UEFA announce drastic new Champions League rule changes ahead of next season - including FOURTH substitution

Sides will be permitted a fourth substitute in the knock-out phase in extra-time from the 2018/19 season

UEFA will allow players to compete for two different clubs in the same European cup competition from next season.
The governing body have also revealed a fourth substitute will be allowed in extra time of knockout ties and that 12 substitutes can be named in the finals.

Most Champions League group games will now kick off at 8pm, though each group-phase round will have four earlier matches played at 5.55pm UK time.
As it stands, January signings are not permitted to play for a second club in the Champions League or Europa League if they have already featured in that competition. It means Arsenal have not been allowed to field former Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in their run to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Barcelona too were affected, as they were unable to field Philippe Coutinho for their Champions League knockout games after he played earlier in the competition for Liverpool.

Liverpool fans to miss out on Champions League tickets as UEFA take additional seats for Manchester City clash

Alexis Sanchez was allowed, though, to play for Manchester United in the Champions League last-16 having turned out for Arsenal in the Europa League's group stage.
As it stands, all Champions League games kick off at 7.45pm, although UEFA can make exceptions to this rule.

Staggered kick-off times will be introduced as standard next season. In the group stage, there will be two matches played on the Tuesday, and two on the Wednesday, kicking off at 5:55pm.
All fixtures on the last matchday will be played simultaneously, though.
The rest of the games, including all the knockout ties, will kick off at 8pm.
Europa League matches, from the group stage until the last 16, will kick off at 5.55pm and 8pm. The competition's quarter-finals, semis and final will all kick off at 8pm

Champions League rule changes for 2018/19 season

Fourth substitute permitted in knock-out stages in extra-time

23 players, rather than usual 18, will be permitted for the match sheet in the UEFA Champions League final, UEFA Europa League final and UEFA Super Cup

New kick-off times in Champions League: 20:00 GMT - with two games every Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 17:55 GMT.

Teams who have won the UEFA Europa League (or UEFA Cup) three consecutive times or at least five times will be permitted to wear a special multiple-winner badge on the shirt sleeve. Sevilla are the only side eligible for next season.

State of this, can tell uefa are pissed 2 big names like coutinho and aubamayang aren't playing in the crucial part

Let's reward the likes of city too who probably have 4 massively expensive subs on the bench where a lot of teams would be left with kids to choose from after their first 3 subs.
