Liverpool vs Inter team news

Liverpool could have a fully fit squad to choose from when Inter visit Anfield, with Thiago and Firmino both targeting returns from injury ahead of the Champions League clash.

Jurgen Klopp’s biggest decision could be who to start alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, with Luis Diaz impressing since arriving in January but Diogo Jota also now fully fit again.

Nicola Barella missed the first leg and will once again be absent for Inter, as he serves the second match of his suspension following a red card against Real Madrid in the group stage.

Ivan Perisic missed Inter’s big win over the weekend, and faces a race to prove his fitness for the trip to England.

Head to head (h2) history and results
Liverpool wins: 4

Draws: 0

Inter Milan wins: 1

Difficult to predict the starting XI. Think Klopp will do some rotating. Might see one or two surprises. We'll see what he says in the presser.

Klopp in Presser: "Thiago, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino all trained yesterday (Sunday). We're not sure exactly, we have to see how they react. Bobby was out for a longer time so might need something else. Joel was only three or four days so he is fine. "

I wonder why has Elliott been used so sparingly since his return - does Klopp think he’s not quite as good as he was pre-injury or is it simply a matter of protecting him? Anyway, I’m pretty sure he’ll play against Inter.

Kinda think that Klopp might not want to change to much. We also have 5 subs, so hopefully we get a goal early to basically kill the game off.

Matip is back so I'd start him. Jota has to start. Rest Salah or have him on the bench.
I'd also start Minamino. Maybe rest one of the fullbacks. Wouldn't mind seeing Tsimikas.

Alisson

Trent
Van Dijk
Matip
Tsimikas

Fabs
Jones
Keita

Minamino
Jota
Mané

He hasn't been that good lately tbf.

I watched the highlights of Inter’s last game vs Salernitana. Lautaro Martinez finally scored (a hat-trick, in fact) and looks to be on the way to restoring his confidence. Barella was the chief creator for them and will be missed.

He was out for a long time though. He'll be eased back I reckon.

As always it's a little tricky because 2-0 doesn't mean it's done. If they get the first goal it's game on. So we can't play a weak team but 2-3 changes and then 5 subs from the bench when the game is in its death throes.

Gomez rests TAA as he is more defensive minded and still pacy when required.
Tsimikas is no problem as stand-in to rest Robbo.
Ox. will track back better than Jones.

------------------------------- Alisson

Gomez -------- Matip --------------- V.v.D ---------- Tsimikas

-------------------------------- Fabs

------------------- Ox. --------------- Keita

Mo ------------------------- Diogo --------------- Mane

Mo.(Minamino), Mane (Origi), Ox (for Elliott), Keita (for Jones) + Thiago, for one of the forwards when the match is done, are the 5 subs.

Reckon Klopp's taking his usual approach of just letting him train for a while, to get him properly ready and in tune with the system.

I wouldn't change more than 3 players. Seems too risky. The game is Tuesday so there's time to recover. I'd rest Salah for sure though, bring him on vs tiring legs

Trent Konate Virg Robbo
Fab Hendo Jones
Minamino Jota Mane

Oh yes - knockout CL games at Anfield are back! I think we will see very similar team to West Ham aside from up front where I see Jota starting. I would hope that Thiago gets minutes as a sub. I would actually like to see Jones get a start too, but I think Klopp will be keen to keep Naby growing in form & rhythm.

I'd look to start strong and swap out after we are a goal up after HT. They're not getting 3 at Anfield, so we just need to go out and get the goal.

Thiago, Taki and Origi to come off the bench.
