Mo's smile

I had a thought - and it is one giving me great footballing comfort.

We were largely commenting on the fact that in the early stages of the season it seemed as though Mo wasn't celebrating goals like he used to, that his enjoyment of the game was reducing etc. In December this seemed to change, you see him celebrating his own goals and even those he assists etc with great vigour. At first in a jovial way I thought this was down to his BFF Degsy being on the pitch, but I now think this is related to us actually leading the PL.

Was it a case that he was pissed that he was scoring and we were winning but that we were off the top and it looked like a pointless endeavour to try and chase City. Suddenly, City hit a blip whilst we are still turning it on against Arsenal and continuing to win throughout a tough month.

I now get this feeling that he feels our fate and success is in our hands, and that we are being recognised for it in our league position. I really think we are seeing more out of him and are going to continue to do so. We all know he was never going to be a one season wonder, and his stats were good, however his body language did seem off.

Mo is back and I think his energy is contagious across the front 3 and we'll see the rewards of that throughout Jan.

I'm not sure that is the reason but I'm sure of one thing .. these players are going to be giving it 100% every time they step on the pitch (in the PL). They are well aware of how good this team is and what a chance we have.

He was defo being miserable as fuck earlier in the season when scoring, a face on him like he was being forced to play against his will.
He seems to be back to normal now, maybe he's touched a dog shit whilst kissing the grass.

Are Salah and Lovren besties? Ha.

How do we know this? Yes, that is what I took from your post Brizzle.

Earlier in the season his shoulder was still strapped up after that animal Ramos' tackle in Kiev and at the same time he was having a barney with the Egyptian FA. The fact that he didn't look particularly happy was never much of a mystery IMHO. Time has passed and that lower mood has passed with it. Onwards and upwards.

I think it’s more he was pissed off he wasn’t scoring freely or playing that well.

He is now.

Simple as that.

You genuinely think the state of his shoulder and his fallout with his national FA weren't preying on his mind and probably being the main reasons for that loss of form?

How's the weather on your planet?

Loss of form isn’t the discussion, why he wasn’t smiling is. Hence my answer. All those things contributed for sure for his lack of form.

His shoulder and his relationship with his FA suddenly sprang into his mind after he scored, but only then?

Err.. I don't think that's what JJ meant. Both factors were having an adverse effect on Salah. I think Pat and JJ are both right tbh, there were numerous things going wrong for him and it was reflected on the pitch. It's not that hard to fathom if you think about it.

No one said he only thought about it when he scored, but whatever it takes to use some wank meme.

...which is still hogwash. The Ramos fiasco and the dust-up with the Egyptian FA, and Mo's obvious resultant unhappiness, had already happened by the start of the new season. And you're the one who raised his loss of form, half a dozen posts or so before this one.

If you follow them both on insta they’ve spent the past 12 months or so constantly sending coffee selfies to each other and just generally always sit with each other on the train etc. Annoying to see our best attach himself to our worst

It’s nice to finally have a player who’s main job is to keep our best player happy actually being a decent back up for once

Has Mo been watching Suarez video tapes, he is winning a quite a few number of penalties of late?
I think he has gone with the formula of falling down in the penalty box because he gets surrounded by upto 4 players

His last year has been mental in the sense that him doing his best to stay up after being kicked or pulled resulted in fuck all penalizing for the other teams. I think he’s said ‘fuck it. I’m going down if they touch me from now on’ at some point this season. Good on him.

Yep. Amazing that no one mentions Salah getting the shite kicked out of him on the way to scoring a few weeks ago against Bournemouth.

Thing is, he goes down when it's unlikely he'll score.

Against Bournemouth he believed he would so powered through

He's selective with his falls which I like. It's what all the greats do.

Is there any debate though over whether it was a foul yesterday? It seemed like a clumsy unnecessary challenge from behind. And besides all that, they spent most of the game trying to kick lumps out of our players, so they got what they deserved.

The penalty was bang on. Grabbing at him and then the contact with the wildly swung back leg. Can't see there being any dispute at all.

I think he would have rightly gone down if the Bournemouth one was in the box. Plus i think he backs himself when at full pace versus crowded in the box

Bang on.

You could have taken the ball out of the game and Brighton wouldn't have noticed for at least 10 minutes.

All they did was chase and kick everything in red.

Revived manc supporters are saying Mo dived for the 1-0 win unlike their team that didn't need to dive for the 1-0 win. Wums the lot of them

I think more importantly is why the very fuck are we discussing a distinctly insignificant problem which possibly didn't even really exist.

I'm guessing he was tired and semi-injured having had a very long season plus a shitty world cup hence he wasn't so chirpy... he looks happy enough now tho eh... which leads me to file his early season lack of smiles under: DO NOT GIVE A FUCK.
