leg against Birmingham on Saturday afternoon.

Tottenham continued their 100% start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Birmingham, but Redknapp saw Ledley King suffer a groin strain which forced him to substitute his key central defender at half-time, while influential midfielder Luka Modric limped off in the second half with a "nasty" leg injury.

Modric had a scan on Saturday night which revealed a break and, while the Croatian will be out of Premier League action for some time, he will also miss his country's World Cup qualifier at Wembley a week on Wednesday.

He told the Croatian daily Jutarnji List: "It's like my whole world has crumbled because I will be out for at least six weeks. I am terribly sad. It wasn't a ferocious tackle but it hurt awfully and I knew something was wrong the moment it happened.

"The worst feeling is knowing that I will be watching both my club and country from the sidelines for a while."

If it's a break of his fibula then it takes six weeks to mend. I doubt he'll be back within eight weeks.

Subsequent X-rays have revealed that the 23-year-old has sustained a fracture to his right fibula.

The injury rules him out of Croatia's World Cup qualifying match with England at Wembley on 9 September.

"Luka Modric suffered a fracture to his fibula on Saturday which does not require surgery and simply requires the wearing of an aircast protective boot," read a statement on the Tottenham club website.

"It is anticipated Luka will be back in training after six weeks."

shame for the lad, easily one of their best players so far this season. i enjoyed watching him play and only wished we had an option such as him although lat season he seemed lucasesque at times.

spurs will falter, i don't think they need players injured for that to happen.
