136.2 - Daniel Sturridge has a better Premier League mins-per-goal rate than Luis Suarez (138.8). Crucial.

On that basis he's averaged a goal every 1.5 games he's played in this league. Top ten since the premier league started... He's fucking boss. Just needs to stay fit.

Does anyone ( @King Binny) know whether that is his all time record or just Liverpool? Would be interesting to see what it is for just his time here.

Games like yesterday show the problems with Sturridge, upfront on his own he can be marked out of the game, however as soon as Lambert came on, he looked much much better, once we sign Reus, we should try to play 4-2-2 as much as possible to get the best out of Sturridge.

Pretty sure that's over his league career. Here's why:

Sturridge has scored 32 goals in 44 league games for us. Assuming he played the full 90 minutes in each game, that works out to be a goal every 123.75 min. However, we know for a fact he didn't always start or complete a game. So, his mins-per-goal stats are actually even better than that.

Since the number Woland posted is already poorer (136.2), I'd say it has to have taken into account his spell at one or more of his other clubs.

I don't think he was marked out of the game actually - his touch was just a bit poor and he went to ground a couple of times too easily when screening the ball. If you look at the clip on Manquillo, you'll see two of those occasions when Manquillo played a good ball inside to him only for his heavy touch to let the opportunity go a-begging.

Even on a bad day, he managed to have a telling impact. For the first goal, he pulled wide as he waited for Henderson to slip him a pass. He may not have planned for what happened later (or may have, who knows), but by doing so, he created the space and took a defender with him, giving Sterling the freedom to use his pace to burst into the final stretch. And of course, the second goal was just sneaky poacher's instincts.

Mentioned in the game thread at the end of the match that I loved his presence of mind and skills to keep the ball in the final minute of added time. Helped kill the game and calm some nerves.

I agree with that, he certainly seemed much less effective though.

The trouble with Sturridge being good enough to play anywhere across the front line is that someone has to be running in and poaching where you would want Sturridge to be. Sterling would do this anyway when we had Suarez. We need another runner into the box when Sturridge is out wide. Is Coutinho able enough to provide that? I'm not sure

That first guy in the list - George Allan - started really brightly. Unfortunately, he died from TB after his 3rd season with us.

His profile, courtesy of LFCHistory (http://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/521):

[article]"Dod" Allan, who was described as "a model centre; of fine physique, great speed and no fear," was Liverpool's first great goalscorer in the Football League and the first Liverpool player to be capped for Scotland on 3 April 1897. Allan's transfer to Liverpool was made under controversial circumstances as he had signed a contract with St Bernard's in Edinburgh as well. He was reported to the Scottish Football Association and on 14 October 1895 he was suspended till 30 November after which he was considered a bona fide Liverpool player. 5 ft. 10 ins. and 13 st. 6 lbs. (173 cm. and 86 kg.) Allan burst onto the scene in the 1895/96 season with a staggering 25 goals from only 20 League matches as the club won the Second Division and would have no doubt netted more if not for his eight-game suspension. He was Liverpool's top-scorer the following season with 17 goals from 34 games as Liverpool finished fifth in the First Division.

Allan moved to Celtic in May 1897 where he helped the club to its fourth championship by scoring 15 goals in 17 League games. Liverpool still held his registration, but paid quite happily £50 to get him back before the 1898/99 season in which Liverpool finished second in First Division with Allan scoring 11 goals in 36 games. Allan had played seven games in his second spell at Liverpool when he was involved in a colorful incident with Sheffield United’s goalkeeper, William "Fatty" Foulke, which gained legendary status. Foulke was over 20 st. (125 kg.) and very difficult to say the least to charge him off the ball or into the goal as was allowed to do to goalkeepers in those days.

'I don't mind what they call me as long as they don't call me late for my lunch', he once said. Foulke once took to swinging on the crossbar in mid-game which resulted in him breaking it in two and on another occasion charged around butt-naked after a match searching for the referee to protest a controversial equaliser. The scene is set for 29 October 1898 when Liverpool and then League champions Sheffield United were playing at Anfield. Unlike his contemporaries Allan was not afraid of "Fatty" and it was reported that "Allan charged Foulke in the goalmouth, and the big man, losing his temper, seized him by the leg and turned him upside down." The referee wasn't too keen on Foulke's reaction and awarded Liverpool a penalty, from which Andy McCowie scored. Liverpool won the game 2-1, with none other than Allan scoring the other goal for Liverpool.

Prior to the 1899/00 season it was reported that Allan was too ill for training. In September 1899 manager Tom Watson admitted full of sorrow: “Diseased lungs are not cured in a day. Allan’s absence is now beginning to be felt, and we are able to estimate him at his worth. Poor old George!” Allan died of tuberculosis in Earlsbury, Fife, when he was only 24-years-old on 17 October 1899[/article]

And if someone finds him making that run will he be able to finish once service is provided?

Also, I think prior to this season, Sturridge had 9 goals in 9 in league games for LFC when Suarez didn't play.
- 5 goals in 4 games to end 2012/13 (3 goals against Fulham, 2 against Newcastle)
- 4 goals in 5 games to start 2013/14 (1 goal against every team bar Southampton)

His goal in this season's opener makes it 10 goals in 10 league games.

I'm quite impressed with Suarez 21 goals in 50 games considering that he had the likes of Adam, Downing, Carroll and Henderwank* to work with.
* Henderson during his first two seasons.

His first 6 months were with Kuyt, Maxi and Raul. He had a clear mental block with regards to Finishing when he first came to us.

Suarez's 31 goals brought Liverpool 16 points in 2013-14, compared to 20 points from 21 goals for Sturridge, more than any other player in the league.

There must be something wrong with me (racism probably) because I just don't see him being in the same class as any of these players.
