If there's any truth in this rumour it will mean two things; Gerrard's injury is not too bad and we can challenge for the title this season.

Lucas set to make shock Liverpool exit
Brazilian star no longer prepared to stay on the bench

Brazilian star Lucas looks set to make a shock exit from Liverpool, according to ‘The Lying Rag’.

Kop insiders say the midfielder could be on his way despite being voted Player of the Year last season.

The Reds have splashed out £49 million on midfielders this summer, bringing in Stewart Downing from Aston Villa, Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson and Blackpool’s Charlie Adam.

That spending spree has created a glut of middle men on Merseyside, with the new boys joining Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole, Raul Meireles, Alberto Aquilani, Christian Poulsen, Maxi Rodriguez, Jonjo Shelvey, Jay Spearing and Milan Jovanovic.

And Lucas, 24, who was signed for £6 million by Rafa Benitez in 2007, has made it clear he will not be happy on the bench.

A source said: “Lucas only signed a new deal in March and was voted Player of the Year by the fans.

“But the word is he is leaving and that will shock a lot of people, especially after he played so well last season.”

It's a spurious source printed in a shit-rag making the story hugely doubtful but I'm gonna cling to it for a while.

Quoted for truth.

If we haven't got someone lined up to do the same kind of job, whether within the squad (Adam was getting stuck in more in that game in Malaysia than I ever saw him do for Blackpool) or a prospective new purchase, I actually agree.

Of course it would be. He's our most consistent "defensive" midfielder and player of the season last year. He's improved year on year and is young enough to continue on an upward curve.

He also rivals Kuyt for fantastic attitude and work-rate, yet doesn;t enjoy the same patience from fans, even though Kuyt regularly suffers far worse dips in form.

He'd be in my starting 11 against Sunderland on merit without doubt. It'd be a big mistake to sell him, but I've no doubt this is garbage anyway.

You must be getting really desperate Pesam to start believing reports from the shit rag.

I don't care much either way if we keep Lucas or not.

He is not as bad as he was but he doesn't add a lot either.

I'm as indifferent to this as anyone can possibly be...

I think he is good enough to get a place on the bench.

If he starts more than 50% of our games, i'm certain we would be struggling again to make 4th. If he is relegated to the bench again (similar to when we had Xabi and Masher) because we have better quality, then he is a good player to have as squad cover for a team with title aspirations.

What i really hate reading on this site is the constant pimping of Lucas as the messiah of all things football and resultant deriding of anyone who disagrees with that stand-point. I understand RAWK (based on that RAWK thread we had going for a while) is worse in this regard, but this site is slowly becoming just as bad.

For that reason alone, may be i'd be glad to see his back and welcome someone else who can add a bit of steel to our engine-room.

I've had enough of this "He must start....no he can't" debates....

worst article ever.. Jovanovic a midfielder??

If there was big money available by the midtable clubs in Spain or Italy i could see it happening...

most of the clubs wouldnt be able to afford to spent more than 10 million pounds on one player. I think we would be stupid to sell for anything less than 20 million.. considering the amount we have been paying for players..

The only way i can see Lucas leaving is in a part exchange of some sort... Mata in - lucas and money out..

I don't think there is any club in the world willing to pay 20 million pounds for Lucas....come on...get serious!

Actually that is exactly what i thought about Downing until a few weeks back...so what do i know...

we add an attacking option and lose the only dedicated holding midfielder in the squad (unless you count spearing).

Oh.. i forgot to add..

id prefer to see Lucas gone...

We should have players like Alonso controlling our midfield.. Not a midfielder with some significant flaws. I think he has done well to cement his place into the team and improve his game... perhaps under Kenny's Guidence he can continue to improve..

if he is happy to play the occasional game and sit on the bench ... then keep.

if he thinks he deserves to start every game - which i somehow doubt.. then the truth is.. he simply isnt good enough to take us to the next level.

we should but we don't and geting rid of lucas will only create a hole in midfield seeing has there are several midfielders aren't prepared to tackle.

We could replace Lucas easily enough, but there really isn't much point.

For the fee we would receive we may as well keep him around as a squad player. And let's be frank, Charlie Adam and Henderson are hardly going to be automatic starters for us.

Lucas on his way ?!

Star Sports (Sky to you lot over in Europe) have just reported Lucas may be on his way as a result of our MF signings this Summer .... no other details were given (just a camera shot of our YNWA gates).

Bloody hell ... didn't see this coming if true. Almost unheard of for Star (Sky) to report something like this without something of substance.

Re: Lucas on his way ?!

saw on sky sports paper round up thing this morning that lucas is on his way

it was from The Lying Rag

i decided it was bollocks

Who ?

Anyway let me just say that this doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever - that would leave us without a single DM (not that Lucas as recognised as such, or that I believe we need an out and out DM) - as in this day and age it seems every team needs to have one, even if hidden in the closet.

after being a lont time critic of lucas, I am now unsure whether he should leave. his best strength his maintaining possession and keeping play going, not sure who else can do that job, i have heard that Adams can do it, but he has yet to prove himself.

United are linked with Schweinsteiger. I'd wank all day if we managed to steal that deal or that didn't come to fruition...
