Herm Edwards fired today - after 3 years.

I am a wee bit surprised no one has hired any of New England's Coordinators

There is a lot of talk about Dallas cutting Owens - this happens only if Garrett stays imo, which I hope he doesn't as he's kak.

The entire team needs sorting clearly besides Calvin Johnson, Kevin Smith, and Ernie Sims. Many people will say there's no point getting a QB in the draft if you have no o-line, but we can use the Roy Williams pick for that along with free agency. Therefore I'll make this simple:

MATTHEW STAFFORD PLEASE

Wake up, Avy.

The Cheifs just stole their GM and the Lions hired their offense coordinator. 🙂

As for Dallas, as long as JJ is in charge, I don't think TO is going anywhere... JJ is determined to do it his way, despite EVERYBODY he trusts telling him that it's all hurting the team.

Below are the candidates for the Hall of Fame (my picks for the 5 are bolded):

The 15 modern-day finalists subject to the voting process of making the cut to 10 and then five break down this way:

First-year eligible: Defensive tackle John Randle, tight end Shannon Sharpe, defensive end Bruce Smith and defensive back Rod Woodson.

Two contributors: Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue and Buffalo Bills founder/owner Ralph Wilson, Jr.

Other finalists: Wide receiver Cris Carter, center Dermontti Dawson, defensive end Richard Dent, guard Russ Grimm, defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy, guard Bob Kuechenberg, guard Randall McDaniel, wide receiver Andre Reed and linebacker Derrick Thomas

I also hope Bobby Hayes makes it this year -

Er, can I just dispel the ugly rumo(u)r that this has anything to do with me? 😉

Swap Rod Woodson with Shannon Sharpe, and I think I agree with you.

Rod Woodson over Shannon Sharpe, come on man, just because of the Raiders connection. Woodson will get in but not in his first year on the ballot.

Serious? Sharpe, although being a big talker, is one of the best TEs in football - in fact, he revolutionized the position. He was Antonio Gates/Tony Gonzalez/Jay Witten all packaged into one.

Agree lads - He was the best in his position, without question.

Doesn't mean he's in, though - I just have a gut feeling, and it has nothing to do with the Raiders, bro...

I was going over potential draft picks the other day, and I really do not see anyone I think will come in and change the team, at least not the teams that have the first few picks. I guess it is a combination of lack of real game changers in the draft, and the really bad teams need a lot more than one player. Any thoughts?

TAMPA, Fla. (AP)—Career sacks leader Bruce Smith, versatile defensive back Rod Woodson and four others made the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, while former commissioner Paul Tagliabue was denied entry for the third straight year.

Joining Smith, who led Buffalo to four straight Super Bowl appearances, and Woodson are longtime Bills owner Ralph Wilson; the late Chiefs linebacker Derrick Thomas; former Minnesota guard Randall McDaniel; and the late Bob Hayes, a standout wide receiver for Dallas and the 1964 Olympic 100 meters gold medalist.

I was surprised by that, though you can understand why - He was living off those two Elway/Davis rings. I hope the 'Boys land 'em unless Bum, I mean Wade Phillips wins us the big one this year.

Wade will get it done, in Dallas Super Bowls are always surrounded by controversy.

The only thing that muppet will get done in Dallas is his flippin' dinner!

Former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson was arrested and booked into an Atlanta-area jail late Saturday night on a felony possession-of-cocaine charge and possession-of-marijuana charge, a misdemeanor.

Anderson, an NFL analyst for ESPN's First Take this past season, was booked into the Fulton County jail in Georgia and denied bond.

His first hearing was set for Monday at 9 a.m., the Fulton County sheriff's office said Sunday.

Anderson, 36, was arrested at the Peachtree Tavern in the community of Buckhead, according to Atlanta media.

Police found a suspected marijuana cigarette in Anderson's pocket, the reports said. Another man with Anderson was also arrested. Police said both men were in possession of cocaine.

"We just learned of this situation, and it is not appropriate for us to comment until we have more information," said George McNeilly, senior director of communications at ESPN, in a statement.

Anderson last played in 2001. He helped lead the Falcons to their first NFC title in 1998, when he rushed for 1,846 yards and set an NFL record for carries in a season with 410. It was his only Pro Bowl season.

The Falcons lost to the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl that season.

Anderson rushed for 5,336 yards in eight NFL seasons, all with the Falcons. He retired after tearing the ACL in his left knee. He tore the ACL in his right knee during the 1999 season.

He was drafted out of Utah by the Falcons in the seventh round of the 1994 NFL draft, No. 201 overall.

for that one season, he was phenomenal.

NEW YORK (AP)—Brett Favre informed the New York Jets on Wednesday he will retire after 18 seasons, ending a record-setting career in which he was one of the NFL’s premier quarterbacks.

The 39-year-old instructed agent James “Bus†Cook to tell the team of his decision, six weeks after Favre’s only season with the Jets ended in disappointment as New York failed to make the playoffs.

In an e-mail to ESPN, Favre said he has no regrets about ending his career in New York and praised owner Woody Johnson, general manager Mike Tannenbaum and fired coach Eric Mangini.

“Mike and Woody, as well as the entire organization, have been nothing short of outstanding,†Favre said in the e-mail. “My teammates—Thomas (Jones) and Kerry (Rhodes) included—were a pleasure to play with. Eric could not have been any better. I enjoyed playing for him. My time with the Jets was short, but I’m honored to be given that chance.â€

Running back Jones and safety Rhodes were critical after the season of Favre and his performance. The Jets went from 8-3 to missing the playoffs. Favre threw nine interceptions as the Jets went 1-4 down the stretch, and a torn right biceps might have contributed.

We'll see if he changes his mind again, I think its sad to come back when he is definitely not at the top of his game, it won't tarnish his reputation, but I think it is just plain embarrassing.

Fred Taylor released by Jacksonville yesterday ... He's had a really good career this lad, top 20 all time in rushing and one of the 4 players the Jags relied on heavily to make 'em a contender (Brunell, McCardell & Smith)

The Oakland Raiders reached agreement with cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on a $45.3 million, three-year contract that makes him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.

Sources said Asomugha is guaranteed $28.5 million in a complicated deal that features a provision in which the entire contract can be guaranteed if the Raiders decide to keep the 27-year-old for the third season.

The seventh-year pro is one of the league's elite cover defenders. He was selected for the Pro Bowl and chosen to The Associated Press All-Pro team last season despite getting just one interception because Oakland's opponents rarely even dared to throw to his side of the field.

Asomugha made critical statements about the Raiders' direction late in their sixth consecutive losing season, but acknowledged he probably would remain with the club because of the franchise tag. His new contract and the Raiders' new coaching staff likely made the decision much easier.

This was the second major re-signing by the Raiders in two days; on Wednesday, Shane Lechler agreed to a four-year, $16 million contract, the richest ever for a punter.

Both deals were negotiated by agent Tom Condon, with Raiders owner Al Davis having significant involvement in brokering the agreements.

I never watch the Rai...Duhs this year. Is he that good that he warrants this kinda contract?

Lewis tells Ware he wants to be a Cowboy
Posted: February 21st, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Dallas Cowboys, DeMarcus Ware, Ray Lewis

Ray Lewis as a Dallas Cowboy might not be as far fetched as some think, at least not according to linebacker DeMarcus Ware.

In an interview on the Cowboys website, Ware said flat out that Lewis wants to play in Dallas.

“When we played Ray Lewis and Baltimore at the end of the season,†Ware told the the Cowboys website, “He came over and pointed to my helmet. He said, ‘I want to wear this star on my helmet, that’s my dream . . . that’s my dream.’ When we got to the Pro Bowl, he did it again. He came at me every day. It’s a great opportunity for him. His door is open. He’s an unrestricted free agent. He’s trying to get down where the star is. He told me he needed me to get him Jerry Jones‘ phone number for him. I just busted out laughing.
“I think he is genuine,†Ware said. “Believe me, he is genuine. He talked to me before he became a free agent. He talked to me two years ago about it. He calls me about once a week and talks about it then. I even said, ‘Hey, Ray, I’m tired about talking about this. You need to find Jerry Jones’ number and fly out there and talk to him. … He says things like ‘D-Ware, I need to get down there. You’re the pass-rush guy and I need to play with you. Just call Jerry for me. Just call him. Just call him.’â€
No need. Free agency starts Friday. We’ll find out soon enough.

this is a rumor that has been going around for a few weeks - i think salary cap MAY be an issue here but if we can get him to play along side bradie james in the 3-4 d, we should have a phenomenal defense IF we get a proper SS!

If we dump Owens we will have more than enough cap room, just don't see it happening though, who knows if JJ puts his mind to something he usually accomplishes it. I think Lewis would give us at least 2 more great years before he declines.

I think Ray Lewis at a 'mediocre' level is fine tbh - he's that good of a player.

I don't think Jerry will cut TO but he should. I think it would allow us to strengthen the team with the additional cap room. Will it happen? I doubt it very much.

I agree Lewis would be a great addition, especially in terms of veteran leadership. Like you said I don't see JJ, dumping Owens, although there is talk in the media that he is considering it.

As far as talent goes we are in great shape. Romo will continue to mature, we will have a healthy Barber, and a helthy Felix Jones, Witten at tight end, plus Williams (who I believe will come good next year after a full year of training camp and so on) plus crayton and bennet. wit or without owens we are fine on offense. The only improvement we need is the offensive line which went downhill at the end of the season.

defense we are in good shape as well, a fantastic pass rush and run defense, to which lewis would be a great addition. We need to shore up the secondary, everytime our opponents dropped back to pass last year I would cringe until the play was over.

BArring a few additions we are in great shape talent wise, our biggest weakness is cohesion and leadership.

Lewis will help that, and Romo needs to step up in that department, but i really think if Owen departs that problem is solved anyway.

All in all next year, I expect us to win number 6.

You need to get a place of your own quickly, mate - You've gone insane.

From not making the playoffs with a totally fracture changing room and a coach that nobody respects to winning next year's SB, with NO changes to prompt it...

Come visit soon - I'll set you straight. 🙂
