What do we need to buy to get this team capable of winning major trophies, I don't think we're that far away. In my opinion, going forwards, we could beat absolutely any team put infront of us. Look at the first half the other night, that sort of performance would have broken down anyone really, and we have all the right sort of players in place in my opinion (I don't think we need another striker).

Our problem for me is that the back 5 are mostly useless, and unprotected by the midfield, and the second we have to do any defending vs any team at any level, we fall apart at the seams.

I think, with Keita coming in next summer, 'all' we are short of is a back 5.

Would this team be good enough to win the league/champions league?

.................New
New....New.....New...New
..........Anyone...Keita
...............Coutinho
Salah.....Firmino...Mane

We me it wouldn't really matter who played next to Keita and Coutinho (from the existing squad), but I can't see, how with a whole new back 5 of decent players, that that team isn't good enough to beat anyone put infront of them. So buy 5 new players in the next 2 windows, keep the existing squad, and we're good to go?

Next 2 windows is what Klopp has got to fix the defence or hes gone as far as I can see. The 'its not his team' shit is not going to wash anymore

Leon King - and then our midfield may be sorted.

RB - I'm happy with Gomez/TAA/Clyne.

LB - I'd like someone here who's better than Moreno.

CB - 2 please.

That assumes we will be going into next season with Salah, Mane and Cuntino. We'll be down at least one of them.

Why have you got to make depressing topics like this? Why can't we talk about fun things like the refugee crisis or child poverty?

Midfielder and a centreback have to be the top priorities. After that there are plenty of positions we could do better in (keeper, leftback, another striker) but that's where I start.

I thought the Keita was going to be the DM, so I'm not sure we need one of those for the midfield? I think that'll be strong enough as it is with the rat+keita, and one other from the existing squad.
And I'm still in the we dont need any more forwards camp.
It's purely just a brand new back 4 and keeper for me, and then I think that team is good enough to beat anyone.

I want the usual. Keeper, defenders, midfielder and an extra striker.

I'd like a midfielder who can help kill a game, a midfielder who has the ability to control the tempo of the game. We seem to have a set of midfielders who just go along with whatever is happening in front of them. There is no real element of control when we are put under pressure. It's like your house being on fire but instead of trying to take measures to put out the flames you either run around the house screaming FIRE in blind panic or hide in the press hoping it will stop burning.

Rumours we've been offered Mascherano. Yes please. A winner. Tough, streetwise, positionally aware, experienced, hates to lose, would be a great influence on younger players around him and isn't a massive quid when put under pressure.

Goalkeeper
Unless Robertson is solid defensively a LB.
A Centre Back or two.
And at least one midfielder.

Goalkeeper obviously. I actually like Matip and think even the best CB's in the world would struggle to look good with Moreno, Lovren, a dodgy keeper and no protection from the midfield.........so Van Dijk and a proper left back please.

Obviously Keita will be a great addition but I hope we are keeping an eye on Doucoure of Watford, if we could get him for £25m-£30m he reminds me of Viera. Doucoure and Keita IMO would be an awesome CM.

................................................Oblak...........................................
Alex-Arn.....................Matip................Van Dijk....................Sessegnon
....................................Keita.............Doucoure.......................
..............Salah.......................Lemar..................Mane
............................................Brewster/Solanke............................

Also available; Lallana, Gomez, Firmino, Ox-Chamberlain, Hendo, Wijnaldum, Woodburn, Lovren

Given that we have spent fuck-all over the last 5 years.............if we sell Coutinho for £150m, Sturridge for £20m, Ojo, Ings, Moreno etc for another £20m, we can raise £200m.

Van Dijk £60m
Oblak £40m
Doucoure £25m
Sessegnon (Fulham) £40m
Lemar £90m

So for £55m outlay we can actually field a team who might actually challenge for the title.

Even if we do bring in X, Y, Z player, it will do no good if we cannot find a way to shed this fragile, heads down and surrender mentally that has dogged the first team and the club in general for a few years now.

The team needs a new 'spine', mentally. In my opinion, that starts with indentifying a new captain.

I have come to the conclusion that above all else we need a dominant, organizing keeper.
One that would remedy much of our vulnerability at setpieces.
The clowns we have masquerading as goalkeepers would make the best defenders in the world jittery.
Oblak seems to be the best option but realistically I don't see him coming here unless we make him the best paid keeper in world football and pay a record fee for a goalie.
Even then that probably still isn't enough.

Cuntino's going, so that's that. Get 2 new midfielders with Keita, including a ball-busting defensive headcase, like Kante was/is, and see how things go.
I reckon we'd be sorted.
Yes, it would be nice to have Harry Kane, ain't going to happen. And I don't want to spend 70M on VVD to be as exposed and shite as the cunts we have now. Concentrate on midfield.

Word on the street is we're in for Draxler on loan in Jan. I don't know much about him other than I thought he was a winger. Thoughts?

Hello January 2018 transfer window, meet Summer 2017, January 2017, Summer 2016 transfer windows. I think you have a lot in common.

I think it should be our top priority too.

There was a moment in the Sevilla game when a high ball was played over and Karius got his fists onto whilst going through the oncoming striker. Mignolet would have been trying to avoid contact and would risk fucking that up.

Karius is thoroughly average but it highlighted a big problem Mignolet has IMHO.

Problem is there's apparently only one better CB in the world than our bunch.

Not buying a CB this summer is by far the most Bizarre decision I've ever witnessed as a LFC supoorter in my life

I see Chiellini's contract runs out next year.
I wonder if he would fancy one last challenge.

As said in the other thread, it's hard to see Klopp bring in a new #1 unless his hand is really forced. And he doesn't seem to want an out and out DM either.

So with that in mind...

1. A defender who can organize and lead at the back would make a huge difference. Much like Kompany has done for City in recent years. Big ask though.

2. A first choice partner for Keita. I actually like all our midfielders individually but as a group they've shown they can't be relied upon over the course of the season. A solid partnership in the middle of the park would hopefully ease some of the pressure on the defence and give the attack the platform to do what they need to do.

3. Resolve the Coutinho situation. I'm not sure the move into midfield has completely worked (yet). Sometimes he's very effective but it's not right for every type of game (as the second half against Sevilla showed). He'll likely leave at the end of the season anyways and then we need to consider how we replace him. Even if a like for like replacement is possible, is it the best solution?

4. A striker. Firmino is a Klopp favourite, we all know that, but we need another genuine contender for that position. Maybe Klopp does actually rate his other striking options but I don't really get that impression.
