Senna RIP

15 years ago today.

I remember that day, and the Saturday and Roland Ratzenberger as well. Massive loss, greatest ever racing driver.

RIP

Legend.

*edit*

Senna was the greatest wet racer I've ever seen. Nuts of steel.

15 years gone by already? Scary.
Remember the day very well.
My uncle and my Da (huge motorsport fans) were crying when the news broke.

My favourite ever racing driver.
My favourite Senna clip..... I'd like to see one of the new boys handle this.

Huge loss to the Sport. He would have Schumacher honest as well. I can remember eating my Sunday dinner in front of the TV and slowly lost my appetite when I realised what was happening.

Not my favourite driver ever, but a fantastic talent, one which should have gone on longer.

RIP.

I remember watching a programme a while back on Senna and why he was the best and they showed him doing various laps on different circuits and comparing his run to the other drivers, his unique driving style meant he was well ahead of the others. A remarkable driver tragically lost at a young age.

RIP Ayrton

I remember when he died. I was on an exit weekend from my boarding school in England and went up to visit my friend's family in manchester. When they started showing it on TV, I cried. I still have no idea why because I didn't like racing (and still really don't) but it just seemed like a 'huge loss' to the sport.

RIP

Probably the most naturally gifted driver ever. Not the best though.
I wasnt a Senna fan, Prost was my hero as a kid, but you had to admire his guts and raw talent. I dont think there has ever been a more instinctive driver.
Buuut the same as Fangio and Prost, he spent his career hoping from the best team to the best team, and thats why he isnt the greatest.
Sadly missed though.

In 1992 (maybe 1991) during a race Senna had lapped the rookie Eddie Irvine who had the temerity to un-lap himself, Senna saw this as such an afront that he punched him in the mouth at the end of the race.

Thats my favourite Senna story.

Sorry but I still think Alain Prost was better.

Senna's style is gung-ho, ultra aggressive, and going all flat out. Which unfortunately led to his death.

Prost's approach is more brains over brawn, calm, composed and equally lethal.

That said, Senna no doubt is still a legend.

I think hitting the wall contributed mainly to his death, followed by the failure of a steering column. I'd go as far as saying driving stlye had little to do with it.

The wal didn't kill him apparently, he got a pole through his head when the wheel but shattered.
[/quote]Yup. One of the wheel struts spiked his head. But Rouge is right, to say his driving style contributed to his death is not true.
Tamburelo is a flat out curve, every driver drove it the same. A failure of his equipment killed him, nothing else.

he hit the wall, then 3 things happened which killed him. The wheel came off, and smashed his head back into the bulkhead behind, causing death by fractured skull.

The wheel came off, and part of the suspension pierced the helmet just above the eye and that killed him.

I think the other one was that a shard of body work broke off and killed him.

Any one would have been fatal. Or all 3. If the wall wasn't there and it was a tyre barrier it might have been different.

Sadly, after rubens crash on the friday, and then ratz in qualy, he ironically put together the beginnings of the GPDA on race morning, to champion the safety of the drivers. He was the last to die in F1.

a true legend who im sure would have gone on to win more titles.
i was a huge prost fan myself but i would have loved to see how he would have matched up with schumacher during the mid nineties had he been alive

Er, wrong.

His steering column failed while he was entering a corner at enormous speed. Which unfortunately led to his death.

Rog doesn't like to let facts get in the way of his opinion.
