West Ham (H) 12 August

Fabinho rumored to have picked up a knock in training and is a doubt. Hopefully he'll be fit.

The main thing here is that West Ham have a few of their dangerous players out. Their defence looks shit on paper, and hopefully it is too early in the season for them to be well drilled. I hope we go for the jugular.

Do you think we'll play him with only 20 mins of preseason footy in the tank?
Yes, it's not like he doesn't know the system or is majorly unfit from his WC efforts or hasn't trained at all. Unless Milner's 15 stitches don't prevent him from playing.

I forgot about Milner, though playing 6 isn't really his bag. Do we play Keita there perhaps, since that was predominantly his position for Leipzig?

Keita

Gini Milly

When he is fit again - it will be like a new signing ----- oh hang on - he is a new signing anyway. Fuck that - the only thing I expect now is Adam Lallana to be out for 6 months - or he plays and he will be out for 6 months. Usual shit - maybe these pre-seasons are just too hard for the type of players we have.

Loving the flexibility and squad depth we have now. You could rotate any of those three but Keita is probably the best in that position.

It's so nice having a big squad eh...

that ain't a bad side at all is it!

Klopp has played Gini as the holding midfielder in the past so he might go with that again.

I'd definitely start Gini and Milner regardless.

Yes. I think we need some continuity and familiarity going into the opener. So I'd play those two and one of Keita or Shaqiri. The former two have been in great form pre-season anyway, so thoroughly deserve it.

Hopefully Fabinho will be fit, if not then Gini can play the nr 6 with Milner and Keita as the 8's. We've at least got some options in midfield now.

It's great mate, when you consider we can easily throw in Lovren, TAA, Henderson, Shaqiri, Fabinho, Sturridge etc.

Another good thing is every player knows that they will get called upon even the players who undoubtedly will have perceived the negative vibes drifting down from the stands to them.

Moreno for example, up until he got injured last season and Robertson stepped up he was actually one of our better players pre Chrimbo...

Lovren, was clearly error prone at the start of last season but when paired with VVD stepped up to the plate and performed pretty damn well all the way through to a CL final and a WC final...

Our supposedly shit CB Lovren... Yeah... he's so shit he just played in a World cup final and had Cristiano Ronaldo in his pocket a month beforehand...

The rotation Klopp was criticised for during last season pays off in numerous ways. Mentally, every single player knows that they must be ready to be counted on if you have a teammate in your position then you need to compete and be at your best. We have really strengthened our squad and at the same time, we've approached the management of the squad really really well.

In fact, I'm feeling so stratospherically dizzily optimistic even thinking about it... I'm sure we are gonna crash and burn on Sunday.

This is a game we should dictate the tempo throughout. Hence the no 6 should be more a distributer than an anclesnapper. Gini or Keita can do the trick. Milner deserve a start here even if Shakiri must be pushing for that starting berth. I think Milner will get the nod this time.

So Klopp says no Hendo this weekend and Fabinho was sent home still feeling unwell. Milner, Keita and Gini it is then.

Fabinho just seemed to be feeling a bit unwell, the scan showed nothing regarding the knock. He'll probably at least make the bench.

I dont see Shaqiri as a midfielder, has he ever played in a central role before now?

I see your point, but he has showed a lot of energy and good attacking movement when playing that role in his first few outings. I must admit that I didn't see him as a winger for us just a few weeks ago. I think this is the kind of game he can play CM. Tough away games I would defo not put him there yet.
