The Football Association has charged Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel with violent conduct following an incident towards the end of the 2-1 defeat by Manchester United on Sunday.
The Slovakian defender, 30, appeared to stamp on United goalkeeper David De Gea during injury time at Anfield.
Skrtel has until 18:00 GMT on Tuesday to respond.
Referee Martin Atkinson did not see the incident involving Skrtel and United keeper De Gea.
Referee Martin Atkinson did not see the incident but three former officials agreed it was a sending-off offence.
The trio made the decision after reviewing footage of the incident.
Unless Skrtel successfully appeals he will receive a three-match ban, ruling him out of Premier League matches at Arsenal (4 April) and at home to Newcastle (April 13), plus the FA Cup quarter-final replay at Blackburn on 8 April.
Captain Steven Gerrard will also miss those matches after his red card 38 seconds after coming on on Sunday.
