Ruben Neves

18 years old, plays for Porto in midfield.
Probably pretty good, no idea though.

Considering that it's Porto they'll probably demand £30 mill for him.

The lads that said Rodgers would get fired/ Klopp signing etc have said this deal is close. Very close.

Other players we want are Gundogan and Karius.
Gundogan will have 1 year left on his contract next summer.

Well I hope we're in the CL by then, cause Gundogan will have a lot of suitors.

I remember we were linked to Neves about a year back. Same thing happened with Firmino and Gomez, with links going a fair way back.

Anyway, fwiw I looked at a few YouTube vids of Neves back then and I thought he looked superb. He seemed like a true all rounder.

£30m release clause but potentially well worth it.

We haven't kicked a ball yet under Klopp and we're already discussing transfers? These kinda threads get on my Neves.

You're right but sometimes the rumours are too nice to ignore:

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp fancies a reunion with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Sunday Mirror says Lewandowski's agent has hinted that the striker's future will not be with Bayern Munich - and Klopp is ready to make a play to tempt the 27-year-old to Anfield.

Liverpool have £32million Christian Benteke, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi, while Mario Balotelli is on loan at AC Milan.

But Klopp will not hesitate to sanction a move for Lewandowski if he gets any indication that Bayern will sell.
He took Lewandowski to Borussia Dortmund before selling him to Bayern.

Don't know if this Neves lad is the real deal, but he looks a lot better than that overrated pile of junk William Carvalho.

He impressed against the chavs. If we're keen on him the main question is whether Klopp thinks he's first-team ready. We don't want another Markovic situation, spunking big money on potential.

I don't know, Klopp is not a miracle worker. The problem with Markovic so far has been that he couldn't adjust to the different level of intensity compared to what he was used to in Portugal, if anything Klopp's tactics will require even more intensity.

Different intensity is something you might expect to be a short term problem. Far less athletic and energetic players than Markovic have adapted, when given sufficient opportunity.

In fact, one of the main qualities he showed before he came to LFC was a real dynamism.

Not sure Markovic was given much of a chance, to be honest - in saying that I didn't see him in training, which is often where the managerial judgements are made.

This is true.

My main issue with Markovic is that for all the snake hips moves and flowing locks, hes actually deceptively average paced...and he doesn't have a trick....and his ball delivery doesn't seem to be the best. All in all, thats a pretty big deal.

I can accept that as a youngish lad coming to a new country and then not making the team regularly (so taking a blow to the confidence) would take it out of you - but slowing you down and inhibiting your passing and crossing ability? I'm not so sure.

For the record im hoping it was all confidence based, and he becomes a beast under Klopp (Im still clinging to reports of the Lisbon fans who reckoned he was better than Ronaldo for them).

He looked and played a bit like Aquilani to me - clearly talent in there but too much of a wet lettuce.

Hope we see something for our 20M investment but I'm not holding my breath.

If I had to guess I'd say Markovic was just completely shocked to discover his problems adapting to the PL. He seemed positively arrogant when he arrived, boasting about the impact he'd make. He'd been a precocious talent for about the previous five years, and it must have shaken him to find he had such a fight on his hands. That allied to a manager who clearly didn't believe in him and wasn't going to devote time to his best development must've been difficult.

Personally I take the complaints about a lack of pace with a pinch of salt. I've seen him when he's looked very fast for Benfica (and now with Fenerbahce too). Am I being deceived? Maybe. Maybe the pace of the game in Portugal and Turkey is slower or something, and he just looks quick in comparison. Or maybe it's a subtler matter of him not having the confidence to go into full sprint mode for us as he does for his other teams - the kind of scything runs through the middle of the pitch that is such a feature of his game.

I mean, I remember a time when people seriously questioned Sterling's pace.

I dunno, maybe there's something in it, maybe not.

As for questions about his character, I'm not sure if the standard 'wimp' charge is fair. I've seen him be pretty tenacious at times - even a bit too pugnacious, given he's been sent off more than once. My reservation is slightly different. I wonder if he might just be a bit *odd*, and struggles to fit into the typical dynamic of a PL team. I get the feeling he doesn't particularly get on with some of the other players, particularly the English ones.
