Jesse Lingard - Birmingham City (1 month youth loan)

photo-1101-1063601_478x359.jpg

[article=http://www.bcfc.com/news/article/20130919-red-devil-recruited-1063652.aspx#lKgHd1F4uUQA0VcJ.99 ]Blues have agreed a deal with Manchester United to sign starlet Jesse Lingard on a one-month youth loan.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder is currently one of the brightest stars in the Red Devils’ youth ranks having caught the headlines during the Barclays Premier League champions’ 2013 pre-season tour with a healthy goal tally.

The Warrington-born star scored the first goal of the David Moyes era against the A-League All Stars in Sydney and went on to earn his first England U21s cap during the 6-0 victory over Scotland U21s last month.

Versatile Lingard, who can play on either flank or in a central role, has been one of United’s stand-out performers at U21s level having lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2011.

The former England U17 international made the bench for United in the League Cup last season and spent two months on loan at Leicester City.

Lingard’s stay at St. Andrew’s will take him up to and including Sunday 20 October inclusive of the Sky Bet Championship trip to Leeds United and he has been allocated squad number nine.

“I’ve watched him many times and I know all about him,” said Clark. “I also spoke to David Moyes and his staff on numerous occasions about him so he will start the game on Saturday.

“He’s an extremely talented young footballer who can play in various positions across the front line and can make and score goals which is obviously an area we need to improve on.”

Clark had worked on the deal for some time but he admitted that right up until yesterday he still wasn’t 100 per cent certain he would be able to add the 20-year-old Old Trafford hot prospect to his squad.

“It took a lot of patience,” he said. “We weren’t the only club in for him, so we thank David Moyes and Manchester United for allowing him to come to us. He’s initially here for a month but we hope it’s longer.

“I'm glad to get it over the line. I was beginning to think that maybe he might go somewhere else in this division, but when I got the news yesterday it gave us a big lift after our disappointing result on Tuesday. I think the fans will be excited by him.”[/article]

Jack Butland - Barnsley (loan)

[article=http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/article/butland-joins-barnsley-1078397.aspx#yi6OUELSssof7kV8.99]Barnsley have completed the signature of England international goalkeeper on an emergency 93-day loan from Stoke City.

Bristol-born Butland started out with Birmingham City, and impressed out on loan with Cheltenham Town before taking over the number one spot at his parent club Blues.

Such was his form at St Andrew’s, Stoke City paid out a reported £3.5million for his services in January this year and then allowing the ‘keeper to head back on loan to Birmingham.

The 20-year-old, who made his senior England debut against Italy last year, will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s match at Leicester with current number one Luke Steele out with a back injury.[/article]

Shane Duffy - Yeovil (1 month loan)

[article=http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2013/09/26/duffy-joins-yeovil-on-loan]Shane Duffy has joined Yeovil Town on a month's loan.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international's move to the Championship club has been completed in time for him to make his debut for The Glovers in Saturday's trip to Bolton.

The 21-year-old central defender from Derry, who has enjoyed previous loan spells at Burnley and Scunthorpe United, will join up with Gary Johnson's Championship newcomers on an initial one month loan.

However, the Blues have also negotiated an option to extend the loan if the switch proves beneficial for both the player and Yeovil.

Duffy has made eight first team appearances for Everton but has not figured in the Blues' line-up since February, when he was used as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with Oldham at Boundary Park in the FA Cup fifth round.[/article]

Christ. I'm surprised Shane Duffy isn't a bare knuckle gypsy boxer. That's the first time I've seen his face.

Bert van Marwijk - Hamburg SV (Head Coach)

[article=http://www.hsv.de/en/season/meldungen/bundesliga/september-2013/bert-van-marwijk-the-new-hsv-head-coach/]HSV have appointed Bert van Marwijk (61) as their new head coach. The former Netherlands national team coach has put pen to paper on a deal which expires on June 30th 2015: "We are delighted to secure the services of Bert van Marwijk for HSV. He has a wealth of experience and has proved his worth on many occasions during his career", said sporting director Oliver Kreuzer.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss van Marwijk has brought with him 43 year old compatriot Roel Coumans, who until now had been at Dutch second division outfit Fortuna Sittard. Van Marwijk will hold his first training session on Wednesday and will be officially presented to the media on the same day.[/article]

[article=http://www.hsv.de/en/season/meldungen/bundesliga/september-2013/bert-van-marwijk-we-must-be-realistic/]New HSV coach Bert van Marwijk was officially presented to the media at a press conference held at the Imtech arena in Hamburg on Wednesday. The Dutchman revealed that he had a good feeling about accepting the task from the off.

It was plain to see how much new HSV coach Bert van Marwijk was relishing the new challenge at HSv, as he was officially introduced to the media in Hamburg on Wednesday (25.09.13). The Dutchman revealed that he didn't hesitate when the Rothosen came knocking, and also told the press what he plans to work on over coming weeks.

Bert Van Marwijk on...

…interim coach Rodolfo Cardoso: He did a good job in preparing the team for the cup game against Fürth. I'm sure we will be chatting soon. He has been a the club for a long time and I'm sure he will be able to give me some useful pointers.

…his short term goals at HSV: We must be realistic. We are currently in 16th place, have the worst defensive record and have to leave that region of the table as soon as possible. The situation is bad. We have to train, train and train some more to get more out of the players. The team is currently not playing to its full potential. Our first game together is away to Frankfurt on Saturday. It is a very very important match.

…his decision to join HSV: I am somebody who can sense whether or not the person facing me likes me. I need a good feeling in such situations and that was certainly the case with HSV. Apart from that the Bundesliga is in my opinion the top European league and I like it a lot.

…how he deals with pressure: I am not the kind of guy who takes pressure off people. Everyone needs pressure and players have to feel it too. But the pressure must be realistic. We need to immediately gain stability and leave the nether regions of the Bundesliga table

…his time as Holland coach: I have had a different rhythm in my life over recent years. But during that time I realised that I sorely missed the day to day involvement in training. It was a feeling I often had.

…his tactical system: I like my teams to play attacking football and prefer a 4-3-3 system. But that depends on the qualities of the players at your disposal. What is crucial is that we defend together and that we become more organised for instance when we switch from defence to attack. We have plenty of room for improvement there.

…his Co. trainer Roel Coumans: I have known Roel for a very long time. He has many talents. He has worked as Co. trainer, fitness coach, video analyst and is also a good physiotherapist. Roel is young, ambitious and brings lots of energy to the job.

…Rafael van der Vaart: I have a good relationship with him and have known him and what he is capable of for a long time. He alone cannot solve our problems.

…Hamburg: The lovely town does not interest me. I want to achieve something here.[/article]

I can see Kuyt going to Hamburg after Fener in one last move. Bert van Marwijk is a big fan of his.

Steve McClaren - Derby (Head Coach)

manager-4x3129-1087646_478x359.jpg

[article=http://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/article/derby-confirm-mcclaren-appointment-1087658.aspx#HCo4mRQBS1Q7VFwm.99]Derby County is this evening delighted to announce the appointment of former England manager Steve McClaren as its new Head Coach.

McClaren, 52, has signed a two-and-half-year deal at Pride Park Stadium and will officially take up his new role at the club on Wednesday, after leaving his position on the coaching staff at Sky Bet Championship leaders Queens Park Rangers.

He will watch on from the stands for Derby’s home game with Ipswich Town on Tuesday evening and will officially take charge of his first match on Saturday (5th October), when the Rams take on Leeds United at Pride Park.

A former player with the Rams between 1985 and 1988 and a Second Division title-winner, McClaren also tasted success as Jim Smith’s assistant during the Rams’ promotion campaign to the top flight in the 1995/96 season.

He will be joined by two other ex-Derby players on what will be a new-look coaching set-up, with Paul Simpson (First-Team Coach) and Eric Steele (Goalkeeping Coach) also agreeing to return to the club.

Following the departure of Nigel Clough at the weekend, the Rams have continued their thorough review of the football operations at the club and as a result have opted to appoint McClaren as Head Coach, with a view to also appointing a Technical Director in the near future.

President and Chief Executive Sam Rush said: “We are thrilled to announce Steve McClaren as our new Head Coach as well as Paul Simpson and Eric Steele in their respective roles.

“When we announced the departure of Nigel Clough it was stated that we were conducting a comprehensive review of the football structure, and we believe this is a major step forward in that regard.

“Our goal is to have Derby County competing for a play-off place and beyond, and we feel with Steve and his team at the helm we have a great opportunity to do so.

“Steve is a highly qualified coach with all the skill-sets required to be a success here at Pride Park.

“He also has a network of contacts both on a European and global scale, and has also proved in the past that he can identify talent and develop it on the training ground, especially younger players, which is where our Academy comes into play and his working relationship with Darren Wassall is critical to our on-going success.

“It is also important that Steve, Paul and Eric know what it means to play for Derby County and they have been at the club during the good times.

“Steve was a driving force behind the club’s promotion under Jim Smith in the 1990s and you only have to look at his CV to discover what a hugely talented coach he is.”

He added: “We are very much looking forward to letting Steve get on with the job in hand and helping Derby County move in the right direction.”

As a player McClaren, a midfielder by trade, turned out for Hull City, Derby, Lincoln City, Bristol City and Oxford United before learning the coaching ropes at both Oxford and Derby, prior to joining Manchester United, where he worked alongside Sir Alex Ferguson to help the Reds win a historic treble in the 1998/99 campaign.

After moving into management in 2001/02 at Middlesbrough, McClaren guided Boro to League Cup glory in 2003/04, and to the UEFA Cup Final in the 2005/06 campaign. He then replaced Sven Goran Eriksson as England manager in 2006, after previously holding a coaching role with the national team.

After leaving his post as Three Lions boss in 2007, he opted to broaden his coaching horizons by taking charge of Dutch Premier League side FC Twente, with whom he won the league with for the first time in their history during the 2009/10 campaign.

He went on to manage Wolfsburg during the 2010/11 season in Germany, where he gained Champions League experience as a manager, before returning to England for a very brief spell as manager of Nottingham Forest in 2011.

McClaren returned to Twente in early 2012 for 13 months prior to making a return to the game this season when Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp secured his services as First-Team Coach.

Meanwhile Simpson, who made over 800 career appearances and was with Derby between 1992 and 1997, making over 200 appearances and scoring 57 goals, has managerial experience from spells at Rochdale, Carlisle United, Preston North End, Shrewsbury Town, Stockport County and Northwich Victoria.

Steele, who recently left his role as Manchester United’s goalkeeping coach, held a similar position at Derby between 1997 and 2001, and has served a number of other clubs in his specialist role including Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers.

He was a player with the Rams between 1984 and 1987 and was part of the Division Three and Division Two promotion-winning sides under Arthur Cox.

Derby County will hold a press conference at Pride Park Stadium at 9am on Tuesday 1st October 2013 where McClaren will speak to the media for the first time.[/article]

Gus Poyet - Sunderland (Head Coach)

guisaol.jpg

[article=http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2013/october/new-head-coach]Sunderland AFC has today announced the appointment of Gustavo Poyet as head coach.

The 45 year-old has agreed a two year contract at the Stadium of Light and will take charge of the Black Cats with immediate effect.

The Uruguayan began his coaching career in England in 2006 at Swindon Town, before joining Leeds United as assistant manager. After a year at Elland Road, Poyet returned to his former club Tottenham Hotspur as First Team Coach, before becoming Assistant Manager to Juande Ramos.

In 2009 he was appointed as manager at Brighton and Hove Albion. During his tenure on the south coast, he led the club to promotion to the Championship and reached the play-off semi-finals. At the end of the 2010-11 season Poyet was awarded the title of LMA League One Manager of the Year.

Speaking about the appointment, Sunderland AFC Chairman, Ellis Short, said: “We analysed a wide range of candidates and believe that Gus's track record, experience, commitment and passion make him the right man to take us forward."

“We welcome him to Sunderland.”

Poyet first arrived in English football as a player with Chelsea in 1997 where he went on to make 105 appearances, scoring 36 goals for the Blues. He then moved to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in 2001, where he spent three years as a player. He was capped 26 times for his country.

Poyet will be joined at the Stadium of Light by his backroom staff Mauricio Taricco and Charlie Oatway.[/article]

[article=http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2013/october/gus-excited-by-opportunity]New SAFC head coach Gus Poyet can’t wait to get started.

The 45 year-old signed a two-year deal with the Black Cats on Monday morning and wasted no time in addressing matters.

“It’s a big big challenge,” the former Leeds United and Brighton coach conceded. “However, it’s a challenge I’m really excited about.

“I never thought I would get an opportunity to manage in the Barclays Premier League but here I am and it’s now up to me to prove that the right man has been chosen.

“I’m absolutely delighted.”

The Uruguayan is tasked with taking charge of a team that has picked up one point in their first seven league games and two Capital One Cup victories at the Stadium of Light.

“I need to address the problems quickly, we - the team - need to get better and pick up points – the sooner we get that first league win the better.

“It’s my job to have very good communication with the players and for them to understand the way we need them to play football. There has to be good understanding and trust.

“We need to commit as a group and all work together – players staff and fans, we need to be strong together.”[/article]

Brøndby IF have signed former Chelsea and Sporting Lisbon defender Khalid Boulahrouz on a 1-year-long contract.

At "only" 31-years-old this is probably one of the biggest names ever to enter the Danish Superleague, at least when you are not counting aging Danes, despite him being quite poor at Chelsea.

1995395_608_608_0_51_1000_562_2.jpg

Interesting. Weren't Brondby in some kind of financial trouble recently? All settled?

They were indeed and almost got relegated last Season as well. A new set of owners, a new strategy, a new manager (Thomas Frank whom worked with Fischer and Højbjerg at Int. U17 and U19 levels and seems very talented) and lots of new players as well as youngsters with new contracts have completely turned the ship around within a few months.

More than £25M of capital have been injected in to the club over the past few months as well, and they have avoided all talks of bankruptcy etc. that lingered in the shades during Spring.

Good for Danish football overall as it really is a corner-stone - alongside FC København - in the Danish Superliga and a great place for talents - like Agger - to begin their career.

Pau Morer - Swansea

morer-1-4x358-1106427_478x359.jpg

[article=http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/pau-morer-signs-1106685.aspx?#OT7Tz23vu7XwsMpK.99]Pau Morer says he can’t wait to start his Swansea City career after he signed his first professional deal with the club.

The Spanish midfielder has been training with the Under-21s squad since July but was unable to sign professionally until his 18th birthday.

And Morer, who previously played for Catalan youth side CF Damm – a former club of ex-Swan Andrea Orlandi – said he couldn’t wait to start playing for Kristian O’Leary’s young Swans.

“I am very happy,” said the 18-year-old. “I arrived here in July but, until now, I couldn’t sign.

“I have been training with the Under-21s, but I am looking forward to playing in the games and helping the team.

"The next game is against Crystal Palace on October 21, so I am really excited for that.”

Having already trained with the Swans for several months, Morer has had the opportunity to see how the first-team players operate on a daily basis.

With that experience in mind, he says compatriot Alejandro Pozuelo is a player he looks up to.

“I really like Pozuelo,” he explained. “I think we play in a similar way.

“He makes everything look so easy, and he always chooses the right option. When he has to dribble, he dribbles; when he has to pass, he passes.

“I am a player who likes to keep the ball and play for my teammates, and I like to defend as well as attack.”

Morer, who has also spent time with the Barcelona and Espanyol youth ranks, has now set his focus on working hard for the Under-21 team, hoping that the work will pay off in the future.

He added: “For now, I just want to help my Under-21 teammates.

“Looking forward, with a lot of hard work, I hope I can push for the first-team.” [/article]

Pascal Chimbonda - Carlisle United (free transfer)

chimbonda43104-1119361_478x359.jpg

[article=http://www.carlisleunited.co.uk/news/article/chimbondasigns18october13-1119847.aspx#XxxBbdFjq3UE2sAb.99]Carlisle United have today signed former French international defender Pascal Chimbonda on a three-month deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until 18 January 2014.

Chimbonda, 34, started his career with Le Havre in France and made the move to Bastia in 2003 having made over 100 appearances with his first club.

He came to England in 2005, when he signed for Wigan, and had since played for Spurs, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Doncaster Rovers.

The experienced central defender teamed up with the Cumbrians at the beginning of this week and impressed manager Graham Kavanagh with his attitude and determination.

I obviously played with him at Wigan and Sunderland so I know what he's capable of,” Kavanagh said. “I've seen a real positive change in him over the last week. He’s come here and been a breath of fresh air.

“He's been excellent in training this week in terms of his energy levels and he just wants to play football.”

"He's been playing in non-league football to keep himself fit, not because that's the level he should be playing at,” he continued. “I spoke to him on Sunday and he flew over from Paris on Monday morning.

“We did some testing on Tuesday and I was actually surprised with his levels of fitness. It will take him a few games to get his match fitness back fully but I think he's got the ability.”

We’ll have more from Graham Kavanagh and Pascal Chimbonda later today.

This deal remains subject to FA and Football League clearance.

Chimbonda will wear squad number 39.[/article]

Nigel Clough - Sheffield United (Manager)

article-2473094-18EDFC8C00000578-779_634x413.jpg

[article= http://www.sufc.co.uk/news/article/20131023-nigel-clough-appointed-1130477.aspx#jIuoTZIR5ksiiXdb.99]Nigel Clough is the new manager of Sheffield United Football Club.

Clough, 47, takes over with immediate effect and, following a detailed briefing from interim manager Chris Morgan, will be in charge of team affairs for Saturday's home game against Crewe.

United's co-chairman, Kevin McCabe, commented: "Nigel has a tremendous pedigree in the game. He brings undoubted experience and can provide stability, energy and confidence to the playing side drawing on his 11 years at Burton Albion followed by over four and a half years with Derby County in the Championship."

Co-chairman Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud added: "Nigel was the clear, first choice of the board. He brings an approach to the game that is well suited to what we are trying to achieve at Sheffield United. Nigel has enjoyed managerial success in the game. He knows how to inspire first team players to give their all and has a proven track record of making an academy a key ingredient to the club's success. We count ourselves lucky to have Nigel aboard."

Capped 14 times by England as a player, Clough represented Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Manchester City with distinction before cutting his teeth in management with Burton Albion, guiding the Brewers into the Football League. He took over at Derby County in January 2009, helping them escape relegation in his first season, whilst in the last two campaigns he has improved the final league position of the Rams.

Both Mr McCabe and Prince Abdullah acknowledged the role of Chris Morgan as interim manager describing his contributions as "first class" and providing a solid base from which Nigel Clough can begin his management era at Bramall Lane.

Prince Abdullah added: "Chris Morgan embodies what it means to be a Blade. Chris has a can-do attitude, a fighting spirit, and a gritty resolve. Add to this that he is a fierce competitor and a true gentleman, and you begin to get the picture. During these last three matches, Chris awoke in our lads a belief. That's a foundation we can build on."

Ex-skipper Chris Morgan, who will continue his responsibilities for the club's U21s, will remain as part of the coaching team being assembled by Nigel Clough, which will feature Gary Crosby and Andy Garner, part of his coaching team at Derby and previously Burton. Nigel's brother, Simon, is joining United's scouting structure.[/article]
