Reds agree deal for winger

16th Aug 2012

Liverpool Football Club have reached an agreement with SC Heerenveen for the transfer of winger Oussama Assaidi, subject to the player passing a medical.

The 24-year-old, who has scored 20 goals in 68 appearances for Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie, will now undergo a medical at Melwood.

Assaidi has represented his native Morocco 22 times since making his international debut in February 2011.

One of the highlights of his young career came in a 6-2 win over FC Twente in 2010 when he scored a hat-trick and assisted the other three goals.

Anyone know anything about him? Seems like he's a left sided player who likes to come in on his right foot, bit like Borini?

Oh, I knew about this weeks ago from my source. Couldnt share it or he woudl have been sacked.

Talk about "behind closed doors" 🙂

eh? I love it when signings come completely out of the blue. Like Anelka when he came.

He was last linked with Galatasaray at the end of Jun for €4 million.

Galatasaray are reported to have agreed terms with Heerenveen over Oussama Assaidi.

The €4 million move will see Assaidi join the Istanbul club on a five year contract worth €1.1 million per-season with a €10000 bonus per-match played.

Assaidi arrived in Istanbul last week to discuss terms with the Istanbul club.

The 23 year old Heerenveen winger held a meeting with coaches Ümit Davala, Hasan Şaş as well as club official Bülent Tulun on the Galatasaray Adasi [Island], located in the Bosporus.

Assaidi was highly sought-after by the Lions due to his versatility in being able to play on the left wing as well a forward.

Galatasaray struggled down the left side of midfield last season, Albert Riera failed to live up to expectations, forcing Manager Fatih Terim into playing Emre Çolak out of position on the wing.

Assaidi joined Heerenveen in 2009 on a free transfer from De Graafschap. The Moroccan international scored 10 goals and made seven assists in 29 games last season.

The Istanbul club are coming off the back of a title winning season and are managed by Fatih Terim.

Apparently £3m. He can't be that good for that price can he? Although 20 goals in 60 games is pretty sweet for a winger.

1st goal at 2.17
2nd goal at 4.17
1st assist at 6.51
2nd assist at 7.37
3rd goal at 8.34
3rd assist at 9.22

Fucking awesome work from the club as well, not a soul knew about this. Maybe Neymar will be signing afterall.

Wont take much to be better than our last Morrocan.

Rodgers has made some excellent signings from the Eredivisie before.
Looks like he has some pace and skill.

Well from that clip he doesn't have a lot of pace but it's made up for with excellent technical ability and some Suarez-like tricks, an eye for a pass and scores goals with either foot. Nice, if he can bring it to the PL.

Seems the sort of player Rodgers would have been watching with Swansea in mind and at that price well worth the gamble.

I'm really pleased to see our business being done this way. Not even a whisper !

Chap seems like the Anti-Downing. He wants to take on his man every time (and sometimes one or two more). Seems to put in a shift too coming back to defend in style.

I think him and Narsingh were linked with Fulham earlier on in the summer.
At the time Jen Chang tweeted that He couldn't believe higher profile clubs weren't chasing them.
Might have come from his recommendation.

His right peg doesn't look to bad either, definately one for Rodgers methodology of wingers cutting in onto there stronger foot.

YAY I LOVE ASSAIDI!!!! on PES....

Seriously we need that type of player on wing. I've mentioned Belhanda and Boudabouz before. Here's another North African I wouldn't mind.

His name is Osama...hehehe
