US Election thread - Kamala v Donald

This is worrying for all sorts of reasons. It's a new version of book burning, data deletion.

The CDC’s official public portal for health data, data.cdc.gov, was taken down entirely on Friday but went back up over the weekend, albeit with a yellow ribbon at the top saying: “CDC’s website is being modified to comply with President Trump’s Executive Orders.” The agency’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey data was restored too, but with at least one of the gender columns missing and its data documentation removed.

Mexican response to Trump & USAID:

This is after the previous Mexican president demanded the same in August:

Both these presidents are left wing - and yet, both wanted USAID out of Mexico ...

But Trump said he wasn’t going to implement Project 2025 and that any talk of moving towards a dictatorship was hysteria?! For those that believed that, I wonder if we are at the next stage of ‘there was always going to be bumps’ or ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’.

Really interesting discussion on charity and how it's done.

I think there's a huge amount of truth in this and it's really interesting to hear a former MP and former sec of state for international developement.
The relevant bit from about 51 mins.

I'm sure there are some positives but the mental things being discussed should make people shout and scream

Spoke with an American guy last week who talked about Trump signing executive orders.
Some are not worth the paper because they won't pass any legal scrutiny and that's kinda the point most of the time for Trump.

Take it to court and see what happens, what loopholes can be exploited and also what kinda concessions that could be made.

Maybe that's his plan with Gaza, if he has one. Say we'll take over and see what kinda action that encourages people to take.

He's also signed an exec order sanctioning the ICC for going after war criminals to happen to be American allies.

The double standards and hypocrisy plain for the world to see and nothing will happen.

USAID stuff is interesting though.
Saw something about the millions given to news orgs around the world.

international law any semblance of the past 'soft powers' are failing.
