Glen Johnson faces the agony of being out of the rest of England’s World Cup qualifiers – including any play-off, writes Alan Nixon of the Sunday People.
Liverpool fear their raiding right-back will be sidelined for around 10 weeks with the knee ligament injury he suffered against Manchester United last week.
Johnson’s bravery in a crunching tackle with Patrice Evra meant he missed the Moldova and Ukraine double header for England.

He was seen leaving Anfield on crutches after the United game and was wearing a medical boot.

The timescale means Johnson will miss the last two Group H games and could struggle to be fit if the Three Lions are forced into a play-off.

Johnson’s loss is also a blow for Brendan Rodgers who has had to stop England Under-21 skipper Andre Wisdom going out on loan. Wigan, Bolton and Blackburn were all keen to take the youngster, but now he has to stay at Anfield.

Kop chief Rodgers will be reshaping his defence shortly as new French defender Mamadou Sakho is tipped for a quick start, possibly at left-back.

Gutted missing these 2 big games for England. Fighting to get back soon for Club and Country

Who's gonna replace him?
Wisdom, Kelly or maybe even Ilori?

The safe bet is Wisdom.

Illori should get a go, or perhaps McLaughlin

Will he be able to cope with Routledge and Ben Davies who seems to be on form?

Might have Henderson on the right for this one. Right midfield.

Knee ligament injury? Isn't he out with a high ankle sprain?

Don't forget which medical team we are talking about here. You should just be grateful if the poor bastard's treatment doesn't end up with an amputation.

When he went off, I was pretty sure he'd done his cruciates. So the report is probably accurate.

Once Kelly proves his fitness, he'll probably start, but that's some weeks later. Is McLaughlin anywhere ready for the first team?

Our medical team is very good and hopefully he's back earlier than that.
We released a statement on the offal that said he had a high ankle sprain though, so the knee ligament injury sounds strange.

6 days ago the statement said further test would be done in a week to check the ankles stability.

His ankle was so swollen it took three days before the swelling had gone down enough to do a scan. So it's a very low knee ligament injury.

Wisdom hasn't been very good this season, although he was ok against man u. Is Kelly match fit?

Wisdom looks out of his depth there, he's all over the place. Hopefully Illori can step in, or we can promote McLaughlin. Kelly is perma-crocked and is pretty suspect anyway.

Kelly isn't ready, he's looked worryingly out of sorts in the reserves. Wisdom is fine but McLaughlin deserves serious consideration.

He should have got a game instead of Spearing vs Olympoikos. It was pointless playing Spearing vs them when everyone knew he would be leaving this summer.
It will be interesting to see if McLaughlin is actually anywhere near the squad now. He is a far better attacking right back than wisdom. But he has looked suspect 1 v 1 defensively. I presume this and maybe wisdom's physicality is why wisdom was promoted ahead of him for the RB position last season.

Yes. McLaughlin really excites me, it's like he's maturing at about three times the speed that the others are doing.
