Arsenal post match

Just seen the highlights but to be honest this game could have been like the way it turned out or it could have been a case of two teams drawing and making stupid mistakes. But one thing we should always expect with Arsenal is that we will always get chances and changes we got today. So I hate to put a downer on the celebrations but I would not read too much into the performance today.

The games we should read more into are the ones against the teams we expect usually to be at mid table and relegation fodder. It's how the team performs against them from week to week that will give us a clearer view of where we are going and have we overcome the parked busses. Today - there was no bus - and if Arsenal were attempting to park a bus - then clearly the bus doors were open and the windows were smashed up.

It could be that with Coutinho not being an option - we have the hard men in midfield more regularly in Can, Henderson, and Gini, with Firminio helping out too, so going forward the defense may improve with what we have (ingoring the watford result for now).

Just so we're clear; you didn't watch the game but have picked up on the highlights, and are telling us that not only should we not read too much into the performance but also that it could have been a game we drew?

Genuinely, who do you think is interested in reading the shite you are spewing out?

Sorry for the delay in putting up my ratings. I forgot/ was busy/ etc.

Anyway, no point in waxing lyrical about the display - we've done it to death and we were as ace as Arsenal were abject.

Karius (5) A clean sheet, so that's a positive. Little else was hugely encouraging, he dealt with one dangerous cross well, and was left exposed with a chance the ever-hapless Welbeck fucked up, but that was all really. What was most concerning is that the jittery fuck still seems determined to make one or two cataclysmic fuck-ups per game. He dithered twice with the ball at his feet, and that got the crowd on his back. Can ANYONE explain to me why Klopp played Karius and dropped Mignolet for one game? Bizarre.

Gomez (8) Well done indeed. Gomez has looked very composed at times, and at others clumsy and sloppy. This was a display that has perhaps moved Gomez into proper first-team regular. It's very congested at full-back with TAA, Moreno, Milner, Clyne and Robertson all possible starters, but Gomez looked quick, assured and powerful. Blocks, tackles and also contributed to two goals.

Matip (7) Classy performance, and even managed to win a few aerial duels with that 50p head. Arsenal found him very hard to get past.

Lovren (7) Good passing, stepped forawrd with the ball when he had space and time, and had an enjoyably bruising battle with Welbeck, who is a physical challenge for any defender with his workrate, strength and pace. Although he couldn't hit a bull's arse with a fucking shovel. Anyway, good stuff Dejan.

Moreno (7) Great work ethic and pace as Moreno blasted up and down the left almost non-stop. There was one "Moreno moment" in the box, but he was otherwise impressive and made several good challenges.

Henderson (7) Another solid, impressive game as Henderson provided a solid foundation for the team. He broke up play well and was disciplined in his positioning as he totally eclipsed Ramsey and Xhaka.

Can (8) Another thumping display from the in-form German. He barrelled around the pitch and was utterly dominant, smashing into tackles and using the ball very well in attack. Looks a real force of nature when at his best like this game.

Wijnaldum (8) Another who had a slow start to the season, but has been excellent in his last two games. Battled well and used brains and brawn to pulverise Arsenal and leave their midfield in smoking ruins by half-time.

Mane (9) Another game, another goal, another almost unplayable display. A constant threat with his pace and control, Mane is brutally economic with what he does on and off the ball; there's no show-boating or trickery for its own sake, everything Mane does on the pitch is designed to damage and hurt the opposition.

Firmino (8) Involved in almost everything we did well, his movement and use of the ball was superb, and Arsenal couldn't do anything to control him or lessen his influence. Scored again, which is great to see and seems to really enjoy playing with the two speedy wingers either side of him.

Salah (9) Scored one, and made another. He doesn't seem as clinical in his play as Mane, missing a couple of very good chances, but he kept on making sprints and his speed around the pitch is remarkable. That was illustrated perfectly for his goal, charging down a dreadful clearance from the hapless Bellerin, and then racing 3/4 of the pitch to calmly slot the ball past Cech.

Excellent summary. The only thing I'd add is something which I'm surprised nobody's commented on yet - Bellerin himself is very, very rapid (even quicker than Walcott) but made zero impression on Salah during that chase. Run like an Egyptian?

Partly down to Mane's block run innit?

My only theory is Ming conceded 5 in two games. Last season when he was dropped he came back right on it. A kick up the arse maybe? A bigger question for me is why don't we spend a chunk of money on a keeper that would make us real title challengers.

@Grjt2 - clearly you are interested otherwise you would not have specifically replied to my post.

I heard the whole game on the radio, and watched the highlights in the evening. Yes we did dominate the game, but that was always a possibility with Arsenal's record against top sides in the early part of the season. In any case my view on this game is identical to that of John Barnes - this was not a defining game that showed how excellent we are as a team. Klopp has proven already in the time he has been here that his tactics and setup work wonders against the big teams in this league who also want to attack us and try to win. There are probably just 3 to 4 teams who will play against us like that in the season - our abject failure is our performances against the teams that just sit back and defend.

If we can get convincing results against those other 15 odd (mid to lower league) teams in the league then we have made a serous improvement from last season on the assumption that we still maintain a good record against the top teams. My advice to everyone is to appreciate the win and the effort put in by the players - but don't get too carried away - its Arsenal. To be honest I wish Arsenal had tried a little harder against us and the score was like 2-0 or 1-0 to us, now they have a serious game to settle with us when we visit the Emirates - and if they are all up for it - don't be surprised if we end up losing 4-0.

See, what I love about moron is that quite often (OK, sometimes) there is, amongst all of the honking insanity, a kernel of truth or hint of a valid point trying to get out.

Of course, to get to it, you have to dismantle his posts with all the technique, care and patience of a bomb disposal expert, except moron's bombs are packed with human excrement instead of shrapnel.
