How happy is everyone?

12th in the league having won only two games, top of our group in The European also rans tournament and knocked out of the Carling Cup.

It's been eventful

Well I only watch one match at a time nowadays and don't bother looking at the league table. I only cheer and angst during matches but other than that I find that I don't really think much about the next match.

I am ambivalent about the football being played because ultimately I want us to win. We have not been winning as much as I would like us to, so results-wise not as happy as I could be.

Not extremelly happy. I wish we were good, but we keep on dropping two steps back for every two we make forward. I don't know. A little bit bored... I like a lot of the players, and I do like the fact that some of the youngster have done well. But I can't see that we are a treath to someone and we have trouble setting the games on fire. But relying everything on Luis is not the way forward for this club. Especially given that the rest of the country can't stand him (which actually make me love him even more), which is not helping us or him the slightest bit.

I don't believe that we are near anything great. I felt the margins were more against us last season than this one. I am also unsure how the so called system are going to be our only way to glory, especially given that the two guys brought in as they already knew the system yet have to convince me they are going to offer what we need to progress. But it is not all black, it is a huge shadow of grey as well there!!! 😉

We're not exactly punching above our weight. That said, given 2 of our 3 main attackers are so inexperienced it's not too surprising.

Exaclty Mark, it is no great surprise.
I'd say we'll finish 9th-12th this season

I know there's a long way to go and it might be a case of too little to late, but I think a 'good' striker early doors in January will rectify alot of our problems.

Regarding the cups aswell, I think it was always fairly inevitable we'd fall short in one of them, given we're having to litter the first team with ressies already.

At the moment, we're trying to put lipstick on a pig. If Tito Vilanova went to Stoke, and tried to get them playing tika taka, with their players, it would fall flat on its face.
I like what Rodgers is trying to do, but it is a completely different way of training and playing for all bar one of our players, so we don't currently have the players to achieve it. It will take time.
I'm not sure where everyone was expecting us to be at this stage, with a new manager, a new way of playing football, and a terrible squad? I think we're about level for the par.
I'd love us to be about the top 4, but it's going to take time for that to happen.

I'm happy, I wasn't expecting blindly that we'd do amazing this season.

Next season, at this stage, behind 3 transfers windows, and about 18months in charge, I'd expect a lot lot better.

Nothing is decided this early in the season.

We are so many positives and have been improving almost every week.

What is there to be happy or unhappy about? We are where we are where we are suppose to be. Expectations have been shoehorned and we all live our lives ignorant, innocent and content.
*singing somewhere over the rainbow*

So Hodgson did his job then?

He lowered expectations so much you're happy with midtable mediocrity?

It was not Hodgson. It was BR when he came in. There is nothing we can be happy or unhappy about given the present state of affairs and reality. Good for the heart mate.

Its a difference between accepting and understanding a year in transition than accepting and expecting midtable mediocrity.

The squad last year was good enough to beat mancs and others on the way to winning the cup. Then Rodgers comes in, trims that squad, loses to Swansea and then has the nerve to complain he has a 'very, very, thin squad'. The club's a laughing stock, and an over-talkative, self-adoring young manager who's not come close to winning anything in his career is being indulged to an extent normally only witnessed at a lower league team like MK Dons. Invent as many excuses as you like, it's a shambles, and the club deserves every last ton of shit that is now heaving down from a great height.

I thought from the beginning of the season we wouldn't go above half by Xmas

I thought the same first day of the season, when we lost Lucas and had Strikergate II on the last day of the window I thought we'd be lucky to finish in the top half by the end of the season, I still believe that. The sort of team most sides send out for the league cup is the kind of team we are playing week in and out.

This season is a write off for me, but not in a negative way, its part of a larger upward arc. We will do very well to finish 8th this year

If you add that to the rant Ryan had in the other topic, find phrases that rhyme and shouted it down a mic in a busy nightclub you could be like Rabbits final rap in the hip hop battle on 8-MIle.

Tell us something we don't know about how shit we are. I FUCKING DARE YOU.

I thought we only beat the Mancs on the way to the FA Cup, which we didn't end up winning.

As for your other points, I think you're being overly harsh because you wanted Daglish here another year.

Let's be honest, Carroll has done nothing in his games for West Ham (he's been slowed by injuries), Adam has done nothing at Stoke, and Downing has shown little bar two great finishes for any sane person to believe that he was worth such a large investment. Henderson will work his way into a larger role on this team, and Coates is the future. Rodgers was given an average squad - one that needed trimming (partially due to skill, partially due to financial stress the contracts were causing). The squad is still average, and is thin because of a terrible mistake (yet again) on the last day of the transfer window (who's to blame? who cares, it was a fuck up). I think we'll be ok ... If things are still going south next year after two more transfer windows, I'll be sad to say "macca was right" ...

I love the king Macca, and we had some great results last season, but we also had games when we were utterly dire. And he was responsible for bringing in Downing, Carrol and Henderson, so it wasn't all roses last season.
The players that went in the summer had to go, they were massively overpaid (not kenny's fault) and them going helped us balance the books, but yes, we went a little too far, and have left ourself a bit too then. But then I guess we deserve a season or so of that for being stupid enough to get ourself into that position.
Just because Rodgers isn't a multi-trophy winning manager that has managed in 6 countries and won everything anywhere, doesn't mean anything. Had Shanks?

I seriously doubt Rodgers cut that deep out of choice, why would he, what does he have to gain by decimating the squad? He was clearly misled/let down over the Carroll deal. I firmly believe the owners decided to tank this season, bring through some players burn down some contracts lower costs and rebuild from next year using the money banked.

Either that or they want out.

The way some compare little Fudgie to Shanks just because Shanks hadn't won anything is laughable. It's like some school drop-out desperately trying to cite a famous school drop-out, instead one of millions of talentless drop-outs, to prove they're going to be something special. Rodgers is his own biggest fan. If he actually achieved something I suspect his fucking head would explode. He never loses, of course - it's the team that does that, his 'paper-thin squad' that does that. Never Brendan's fault. When the team wins it's a sign of his genius. When it loses he's keen to point out what a massive job this is. Not only vain, then, but cynical and cowardly. Forget tiki- taka, all he's brought is talky talky. He should be managing Ipswich.

i know comparing Rodgers to Shanks is insulting, and I didn't mean it that way, Rodgers isn't 1% of the man. But, I'm trying to get across that you seem to be writing off Rodgers just because he hasn't been in the game 30years and won everything in other countries. If it was as simple as that, Sven and Capello would have been great successes recently.
The way he wants us to play, giving chances to the kids, making bold (correct) decisions like going to a back 3, and being honest with the fans and press are all the attributes I'd want from a manager, and for that he deserves time. I think success will come, but not overnight. But it was never going to come overnight with anyone bar Mourinho coming with the state of our club and squad.

He was promised two more players so why shouldnt he moan about it.
Tbh I think he has handled the whole transfer fuck up in a very calm and respectful manner.

There was only a perceived fuck up because Rodgers told the media
