£10M's a steal - didn't they pay £18M?

I like you Squiggles, I find myself agreeing with you loads in FF.

Surely we've got £10million? WE can work out some deal, don't Spurs still owe us some money for Keane?

The same Bent who said he would score 25+ goals last season?
how many did he score?
He probably would have if he was given enough games.
Well he should have had 'season total' + 1 but he missed that sitter against Pompey ... He had a lot of chances at the beginning of the season (rememeber, no robbie, no defoe and only pava) ... and he just wasn't good enough.

Wiz, do you remember how pathetic Spurs were at the start of the season? No one was scoring in that team.

Fuck Bent. He should go play regular football somewhere and get some confidence back because he looked piss poor a few times last season.

Mancs are after Aguero, interesting.

Bent strikes me as the sort of player that needs (and wants) to play regularly.

He'd be a good signing for Everton.

Especially in a World Cup year.

Our chances are slim-ish, but the appeal of the top-four is alluring to any footballer so y'never know.

Agree with the Everton connection; he'd slot right into their system

which is why he wouldn't come here and why we wouldn't move for him.

Sounds like Babel.

To whoever defended him by saying he wasn't scoring at the start of the season because the rest of spurs were shit, surely that's when you want him to score?

We don't need a striker who can only score when you're 3-0 up.

Any English player who sign for a top four team makes the England squad.

Please note Walcott and Crouch.

FACTALICIOUS.

Re: Wednesday's Gossip: Bent £10million

That's a harsh criticism.

Only players of Torres' class could've continued scoring goals in that Spurs side, they were a complete joke.

You seem to forget that Bent single-handedly fired a very average Charlton side into the top 7 of the Premiership, only for them to crash and burn after he (and Curbishley) left.

The performance of the team and the performance of the strikers are intrinsically linked. It's not coincidence that Torres is always full of praise for players like Dirk, Gerrard & Yossi.

No striker, even Torres, is gonna score if your team can't get hold of the ball and play the striker into the game.

All strikers need service.

Why did Crouch leave then?

Because he wasn't playing at all, I don't think it had anything to do with him being/not being in the England squad.

Like I said yesterday, Bent's far more flexible than Crouch and *could* also play in the Kuyt and Reira role.

Of course, I don't know the specific reasons Crouch left, he wouldn't tell me.

each to their own but if we picked up bent for 10m I'd be very happy. currently we are banking on torres remaining injury free all season...hmm...

Re: Wednesday's Gossip: Bent £10million

Why did Crouch leave then?

'Cos we signed Fernando...

It's unlikely Crouch would have been given his England opportunity were he not playing and scoring for a top 4 club.

Because Torres is still here, Bent would rightly have reservations. It'd be a big risk for him - but he's still reasonably young and would have his suitors even if the move didn't work out, and it could be his last chance to play for a top-four side. Also if the £10M figure is accurate, his price is the lowest it'll ever be, therefore we wouldn't take a financial hit (like Keane) if he wanted to leave.

I don't think Bent could play out-wide, but when given the chance he could play so well that we adapt to 4-4-2 against some opposition - as we've seen at Chelsea with Drogba and Anelka.

The only reason you're saying Bent is more flexible is because he is pacey. What else is there to his game that makes you think he'd be a good option out wide?

Crouch stated that he wasn't playing enough and that he wanted to make sure he kept his place in the England side.

Bent has complained that he isn't playing enough at Spurs or wants to play more. It's WC year and he's English.

If Torres stays fit, Bent is going to have the same problems as Crouch - copping a lot of bench time.

Most strikers, particularly those who are pacier can be effective playing wide, like Henry, Eto, Cisse even Torres at times for Spain has played wider. I'm sure Bent could too.

I'm not in favour of moving away from 4231.

Again, Bent is far more flexible and versatile as a player than Crouch, so I think he would be utilised more so than Crouch was. Crouch only gives you one option.

Like I said, I think Bent could do a job playing in the Riera or Kuyt role, you don't: fine.

I'd be happy enough if we got Bent for £10m. We need a fast back-up striker and he fits the bill. The priority is still a LW, though, as I don't see Bent having the abilities to fill that role at all.

Not sure if he'd rather be a sub for us and win stuff or play every week for Sunderland and fight relegation. He's surely bound to leave Spurs, though, as he has the worst of both worlds there.
