The Cow

Got a feeling he's this summer's Zielinski. All drummed up to join us, even wearing the kit and all but ended up elsewhere. That was pretty funny.

Only have a yr left on his contract. How concrete are all the rumored interests in him? Agent talk or genuine?

We've been linked since January. I'd be amazed if we haven't spoken to him about a contract

Don't want him. He has poor productivity for a wide player, and isn't good enough at CM. Then there are the injuries.

Maddock in the Mirror claiming we've made an official offer for him of 25M-odd.

25m for an injury prone above average player with one season left on his contract seems a bit much even in today's market.

Fucking Ox! Please god no! He might gurn like a twat at the sheer presence of Gerrard on BT Sport. He might even not get injured while holding his 'sign here' pen. He (shock horror) might even score! Lots of if's and buts but for me it a deffo NO. Sod the Cow. For me he's pure Pony.

He is a bit injury prone which is a worry BUT he has played over 30 games per season 4 times in his 6 years at Arsenal (the other 2 seasons he played 20 & 26 times) and his best season was last season in which he played 45 times (suggesting he might be coming a bit more robust).

He is the type of squad player we need. Previously we have referred to squad players as players who might play 10 or 15 league matches but are primarily useful for the League Cup and early rounds of the FA Cup. If we want to win BIG stuff we need squad players who also wouldn't look out of place in a CL semi-final if needed.

I rate him highly and think his value should be about £40m (in this crazy transfer market) but as he only has a year left on his contract and because of the uncertainties regarding injuries I'd be unhappy if we went much over £30m.

Theo Walcott I could understand as he can play several positions in a front three but the ox is mainly a right winger where we already have mane and Salah and Lallana can play right midfielder as can Henderson so we should definitely not buy oxdale.

Does anyone have a feeling that he is being evaluated as an alternative to Keita? Both of them have some resemblance physically & in their playing styling.

We've been linked with The Ox for aaaaaages.

But we usually don't get our first choices, so it's possible.

I think the idea that he our interest for him is because of his versatility is a sound one. He covers a variety of positions. Looking at Klopp's purchases, I am starting to wonder if he plans using the 3-4-3 formation much more this season. If so, buying Oxo makes more sense I guess, as he might be in the team primarily as a WB, but who can cover in the midfield and in the right forward position when called upon to do so.

We were in for Keita last year per some reports and even bid for him before he moved between the Red Bull clubs. I wouldn't be surprised if it we buy only one of Keita and Oxlade. Buying both of them would be an overkill, given our more urgent needs in other areas.

I see your point but if we are to play 3-4-3 than i think we need to buy more than 1 CB and both need to be of high quality. Till date it seems likely we are only buying one CB with Lucas and Joe Gomez (loan) moved on. Also we wouldn't have any one who would be suited to play WB on the left had side. I am discounting Salah for this role already.

But Keita is a midfield specialist of the very highest calibre and Oxo is predominantly a wide player. We have urgent need for a top class CM. Oxo has shown no signs of being one of those.

Who says Gomez is being moved on? As for Lucas, I don't believe he will ever leave. We're going to buy a left FB/WB. I've no doubt about this.

Going by recent comments Ox prefers to play in midfield than in the wide positions. Don't know the exact stats for the last season, however he did play a number of times for Arsenal as part of a midfield 2

The Ox hasn't shown any consistent form or genuine quality in any position. In fact, his most successful recent displays have been at wing-back after Wenger went to 3 CBs.

He is one of many players who have stated a preference for a more central role, despite hardly ever playing there. Fuck that. Don't want.

Agreed i would also rather have a specialist MF if we can't get Keita. I am just speculating regarding the reasons for constant links with Ox given we have already signed a wide forward and need a CB, LB & striker in terms of priority. If we do sign a decent LB this frees up Milner as our MF / Winger / backup LB utility man.

I believe a lot of prayers will be answered (not necessarily mine) and Lucas will move on this summer. This leaves us with 5 specialist CB, including both Klavan, Gomez & a new CB. Playing with 2 CB i believe these would be sufficient, however if we are to play 3 CB consistently than it could leave us short with one or 2 injuries / suspensions. Can't think of any CB in the reserve who are ready to step up to fill in occasionally.

Don't want and worried by his stated preference for CM. Why would he move here swapping one bench for another unless he's received assurances in some form ?

I'm not against this transfer, IF the price is right, as he's not a bad player. But I don't see where he fits into our team. He's not good enough for the front 3, he's not a wing back, he doesn't sit infront of the defence, and Coutinho will be sitting at the point of the midfield. A weird one if we have bid for him.

Possible, however don't know if our current squad is suited for 3-4-3 specially in wing back positions.

Which is why we might buy someone who has looked relatively handy there at the tail end of last season?
