Sterling effort...

Enough speculating on which 40m player we'll get in to replace the unreplaceable, lets have a think about our very own 40m star-of-the-future - Raheem Sterling...

After a real breakout period earlier this year during which (for me) he was our standout performer in a title-challenging charge, he's gone on to firmly establish himself as an excellent player of the here-and-now, and potential worldwide star of the future.

His versatility across attacking positions and remarkable pace, strength and trickery, gives him a quite unique set of attributes amongst his peers. However, his finishing has much room for improvement and he's yet to really put a consistent season-long string of performances together (how could he at his age?)

So what are your expectations for our wonder kid this season? Which position is he likely to fill most of the time? What will we be saying about him this time next year?

He's going to be so good we don't miss Suarez, as long as the players around him don't let him down.

Don't wanna get hopes up too high, but he's probably already better than Suarez

Could easily score 20+ goals but he might get a freak injury and turn into Insua

Will be interesting to see. In one way most teams he faced last season were doing so for the first time so his pace/ accel would have been a shock to the system. He will come up against full backs/ defenders who he did so last year and they might be more prepared this time. On the other hand - his performances last season were beyond expectation and if he can even get close to that over a full season, and show it in the CL then I think it will really show what a talent we have on our hands.

My worry will be that we look for him too often as an out ball when defences are sitting deep and expect some magic as we always did with Suarez but hopefully we will have enough talent across the front that he will be able to find gaps.

He and Lazar are going to scare the shit out of defenders with their speed and close control. I worry that defenders will sit a little further back to stifle them this year, they couldn't afford to do that last year as we had Suarez who punishes teams who sit back, but without him here that worries gone, hopefully Lallana will help in that regard.

In Sterling, Markovic and Ibe have a player they can model their own game on. Be smart, apply yourself, fight for every ball, want every ball.

Imagine three Sterling-types bearing on you.

Does anyone think Rodgers pushed sterling in to the no 10 role because he knew Suarez would be gone this season, and that Coutinho is still a bit inconsistent?

I still wonder if Raheem will replace Suarez in the 1st team. Against Italy he looked good behind Danny.

I also think he was trying to win the league and that is where Sterling was causing massive issues to defenders.

You have to wonder about Lallana then, there's a good 4 or 5 options who can play in the hole position behind Sturridge.

Sterling was causing massive issues wherever he played

The move to make him a number 10 raised massive eyebrows

This season, Sterling played 33 league games (24 starts, 9 subs) and ended with 9 goals and 5 assists. I'm expecting him to play mostly left/right wide foward next season, and maybe play 34 league games (30 starts, 4 subs) returning 12 goals and 8 assists, which is close to Hazard's numbers last season.

No pressure!

I think it was just to try to outwit the opposition, really. Make them uncomfortable.

Sterling, Markovic, Coutinho, and Lallana are all versatile in where they can play behind and alongside the striker(s). That's what he's after.

I don't disagree in the slightest

It's just when he initially moved him to that area, no one expected it

I just hope the lack of Suarez - who seemed to have had an excellent on-field chemistry with him - doesn't affect him.

Ibe was played there against Shamrock Rovers as well. Seems that Rodgers wants his mobile forwards/attackers to be comfortable in that position.

Which, in a way, makes sense for the signing of Bony.

We are deffo over reliant on Sturridge though.

Im really happy with the Lallana signing.
But Markovic and Can I know little about and Lambert will do a job but as a viable starter?
Probably not.

Im also a bit peturbed that Johnson and Enrique look like they are going to keep their starting places after last seasons shitfest at Full Back.

Im happy enough with the middle of Skrtel, Sakho, Ilori, Agger, Toure and then Lucas, Gerrard, Can, Allen and Henderson
But those FB positions needed addressing last January and I hope Mr Rodgers has a plan.

Why would you think we aren't addressing left back? We've been linked with various ones non-stop and it's pretty much the consensus that Rodgers doesn't rate Enrique. We'll surely sign another striker, too.

Agree about Johnson.
