Beyond Glasgow it struggles to fill 10k seater stadiums. I am noticing kids deciding to support a team an England rather than one closer to home, just like the Irish and Scando countries do.
Personal opinion is they should talk to the FA and see if they can somehow merge the leagues. How they do it, u don't know? However, I am sure maths wizards will have an idea

I don't understand why they don't have 2 larger leagues, rather than 4 tiny ones.

With a population of 4 million and being part of UK, you have to ask why they have leagues at all. There was talk about having a Gaelic Scando league few years back, but I guess geography put a stop to that. The Dutch and Belgium leagues will merge. Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway leagues should merge too, @Kay Age El your thoughts please?

They've discussed having 2 x 18 team leagues and 1 x 10 league before. But the problem is those in the SPL get 3 or 4 x Old Firm receipts per season (6-8 in total).

Changing to an 18 team league means that Gravy train is reduced significantly.

I thought that would be the reason. Calling it a farmers league is an insult to farmers leagues

Wading into a loaded topic here as a non-UK person, but its something I've always questioned - if the UK is a country, why isn't there a UK football team and rugby team? Why 4 different international teams? It's like the having Texas or California playing in international football rather than the USA.

Also, why do Swansea and Cardiff play in the English leagues, but Scottish teams don't?

Cricket too... Historically, each nation has competed on its own. There has been attempts from politicians most notably Tony Banks to have a British Team, but there is just too much history and animosity for that to happen.
However, Scottish team would love to compete in the English leagues

The UK isn't a country. Its a collection of countries. Much like Scandinavia.

It would be interesting to see Celtic and Rangers in the English (I know) leagues, the issue would be where to place them. And they'd obvs struggle at first until money forced them to the surface. But, it would be the death knell for the Scottish league, they'd end up like the Welsh league.
All said and done, I don't really care but a strong Old Firm in the Prem would be entertaining.
