Have any of the haters been converted yet?

He was ace today.

To be fair Enrique got similar treatment and he's been MOTM in both our matches so far?

Not a bad way to spend £20m after all?

Still early days but both have been very good. The most negative on here havent said a word so they must be doing something right.

If they continue in this vein id like to see what ryan has to say. He was the most vocal against both of them

I aint doubted this kid, thought he was a great player at borough & villa and he'll be even better under kenny and be more of a regular for england..

I keep saying (so will again)...Our left side is going to be the envy of the Premiership.

To be fair, Kelly is a monster on the right and will only get better, if we had a genuine shit hot player on the right, I think we'd be set.

If Dirky hits form and Kelly, enrique and Downing maintain their form then we are sett-tt-t-t-t-t-t!

Agreed Skully. Even in tight spots his retains his composure. It's also good that he's comfortable on both feet so (unlike Babel cutting in from the left every single time) he's not too predictable.

An impressive start. More of the same please.

i came round to the idea of signing him before it happened, but i found his fee to be pretty crazy, and a big reason for that is him being 27. so if he's still doing well in 5 years then i'll consider it a good deal. as it is, i think we could've got someone just as good and much younger for about half the price.

and i'm not sure if he was exactly spectacular today anyway. for example, i'm still not sure he's quick or skillful enough to consistently go past players.

Downing has been sensational and has taken me by surprise. It's like he's come out of his shell in coming to us

does it annoy anyone else that we finally sign a LW and play him on the right? Kuyt was lining up on the left today, whats all that about?

Who?

I didn't think he was very good today. I thought he had a better game last week.

His movement today was poor and he drifted in and out of the game, his final ball was admittedly sent into good areas but I wish he'd check to see if any of our players are at the other end first.

he has been ok since he came, but I am surprised by the reaction of some, from the sounds of it people seem to think we have signed someone who over two games has bamboozled opposition defences, scored goals, and created numerous assists. Its early days, I think he will be effective, but I cant seem him setting the world of footbal alight.

He's Albert Riera basically.

Like shite is he.

I know he hasn't started as well as Reira but I think with time you'll come to see him as just as valuable a squad player as Riera was.

Yeah, I didn't think he was outstanding either. He was decent - good touch and some good passes.
I thought that you didn't like Reira Gene?
You certainly weren't particularly complimentary of his early contributions if I recall correctly.

So you can see the similarities too then Count?

Don't you recall the same sheep creaming themselves about Riera after 2 games? He was a smart player, with a good left foot who gave us balance, and I think that's what Downing will be. I'm glad we bought him but the praise he's getting right now is just the usual horseshit.

Think you are well out of the dip. He wouldn't have been my first choice but I didn't bleat about him when we won the auction. Since then he's been a wolf in sheep's clothing. He has become the flock leader, taking control of midfield and now everything goes straight through him. From here on in it's all sauce. There, I've baared my soul and the wool has truly been lifted from my eyes.
I actually quite liked what Reira brought to the team in his first season and as you say was an intellegent player, technically very good and gave us good balance.
I think I said somewhere before Downing signed for us that he was an upgrade on what Reira gave the team and I am perfectly happy with that contribution.

It is understandable for people, who may have been a little nervous of what the likes of Downing and Enrique would bring to the team, would be maybe a bit too gushing in their praise after a couple of very decent performances from them both.

Downing will be in our top 3 players of the year this year. I don't recall Albert getting that far.

Ewe certainly ram the point home in that post. Downing's been mint for us so far. At this rate it'll be a long time before he gets the chop.

I thought Downing nothing better than average so have a specialist average left winger is better than no winger at all. However, against Valencia, Sunderland and the Gooners he has changed my mind.

The lad has some pace and puts in a great cross. He is gonna light Liverpool up. I'm excited by him.

I think he's a good signing but I found myself getting very frustrated whenever we were attacking and a player would look left to continue the move down the wing to find no one there as Kuyt, Downing and Henderson would all be in the centre. I think it he holds his position a bit more then he really will have transformed our attack but for now I don't like how much he leaves the left flank
