He deserves his own thread. I love him. I trust him every time he's on the ball. I've said it already in the match thread but he installs confidence into the team and you just know he's not going to let us down. He can play in virtually any position and he props up all over the pitch throughout the 90 mins.

Facing his own goal - Not to worry he's got this.
50/50 tackle needed to be won - Not to worry he's got this.
Quick release of the ball to springboard a counter attack - Not to worry he's got this.

I think you get the picture. Delighted with him so far. What a signing.

Everyone seems to rate him. United fans, City fans, Chelsea fans. All unanimous that he's a great player.

It's strange just how right we've got this transfer, he's exactly what we needed, literally every attribute is perfect, and usually when we identify a player like that, we fuck it up. First and foremost, he's 100% a winner, something we badly needed more of in our squad. Further, he's hard working and industrious, yet he's still skilful and productive, exactly the kind of central midfielder we need for the way Brendan plays, and one that can be difficult to find. Also, having lost Gerrard, and having such a young squad, we badly needed a player with experience, leadership and a calm head, and he brings that to us in abundance. On the face of it he seemed like such an underwhelming signing, boring James Milner and all that, but the truth is that he's been an absolute masterstroke, he was probably our number one target this summer, quite right too.

I have to say, he's a big upgrade on the Gerrard of the last two seasons. Does a lot of things well.

He's got alot more energy, which is a big factor. He's a massive plus, but I've wanted us to sign him for years, Ryan too.

Every time there was a stop in play yesterday he was out on the touchlines next to Rodgers getting instructions and taking responsibility.

Fantastic player. Will be the signing of the season. Shame we didnt buy him when he left Newcastle and joined Villa.

Can someone do us a favour and dig up Skully's summer moans about every player we signed?

Safe to say he's got every single one wrong.

To be fair, he still might be right about ings. We've not even given him a chance yet

Yeah but Ryan is always wrong. There's no story in it. You being wrong is weird

To some maybe. A fair few on here, myself included, were delighted with the signing - though even I've been pleasantly surprised by how effective he's been right from the off. What we've got ourselves here is another Gary Mac with an extra 5 years in his locker. Brill.

Oh of course, I think most were behind his signing, although I remember one or two who weren't, but most people were meh about it. It's was viewed more as a good move, but not an exciting one.

You called origi 'an absolute swagmonster'

The difference is that Origi is 10 years younger, and we probably wont know how good he can become for a long while. If you've made up your mind already you've just proved his point.

I got you all beat on this. Rafa almost took this gem from Newcastle. I was on board then.

Not all of us. I'd have signed him like a shot. A lot of posts at the time were distinctly meh about the idea then too, and I wondered if those who trotted out that view had been watching the same player as I had.

James Milner likes Liverpool's Premier League top four chances

James Milner is convinced that Liverpool have closed the gap on the teams that finished in the top four positions in the Premier League last season and insisted he has no regrets about swapping Manchester City for Anfield.

Milner has impressed in his first three games since he left Man City to join Liverpool, with Brendan Rodgers side collecting seven points and keeping three clean sheets in their opening matches against Stoke, Bournemouth and Arsenal.

While Liverpool's performances in those matches has not been entirely convincing, Milner has been impressed by the quality of his new teammates and suggested they are capable of pushing for a top four finish.

"We will see at the end of the season, won't we. I think we are close," Milner said. "We don't want to put any targets on it, but the longer we get into this season and the more we play together, you will see us improve more and more.

"I think it is an exciting time to be at the club. There have obviously been a lot of changes on and off the field in the summer and I think it will take time to get to our best, but to start the season like we have is pleasing."

Regarding his switch to Liverpool, Milner admitted he may not have got too much game time if he had remained in Manuel Pellegrini's squad for another season.

"I have watched them on the TV, but I might have been watching them sitting on the bench if I had stayed at the club," Milner said.
"That is the decision I have made. I am delighted to have joined Liverpool and am enjoying every minute. Liverpool is the club that is used to winning and every time they step onto the field they expect to win -- that is a nice pressure to have.

"You want to play with the biggest clubs and best players. You want to be among good, experienced players and a blend of English talent and foreign players.

"Everything is there. You look down the squad list and on the bench and it is a strong balance. You need a good squad to do anything and we will definitely have that."
