Sturridge and his mental frailty

How did he do when he came on?

He started pretty well, interchanging passes with Ibe and doing his stepovers. Then he got flattened, threw his arms up when the dickhead ref waved play on, barely touched the ball again.

I thought it was a pity he didn't come on when either or both of Benteke and/or Firmino were still on the pitch. I felt when he went on there wasn't much hope of him doing much on his own up there, and it became just a fitness exercise rather than anything else. But that was better than nothing. He needs quite a bit more action before he's going to be genuinely sharp and focused again.

Yeah, when he took Frimininho off I thought the next change would probs be to bring Lallana off for Sturridge so that we could see what two strikers would do and to ease him in. He was never going to make a massive impact after so long out. We can only hope that he stays healthy long enough to get back into match fitness, but given that will probably be around the Christmas period I doubt he'll make it.

I think he had to take one of them off, because both were pretty much the luxury players on the pitch, if we'd have kept both on it would have been at the expense of a bit of workrate from someone else in midfield.

Firmino had a torrid game again though so I would have liked to have seen him make way with Benteke staying on. I think it was just unfortunate that Benteke had played midweek too, Klopp had already suggested that he didn't think he could play the full game.

Yes, there was certainly logic in the decisions, I just thought it was unfortunate that they left Studge isolated as a consequence.

I actually thought it would have been great for us if the roles were reversed. Sturridge on when we were chasing a goal because of his movement , and Benteke after we had scored to hold up the ball for counter attacking.

Happy belated birthday by the way, Macca!

Apropos Carragher's comments, I don't like to hear him sharing his Liverpool insights in the media in this way. It's intriguing of course but it feels like a slight betrayal.

yes but it's going to happen more and more. Will he ever manage us?
