Every Darwin Nunez Shot for Liverpool till date (9 Feb 2023)

[article]This unbiased video provides the viewer with every single Darwin Núñez shot/shot on target/header for Liverpool, hence, allowing said viewer to come to his own conclusions towards the infamous Nunez finishing ability question.[/article]

I still have no idea if he will come good. Some of those misses were comically bad, others unlucky, some great defending or keeping. He should be practicing his finishing for at least an extra hour every single day until he stops snatching at chances.

Despite being absurdly poor at putting the ball in the net, he is absolute danger every time the ball comes to him. If he can somehow learn to become even an average finisher he will be up there with the most potent strikers we`ve ever had.

Yup, can’t answer anything other than unsure. He has every physical attribute you could possibly want in a striker but he looks like he’s using someone else’s feet. If the finishing clicks he’s destined for the top but there’s every possibility he remains inconsistent at best.

I'm optimistic.

I think things will click for him at some point in a year or two. Nunez exploded into life in his second season at Benfica, and Klopp transformed Lewa at Dortmund into the most clinical striker the game has seen in 20 years.

It sounds ridiculous saying this about a striker, but ignore his finishing and he's currently the best playmaker in the side. He makes shit happen in a heavily dysfunctional, disjointed side. That's to his credit in terms of his work rate, desire and commitment.

We need to provide with better service from the wider areas. His heading and close range finishing is reasonable. He's suffering a bit, among other things, from Robertson and Trent failing to provide those clear opportunities.

Same here. I selected Unsure. But I really hope he comes good as if not, we are screwed for the remainder of the Klopp era unless we find like a great attacker for less than 10 million or something.

I've no idea.

I like the fact that he's pacey and a bit edgy but that's about it as things stand.

We are coming into a season where the under investment is really showing.
If Klopp gets the reported £250-£300m and manages to strengthen the MF, we will see a very different Nunez and Gakpo.

Oh yes. Besides Ali, he's easily been our best player this season. Which says a lot about the state of our team at the moment but, regardless, he is making an impact practically every match. Just isn't translating into goals for his stats page or points on the table for us.

And his goal return isn't awful really, just less than he should have given the chances he's created or been on the end of.

He already is good.

You need a clearer definition of ‘come good’

Deliver results (goals and/or assists) that justify his transfer fee and move us up in the table. He's not done that at all, despite great work ethic and decent underlying performances. Jury is definitely still out.

I think the thread title should be slightly modified @King Binny. More than "Will Nunez come good?". It should be "Will Nunez justify the price tag?". If he was bought for 30 million, there would have been no complaints against him. He is pacy, physical, goal threat. Not a bad signing, until you bring the price tag into the picture.

Yeah, sorry, the question wasn't worded appropriately. I can't seem to change the title, can any admin kindly help? Thank you!

Oh my god first gakpo and now Nunez.
Whatever happened to giving players a chance….

Sorry for any misunderstanding, this was just meant to be a pure discussion/opinion thread rather than a bashing one (thus included the quote from the video creater in the initial post). I came across this video of all his shots and thought it's a much "fairer" compilation as opposed to "goals/assist only" or "misses only" ones.

Every knows what the definition is. He might have an impact and his qualities might be obvious, we also could have won games if he'd put some of those chances away. Everyone knows the "definition", it's not rocket science. He was brought in to score goals and improve the team. He hasn't, so far.

Yes. This season is just like his first at Benfica. His comments regarding what Klopp wants him to work on and what they focus on sounds promising.
Next season will be his season and then he'll grow with the team going forward.

The focus on missed chances, xG and video comps from rival fans is doing my head in btw. I'd love for his sake that he can shut them all up in the future.

I put unsure... but honestly, I'm leaning towards no as far as leading the line. The offsides thing just shows how little he has between the ears... I think that is a pre-requisite to becoming a huge success in a Klopp team... He's too stupid to really get all the complex things we want to do... Its just also the most disheartening thing in the world when you have to check if the forward is onside before playing a ball because they are caught so often.

Now he might start scoring a lot of goals... but he probably won't lead the line for a team that tops the table and conquers all of Europe.

Honestly no. For the simple reason his technique is not that of a world class player. That's not some aberration, we were warned about it by multiple scouting reports prior to him signing and that was in a league that's a significantly lower standard.

If he hits a purple patch and does good numbers next year we should sell.

He needs to improve his finishing and decision making in the final third - which means he needs to score more.

5 from 15 is ok but he’s a couple of goals short of where we need him to be.

At the minute he’s scored less than Bobby, scoring at the same rate as Salah in his worst season ever, similar return to Diaz and a lower return than Jota.

That’s where he is in the bigger scheme of things.

He’s got this season and next - if he’s not monstering the league by this time next year then he’s absolutely the sort of player we should be fucking off at the first time a decent offer comes in.

Gakpo is in the same boat as far as I’m concerned.

Seems to play his best football with Diaz and Tsimikas on field
