FABIO AURELIO: The player is set to hit the big time

FABIO AURELIO looks set to miss the start of the season for Liverpool after damaging his knee playing football with his children.

Brazilian left-back Aurelio, 29, is now facing the prospect of surgery and several months on the sidelines in a move that could impact upon the future of Andrea Dossena.

Aurelio’s spell at Anfield has been scarred by a succession of injury problems.

Defender Aurelio, who is entering the final year of his contract, is understood to have twisted a knee playing with son, Fabio jnr, and daughter Victoria.

The latest setback is a blow for manager Rafa Benitez who must now evaluate whether he can afford to lose Dossena, who has been courted by Juventus.

Italy international Dossena and Argentinian Emiliano Insua are the only other recognised left-backs at Anfield.

Simple, sell Dossena and play Insua.

And keep Arbeloa as well.

fking lol

we should stick him in the freezer and thaw him out on matchdays

maybe we should sign him son looks like he may have a decent tackle on him... no pedo pun intended

Nice.

On a positive note, this presents Insua with a great chance to develop more with some serious game time. It's exactly what he needs at his age to really kick on from a promising start. I'm sure Johnson would agree.

Insua should be first choice and we should fuck the two clowns off and get cover for him.

He's the new Kewell.

That guy is made of glass. If only he were made of sterner stuff, we'd have a cracking set of left backs in him and Insua.

His injury record though shows you just cant rely on him. Dossena needs sacking off regardless.

The question is, is Insua ready to be a first team regular?

Good player but is he worth sticking with if he is always injured?

We need someone long term who can copmpete with Insua.

If we see Insua as a first team starter for the long-term, it's not so bad. Aurelio being 30 this year and a little on the, shall we say, fragile side of things will give Insua plenty of game time to progress.

Of course, if we don't or if we simply reckon he's not ready for that kind of responsibility yet, it would be nice to have a player we can depend on. The problem is that we already spent that money on the useless Dossena. Time will tell whether we'll get it back or not.

Insua will do the job. He is not as good as Aurelio, but good enough to be a starter. Also he has great potential, and I predict he will be our first choice left back for many years to come.

have heardl ots of good things, but the lad is still only 16/17

I've been saying for a while the fragility of the LB position seems to be slipping under the radar of 6CM. There's 3 players there but none for sure that we can rely upon, and one I'm 99% certain we can not.

Make no mistake about it, Dossena is probably the only player in the squad who has the potential to ruin our title-challenge. He's fucking terrible, and the sooner Benitez rids us this clown the better, regardless of Aurelio's injury status.

Hopefully Benitez we'll see we need to pick up an experienced LB for £3-4M, which won't be easy but certainly not impossible.

I don't particularly agree with those that say he is a better player than Insua. He may be a better in some respects (at the moment), but Insua is a far more acomplished left back , even at his tender years than Fabio, like he can defend.
Fabio demonstrated last season he is a more than capable midfield player, but he is a liability from a reliability perspective.

harsh stuff vlad. Last year Fabio proved that he was a very good left back, the best at the club. Insua might go on to become better but Fabio is the better left back at the moment, he brings a lot to the team in terms of compsure and passing.

There were times last year when Aurelio was the best LB in the league.

Some of the 'he can't defend', 'should be a midfielder' criticism he recieves is outdated, because by and large all best performances have come from LB.

I will say that even when fit his performances fluctuate dramatically, and on his off days he's positionally suspect and lacks the pace to recover, and then there is the whole question of injuries. But he has some great qualities which often get overlooked on here.

I don't think Aurelio is anywhere near a great left-back or best in the League status, he's a decent player who looks better coz he plays in a good side. There are loads of those about e.g. Fletcher, O'Shea, Ferreira, Diaby etc.

Fabio is probably one of the best in the PL in his position. The only reason he has not been selected for the main Brazil team as their first choice left-back is because they know that he will not be able to play enough games to establish himself in that position - why ? - because they know about him being consistently injured for long periods. Thats why they don't take that risk with him. Other than that the South American football expert Tim Vickery has always stated that Fabio is the most complete left-back in Brazillian football. I think last season he had a very good season for us.

MORON

Yes, but way, way too soon. I rate him as our best prospect.
