Did we have a plan for life after Suarez?

Did we? Do we?

It doesn't really look like we were prepared does it?, i was never convinced we were going to sell him this summer if all had been normal and what has happened since his departure hasn't changed those thoughts.

If we knew all along we were going to sell him this summer then what is going on? why don't we seem to have any real targets yet?

The thing is regardless of the owners wanting to sell him or not this summer there should have been some sort of plan in place as to what would happen if he did leave as it was always a possibility, although there is no-one that can directly replace him surely at the bare minimum there were some attacking players earmarked? even if it was just incase.

Rodgers has said Markovic was on his way anyway and wasn't anything to do with Suarez leaving, put a line through Lambert as obviously he is nothing to do with it, Remy looked like an option that was thought of after Suarez left.

We tried and failed to get Sanchez, that is the only genuine attempt at solving the problem as far as i can see and if that was part of a pre thought-out plan then it was a piss poor planning, it doesn't look like it was part of any plan but an obvious opportunity at salvaging something good from a shit situation, fair play we tried, we had to try but it didn't work, what now?, we are still waiting.

Can't help but think we were not going to sell him, my guess is the owners thought if there were anymore acts of madness then he's gone and that's what happened, no-one really knows that exact ins and outs of his contract and that clause, tbh none of that really matters now but what does matter is trying to fill the giant hole he left and from evidence so far we look clueless on how to fill it.

I agree imo we didn't plan for it in any way, it looks like exactly what you said - the club were confident he'd stay but then he bit someone and fucked it all up. If we knew I think there are certain players we would've shown a stronger interest in early in the window, as it stands it looks like we'll end the transfer window with money in our pockets and flaws in the squad.

Sanchez was so convenient, such a shame it didn't happen.

Formation-wise, I think Brodge is comfortable yeah.

The diamond midfield 4-4-2 thing was only ever shoe-horned in to accomodate Suarez and Studge anyway, so now that Suarez has gone we'll never see that thing again. Back to 4-3-3 and versions of it, which has always been Brodge's preference.

So, that means he needs goals coming from across the front 3, and the advanced 1 (or 2) from the midfield 3. Hence buying, Markovic, Lallana, etc - guys that can get goals from wide and attacking mid.

Doesn't help to lose a player as good as Suarez was/is, but if Brodge can get the right players to add to his preferred formation, then I don't think it's the end of the world.

Lallana i see more of central player for us (next to Henderson) who can play wider further forward if needed, might be wrong on that and he'll play wider more often, as it stands he probably will by the looks of it as we are thinner there than in the middle, just think a creative 2 footed player like him would be more productive and helpful in the middle for us, suppose we will soon find out what's what with him.

Was he bought with Suarez leaving in mind? he probably is the only player that a case could be made for though im skeptical.

Henry has said that 'the timing was right' meaning they were happy to accept his buyout clause after he went AWOL again.
As far as replacing him is concerned the club may have had more targets, and for all we know have approached them already and been rebuffed, sometimes it's tough coming from a small city in the North of England and this would explain targeting England - based players and up and coming 'stars'.

Agreed, surely we would have been after targets earlier, was Suarez going to do his summer break after the WC and then leave? what would have happened if Uruguay went deep again?, the shirts sold with his name on for next season could be argued as sign he was staying, its a shitty trick if the owners knew he was going all along and still sold them.

Hope that last bit doesn't happen but it is looking that way.

we may not have thought he was off this summer but he always did , it was obvious he would jump ship if Barca or Real came in for him and that one probably would .

we've spent all the money we got for him (and a bit more) but i honestly don't think the team is stronger , well the squad is but the strongest 11 which you would expect in the big games isn't .

I think Rodgers has got one eye on Sterling stepping up. Then you've got an exciting trio of Ibe, Coutinho and Markovic who can step into the front three. I think that's why he's not looking to an expensive fix so much and why a cheap Remy was ideal, rather than tying himself to a longterm, big deal for the sake of it.

Maybe you are jumping the gun here?

How do we know Brendan doesn't have real targets lined up? maybe the bigger transfers are more of a waiting game in order to reduce the price? I think also Utd having a lot of cash is why we are waiting aswell, we will probably be looking at the same players I suspect.

I'd wait til the last few weeks of August before starting to panic....

I'm pretty excited about the players we've brought in.

Window isn't closed yet. BR could still shock us with a mega signing. The squad is significantly stronger but any first team without Suarez will be weaker. Lets wait and see.

Scummers and the likes are waiting for that fall from grace because Liverpool is a ONE man team.

We've got plenty of speed, plenty of skill, but still we need some physical tenacity up front. Think of the number of times we started attacks when Suarez pressed and robbed a defender on either flank, or out-muscled a centre back and made him lose possession. We need a player to do that in the key areas. Sterling can do it to some extent but he'll have to improve a lot and also be quite a bit craftier in the process, and I think we have to get another forward no matter what. If Sturridge doesn't get crocked playing more games for us he'll probably be crocked playing for Hodgson's England, so it's crucial we strengthen. I just hope the air of contentedness that's coming out of the camp is just a ruse while they get on with the job of getting a new player, because it would be criminal to go into the season with the squad we have.

Well, I didn't see last seasons performance coming so I've no idea how so many on here seem to be pessimistic. Seems like that old 'low expectation' comfort blanket is being utilized again. Seriously, some LFC fans have become neurotic.

I see that we have a young, clever coach who often espouses 'team' over 'individual' and tactics, fitness and substitutions over mercurial talents. I think it's an exciting time both for us and the Premier League, there are now 5 or 6 possible winners and I think we can be confident enough to take our place in that elite group.

I don't think we'll be blown off course by one individual leaving. I think his legacy will make the remainder mentally stronger.

Lavezzi?
Nah.

We need a proper forward.
Sturridge has shown that he cant stay fit for a whole season, we need someone as good as him. That should be the minimum expectation.

We'd done very well in this transfer window until Remy, and by all accounts, looked certain to add a couple more.

The Remy deal was a bit of bad luck, but we can't afford to sit around and throw our hands up in the air. All the work that has gone over the last 2 years in getting us in the position we are today will be undone if we slip out of the top 4 this year.

Arsenal and United have strengthened majorly, and Spurs will probably fare better under Pochettino.

We need to add at least 3 more top quality players. I hope we are exploring options aggressively.

Our net spend so far is only 4 million. With CL money coming in, it'd be unacceptable to not have that figure somewhere around 40-50 million.

United have hardly strengthened majorly yet, Herrera for Cleverly and Shaw for Evra are incremental increases only. Even the Arsenal call is debatable if you would label it as a major strengthening. Debuchy for Sagna is regression, Sanchez is excellent but that means taking one of their decent attackers out of the line-up (seems like Walcott at the moment). Now if they can replace Giroud .....

Van Gaal for Moyes. United have strengthened considerably.

This team needs Marco Reus. If not someone like him, someone who can play across the front three, and can win matches. Remy was that kind of play, but ideally we need much better, Sanchez would have been ideal. Outside of Reus though, I'm not sure who else out there fits the bill.

Mystic answered the question. Van Gaal for Moyes in itself represents major strengthening.

I think people are banking on Sturridge alot. I get this feeling he could go either way in the absence of Suarez, he could either thrive in taking the mantle from him, or frustrate the fuck out of us and himself with his own cockiness and occasional moments of selfishness (in a bad way).

I'm not trying to come down on him, but the last few months of form from him have shown that he can waver from the good to the annoying.
