Was that a different sport we watched on Wednesday and Thursday night? If I was an Arsenal fan watching our game last night I'd have turned off.

Rafapologists, stand forward. Lucas Lovers, raise your hands.

OK, I was fortunate to get properly into footy in the early 80s as a kid, and had a season ticket when my best football memories were created by Dalglish, with a side that played football that would have had a go at Arselona for technique as well as fight.

We are so lucky to have that person back in charge at the club, but it's a long hard road out of hell. Years of unimaginative shite, that began under Hulahoops and became the norm under Rafa have turned us into George Graham's Arsenal while they've been turned into Dalglish's us.

I know you all will, but let's give him time - lots of it. I'm sure if he's given time and backing we'll have world class footy back at Anfield sooner rather than later. Last night just showed how far that goal still is. I've no doubt we could beat Arselona, but currently only be dragging them down to our level and hitting them with a bat. I don't want that, and I doubt the King does either.

4-4 versus Arsenal at Anfield 2 seasons ago under Rafa wasn't bad, we played better footy the Arsenal that day and at times that season our football was the best I have seen LFC play. It's true to say we didn't play it anywhere near enough but then it's also false to say we can't at times play better than Arsenal

The most annoying thing about that game was Masch's propensity for giving the ball away. A fact horribly overlooked by people who supported our methodology.

Cue comments like:

'Professional performance'
'Job well done'
'Tricky Eastern European tie and they were freezing'
'We were just as dire away from home back in the 80s'

I agree with your overall sentiment with regards to The King, but I'd like to add that some of my most fondest memories of European away games actually appeared under Rafa.

Back in the 70's actually

I was only beeing born back then so I'm excused here.

last night has got to be the most boring game I've ever seen in my life yet I couldn't turn over as I thought any time now something would happen...anytime...anytime now...something will happen...anytime now...

Kenny will get us playing the right way sooner rather than later. We're already making that transition.

Rafa has given us some of our best football in the last 20 years although not consistently enough.

Arsenal for all their beautiful football have won exactly what since the Houllier days?

Make no mistake, they play great football but haven't won a damn thing. Beating Barca didn't win them anything yet!

Yeah it was dire. But an available/fit Gerrard, Agger, Carroll and Suarez would have made the viewing a lot more appealing.

Indeed. Or even Pacheco, Coady, Raheem or Suso for that matter. They fielded a debutant in an 18-year-old. I guess we could've as well without risking that much.

We kept the ball and that was cool, other than that we have called for a tricky winger, and something up front for a while.

Ngog was isolated up top, and when the ball got to got to him he was muscled out of it and pushed off the ball, or a poor touch and the ball ran away from him. Again creating balls for him were Maxi and Kuyt, Lucas as much as he has improved recently was again just creating the pass there was little he could do about killer incisive pass due also partly to the movement in front of him.

There was very little pace in the side last night and that incisive passing around players in the box. It is a long road out of hell, I'm happy with our progress so far I hope it continues and I am still excited about the players we have now and the kinds of targets we are looking to buy in.

Arsenal did not beat Barcelona, Barcelona got bored fell asleep and conceded two late goals. Wilshere does indeed look tidy but he is not the second coming, and neither for that matter was Paul scholes the first coming.

Did i miss something? since fucking when was Scholes the most gifted midfielder of the last twenty years??? What?? really?? he is spiteful little ginger cunt.

Oh and Ryan Giggs was not a better player than Steven Gerrard two years ago either.

We played like shit yesterday and i suspect we are not that bothered about it becuase deep down its a fucking mickey mouse trophy in the first place and for this reason we had Ngog upfront and Joke hole playing. I am not in the least bit panicked nor arsed nor bothered to make a comparison with Spurs or Arsenal both of which have in fact won sweet fuck all in comparison to ourselves.

Ps Barca will fucking destroy them at the camp nou.

Yup.

I still think we're much more likely to go through from our tie than Arsenal are from theirs.

And while it may be a cliche, we really did play like that away from home in Europe back in the glory days.

truth is we went over to do a job, and did it but fucking hell...

Zzzzzz indeed. Couldn't be arsed watching the second half the outcome was fairly obvious. Flicked back to it now and again but nothing doing

Apparently once you score more times than the opposition in this game game called football you will be regarded as having beaten them. 😱

Of course they beat Barcelona.

But they didnt BEAT Barcelona with the silkygloriousfootballthatSkyiswankingaboutthatonlyWengercanproduceespeciallyincomparisonwiththeshittyfootballLiverpoolproduce

arsenal were worthy winners but I think it was a combination of;

a) barca playing a hard game at the weekend
can definately seeing resting the majority of their first team at the weekend

b) having a bad call by the ref with a goal that should have stood
barca with get more decisions on their home pitch with 70,000+ fans baying for blood

c) messi is a 'homer'
comes alive at the nou camp rather than away from home (as was the case last time)

but that said, arsenal were still worthy winners.

Messi missed 2 glorious chances that he would normally have put away without any trouble. Had Barca got to 2-0, Arse could easily have crumbled. They did well to hang in, but Arsenal certainly had their share of good fortune.

arsenal did indeed deserve to win i just feel having watched the match that if barca had not been quite so smuggly superior and had not gone to sleep then arsenal 2 unlikely goals probably would not have arrived, full credit to arsenal for tenacity but for my money us beating them in the camp nou is a whole level above. they got lucky. im also pretty sure that barca will exact hefty revenge.

Wolverhampton Wanderers came to Anfield about 8 weeks ago and beat us. Many here genuinely feared that we'd be relegated if something didn't happen immediately. We were (what?) 3 points out of the bottom three.

Now we're 6th. And we got a good result in a tricky away game in Eastern Europe.

And we're complaining about the performance, without Gerrard, Suarez and Agger.

all great points but how does that factor into the arsenal v barca game? 😉

Barca fucked it by bringing Villa off and putting Keida on.

All talk about Messi being a 'homer' is nonsense. Barca were far superior but then decided to settle for a draw. Arsenal managed to shift the momentum and got 2 deserved goals.

They 'decided to settle' for a 1-0 win, not a draw.

Yup.

I know there's a lot of posters on here who worship the snot rags Barca throw away but bloody hell we're a bit over the top on this one. Arsenal would consider themselves unlucky not to have had a couple before they did actually find the net - and rightly so. On another night Van Persie would almost certainly have netted one of his chances and, while Messi did miss one he would normally snaffle, they were well and truly worth their win. They went at Barca in a way few other teams in the world would dare - what's more they looked more dangerous than their so called "best team in history" opponents.

They may well get done in the Nou Camp and they wouldn't be the first but Wenger's team played some absolutely lovely football that wouldn't have been out of place in their invincibles year; what's more is they got two goals for it as well. Barca remind me of a comment made regarding an Australian cricketer that most of you probably know. Steve Waugh came out to bat against India and Tony Greig commented that "he's certainly got to be the number one all rounder in the world today". To which Ian Chappel replied "come off it - he's not even the best all rounder in his family". Barca can look like us from the 70's or 80's and Arsenal from a few years ago...... or they can look distinctly underwhelming. Let them play and they look scintilating but get at them, run them around and make them work - suddenly they look like the unattractive sister.

As for our play; there were a few games in both Rafa's and GH's reign which were even more turgid than this one - but very, very few of them. It was appalling.
