Now that I've calmed down a bit, some tactical observations from the game:
  • My guess is Klopp reshuffled the front 3 with Mane on the right, Salah middle and Bobby left for one main reason – to counter the attacking threat of Chilwell down our right. If so, it shows the kind of respect he has for this Leicester team – also confirmed by his post-match interview talking about Leicester playing in Europe next season as a near-certainty. Mane and Salah switched positions a couple of times and ironically both of Sadio’s goal contributions came from his usual left side, but this switch did lead to a few crucial defensive interventions from Mane on Chilwell and also allowed Trent to play his normal attacking game having better protection from his wing-forward.
  • The midfield was reshuffled too – Milner came in for Hendo, but not directly in his position, as might be expected. Instead, Gini moved to the right and played as the most attack-minded midfielder of the 3, Fabinho played his usual role of pushing up very aggressively to fight for second balls cleared from Leicester's penalty area, while Milner assumed Gini's role of covering space left by Fabinho, which led to him often being the deepest-lying of the 3, almost the Lallana-Jorginho role. Not sure how viable it is long-term, but it was interesting – Milner created Mane's goal from his deep midfield station (Gini probably wouldn't have made that pass), while Gini got into a few dangerous attacking positions, maybe not enough, but still showing more goal threat than Hendo does in most games.
  • Salah had a stinker of a game and it started with his poor passing – probably the weakest part of his game and the first thing that goes when he is not on form. This is the first time in a long time I can remember myself screaming at the TV at one of our players; some of his passes in the 2nd half were just pathetic and you can see how it started to affect his overall confidence as the game progressed. People say he's selfish, but some of it might be just not trusting himself to get the weight of the pass right.
  • Lallana coming on for the injured Salah to play in the front 3 gave me unpleasant flash-backs to the Kyiv final. But he was actually the one who won the header against Ndidi with his first touch that dropped for Origi in space, which ultimately led to the penalty. We probably don't win this game if he doesn’t win that header. Meanwhile, Rodgers' half-time substitution of Albrighton has ultimately backfired; the experienced player completely lost his head, made a silly mistake and then compounded it by lunging at Mane. That's where the element of luck comes in and fortunately it arrived at a crucial moment for us. It's this combination of little key moments like that which builds the winning momentum...

Salah's poor passing often stems from him trying to make a last second decision to pass. He holds the ball for too long sometimes trying to create an opportunity for himself before looking for someone to pass it to. In many cases it's already too late.

Ultimately on another day it would have been very comfortable.

Currently only City are at our level.

This season the league is like real Barca or Celtic Rangers season from 15 years ago.

Beat City home and away and 11pts will be hard to make up

I say this every season. The title is always in our own hands. Win all of our matches and we win the league.
I'd rather we stop looking at City and focus on continuing our win streak

Rodgers is off his nut by saying Leicester deserved a point.
We bossed that game and deserved the win.

The mentality in this team compared to a few years ago is insane.

they had one shot on target.

Ya but that’s stupid and builds pressure early.

Re: the match. I've rewatched a bunch of it this morning - i prefer Gini to Hendo in that more advanced role. If Keita steps up then longer term maybe it is Fabs - Keita - Gini. We've seen what he does attacking wise for Netherlands, and he's scored big goals for us over the years when he gets in the box. Just not frequently enough.

Yeah, I think he always thinks about how he's going to score first and foremost, from every attack. Then when that opportunity starts to close down, he thinks too late about what else is around him or what alternative he has. His all round play in that sense is pretty poor, compared to Bobby and Mane.

Salahs passing has been woeful although He has noticeably been looking for his team mates more. Its not working presently but I think it bodes well for the future when he gets it right.

The way we dominated most of the match, then found a way to win at the end is very pleasing and encouraging. I thought they were great with the exception of so many misplaced final balls....

He might have put all of this weeks wages on us getting a penalty though, and will now recieve a decent cash out from Bet1815272738..

How sure? Like 'pretty sure he meant respect'?

That sure? When there was literally NOTHING else he could possibly have been referring to?
Try saying 'pretty sure he meant respect'' with as different emphasis as you can think of and let's and see how many alternative interpretations you can come up with.

Then ponder which one I intended. Should keep you busy for an hour or two.

Totally agree with you Modo - but so glad you said it first, because people will now try and fuck you over rather than me.

Fuck you, you smug, jug-eared virtue-signalling, crisp-flogging tit....IT'S THE RAAAAAAAAAATAIIIIINGGGSSSSSS.

"Hello, Liverpool fans, Football Gods here, would you like to pick this weekend's football results? You would!? Well, go ahead then! This one's on us!"

Apart from fucking Arsenal, this was as good as it gets. You all lose! And we win!!!!!!!! A quite-fancied Leicester arrive, full of optimism and fabulous character, and duly give us a game. But it was a game that we won - right at the very last gasp - and overall, we deserved it, especially in the first half when Leicester seemed overwrought and timid.

Adrian (5) The last two games have made Alisson's imminent return even more welcome. Moved a bit late when coming out to tackle the always-dangerous Vardy and then let Maddison's shot go straight through him. Was fairly quiet and assured apart from that, but he nearly cost us points again.

TAA (7) Very influential, he was solid defensively and Chilwell had a dreadful first half, he couldn't deal with him in defence or attack. The contest was more even in the second 45, but overall TAA cam out on top, and really should have added a few more assists to his name; a few of his deliveries into the box were almost impossible to defend and should have ended up in the goal.

Lovren (7) Perhaps a bit of a surprise, but given Gomez's last display wasn't exactly great, perhaps not. Either way, fully justified Klopp's trust with an aggressive and reliable display, and gave Vardy limited space and time to cause any damage.

Virgil (6) Improved compared to the Salzburg display, but still seems almost human, and made a couple of small errors - could have done much better for their goal. Solid as usual apart from that, but can play much better.

Robertson (7) Not quite as eye-catching with his passing and final ball as his mate on the other flank, but still got into some great positions and had one decent effort, even if it was smacked down the goalkeeper's throat a bit. Little bit of needle at the end too, which is nice.

Fabinho (7) Another very decent display with a few cracking challenges thrown in and some neat passing. He did get a bit loose in possession as the game went on, and was rightly booked for a cynical foul, which seemed to curb his enthusiasm a bit. Good overall; he can certainly play better, but he's generally consistently solid, which is vital in this role.

Wijnaldum (6) Lots of good stuff in the first half, without really hurting them enough - his passing is still so conservative - but he did seem a bit less effective after an hour and looked in need of a rest, which he duly got when replaced by Henderson.

Milner (8) Well, well, well. Not for the first time this season (or indeed since he arrived, in one of our most brilliant free signings ever) the evergreen Milner was arguably the best player on the pitch. The pass for Mane's goal was glorious, curved beyond a despairing Jonny Evans right into the path of a speeding Sadio, and then he despatched a typically nerveless pelanty and celebrated like the boss he is.

Salah (6) Worked like a lunatic and ran at Leicester all afternoon, but his passing was really wonky and for a while he couldn't have found a red shirt in a fucking abbatoir. One good shot was well saved and then he was whalloped late on by that stupid-haired dirty cunt Choudhary and had to go off.

Firmino (5) Doesn't ever look like he's enjoying himself when played wide, where he doesn't have the pace or space to really operate at his best. Looked much happier when switched back, and should have done much better with one chance, but again, he's not really the most reliable in that respect. Ordinary.

Mane (8) Started on the right and contributed to making Chilwell have one of the most gruelling 45 minutes of his nascent career. Switched back, scored a beauty, won the (generous) pelanty and generally gave Leicester a horrible time of it. Marvellous.
