David Moyes: Sharing a ground with Liverpool FC would be a good move

DAVID MOYES believes a shared stadium with Liverpool FC ‘makes sense’ – but admits the Reds are unlikely to go for the idea.

The Everton manager says a joint ground in Stanley Park would be of major benefit to not just both clubs but also to the surrounding communities.

Moyes admits the Blues are sure to be more in favour of such a move than Liverpool given the Goodison club’s need to generate funds.

Brining European football back to the club remains a high priority for the Everton boss but he knows breaking into the top six positions in the Premier League increasingly comes at a cost in the modern era.

A new – and shared – ground could help the Blues find the cash to attract better players but with Liverpool’s American owners, Fenway Sports Group, hinting at a redevelopment of Anfield as well as having drawn up plans for a new build away from L4, the idea of a joint stadium looks some distance off.

“We know we could do with some more cash and we would like a new stadium but we have an awful lot of things going for us,” Moyes said.

“I think Everton probably need a new stadium more than Liverpool but it is not something we have in our culture because we don’t share grounds.

“It does make sense, we could really redevelop the whole area around Stanley Park.

“For us it is definitely worth doing.

“We’d take it but I don’t think Liverpool would probably want us or need us and from that point of view I think that is where it will end up.”

Despite strong links with the vacant manager’s position at Tottenham Hotspur, Moyes has reiterated there has been no contact from White Hart Lane and that he planning for Everton’s opening game of the season at home to Manchester United.

Andre Villas-Boas and Laurent Blanc have emerged as front runners for the Spurs vacancy in recent days though Moyes is still thought to be in the running.

Out in Poland and Ukraine on media work for the European Championships, Moyes said: “All I can say is there has been no contact from Spurs.

“There has been no contact and that is how it is.

"I’m the Everton manager.

“I’m planning, I’m out here (in Poland) having a look at players, talking to my own players and trying to get on with being manager of Everton.

“Behind the scenes me and Bill (Kenwright, chairman) are trying to get things moving along.”

Our American custodians don't have the cash to build the stadium so why not share one with our not so noisy neighbors.

I think it makes complete sense (runs for cover).

It does for Everton but absolutely NOT for us. As others have said, the blueslime don't have a pot to piss in (other than the fact that Goodison's one big pisspot as it is) so we'd be giving them a free leg up. Nor would it end there. If they don't have money, there's a real risk they're not going to be able to keep up their end of the running costs, so we'd have to step in and bail them out - again - because we wouldn't be able to allow the place to get run down. Sorry but "complete sense" my @rse.

So, you won't support the team if you don't like the manager but you will be open to sharing a stadium with a bunch of mongs ?

Good to know.

Dude, if you are going to take the piss and try and own someone, get it right. I won't support the club if Roberto Martinez or Roy are appointed. But, I do like the idea of halving our stadium costs, leaving more money for transfers and building the team, rather than having a new stadium empty every second week, and a ton of dodgy debt. It makes complete sense if the other club can hold up their end of the bargain. I know nowt about Evertons financials. If they are that poor, then of course, it's not a runner.

Oh, ok, silly me.

Sooooooooooooooo, what happens if Martinez is the manager and we decide to go the ground-share route ?

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ?

I want to ask you to stop trolling but how do you stop loving a team because they appoint a manager you dont like. So go ahead.

No worries, I can easily explain. you have Roy as manager, then Kenny, and then they appoint a manager who;s experience is with relegation, and you get fed up with waiting for another corner. You never really move on, but you stop watching. But I digress. COME ON BRENDAN!

I get themns point

Ground share is selling our soul just as much as naming rights, so for me you should stop supporting a club because they've lost their soul

You should not stop supporting a club because of 1 appointment.

Exactly.

We could change our name and move the wirral and id still love us

Its in my heart and that won't change

To me that says you chose to be a Liverpool supporter, you weren't born one. We all get fed up when things aren't going right but you seem to want to pick and choose when it's ok to support us.

I think you have to know someone a wee bit better to make that assumption your lordship.
