The only game i remember Steve fucking Staunton playing for us as a centre back was against Leeds away. Him and Glenn Hysen (shit glenn hysen not the good one of his first season) were the centre half partnership and we won 5-4. If the game had gone on for ten more minutes we would have lost as the centre halves were all over the fucking place and couldn't handle Lee Chapman. He was bitch slapping them like they were Leslie Ash.

Leeds 4 liverpool 5
for anyone interested it was a great game but the last 20 minutes seemed like they took hours. Having said that the first half hour we were fantastic, especially barnes and rush.

Carragher
Hyypia
Agger
Henchoz
Skrtel
Matteo (I never understood why we sold him. He was rubbish for a few seasons, yet we still kept playing him. Then when he finally had a good season we sold him for a pittance)
Wright
Ruddock
Sakho
Toure (seems harsh putting him so low, as we've got more out of him than we paid)
Kyrgiakos (ditto for the Toure comment, except the expectations were even lower)
Song (not sure if he should be included as he played right back mainly....but he was garbage)
Scales
Pellegrino
Babb
Lovren

Price Adjusted list:
Carragher
Hyypia
Henchoz
Agger
Skrtel
Matteo
Toure
Kyrgiakos
Wright
Ruddock
Song
Scales
Pellegrino (although he was free, he was awful)
Babb
Sakho
Lovren

Hansen the best for me but thereafter hard to distinguish so in no particular order of merit; Smith, Yeats, Thompson, Lawrenson, Carragher and Hyypia. Some of the signings in the last 20 years aren't fit to lace their boots.

Yeah pretty much this. I don't think any of the other more modern CBs are up there with those listed.

Matteo (I never understood why we sold him. He was rubbish for a few seasons, yet we still kept playing him. Then when he finally had a good season we sold him for a pittance)

Nah, I can't agree with that at all Fugee..............Matteo was always rubbish for us and Leeds paid us £5m for him which certainly wasn't a pittance back then. Leeds fans can tell you exactly how ripped off they felt......he was as bad for them as he was for us.

Hansen
Lawrenson
Hyypia
Hughes* I wouldn't necessarily class him as an outright CB because he played midfield, right back and left back for us too.
Thompson
Carragher
Skrtel
Henchoz

Ruddock ? Really? He was hopeless. Apart from scoring that equalizer against the Mancs of course.
I fucking hate that cunt talking about his time being all a big piss up & a laugh almost as much as I hate it when someone reminds me Hodgson managed us.

Hansen

I must have been in a coma the season Dominic Mateo played well

I never really had a problem with Ruddock he was just a big stopper - he used to be a good wind up for the opposition- the Cantona collar thing was great

Thing was he *could* actually play. Some of his long passing in particular was excellent. It's just that he couldn't raise the puff or be @rsed half the time.

He played there but I always consider him a right full back...a world class one at that.
Hell yeah! I maybe remember this wrong but didn't he score a hatrick against the toon once! He was nuts!
